Correct but if they can give us the option then I would take it. All these old diesels definitely seem suited to NTP. We could pretend they are Rail Tours etc ;-)
The problem is that they currently don’t have a way to have the train available for the player without it showing up as AI as well. If there was a way give the player the option to use any train, but not have it show up as AI unless it’s realistic then the 52 could work on any UK route.
This isn't what I have read into what Matt has said on the issue. If they added a railtour service in as a new layer and didn't put in any substitution possibilities then the ONLY consist for that service would be the 52 either as player or AI, but only that one service. The problem then comes in what use this makes the unit outside of WSR generally (where presumably the layer which has 47/33 and now 52 CAN be substituted for any of those three)
I’m specifically referring to the substitution. The service layering is something different. So like if the the player could use the 52 in place of the 45 or 47 on NTP, but without it showing up as AI.
I am going to point to the "how does this work internally" section of https://live.dovetailgames.com/live...3.1547619763.1555252922-1351557471.1546416236 "Substitution allows you to choose different locomotives to run services yourself via the loco selection screen in Service Mode. It also allows the other trains you see driving around to use different locomotives as well." So this relates directly to service mode as well as scenario mode "Let’s take an example. Our formation has 1 freight locomotive hauling 2000 tons. It’s set up so that it accepts substitution by another German Freight locomotive that has a minimum tractive effort of 5000 kW. When we run the sim next, the system will identify that this can accept substitution, " So if you setup a railtour and DIDN'T setup a substitution that should mean that you will always see that particular service run by the consist stated rather than offering a sub. I could be wrong of course but that's how I read it
That’s was the whole point of my original post. Let's say someone wants to use the 52 instead of the 45 on NTP for a service. So the player could select the 52 and not have the 52 show up as AI. But that system is not implemented that way so that currently can’t work. Also the locomotive has to be able to haul what the consist is whether it be freight or passenger so that’s a factor as well. A quick drive mode like in TS1 would solve all this really
I was responding to the point of In that case you could add in a few services marked as railtour layer with no substitution allowed
Quick drive would be great. I also think that all this is in their best interests. I think people would be more inclined to buy these locos knowing they can be used on multiple routes they already own.
I would certainly buy locomotives if they were used on multiple routes. I will not hoeehow be buying any locomotives for a route that I already have.
the 52 could only sub in with stock that its suited to? If it was given a slot or 2 on GWE or NTP. It could only pull the retro stock. Not a 166 or hst set for example?
There must be some way. The 47 is on WSR and NTP. The class 33 substitutes for the 47 on WSR does it not? Can it not substitute for the 47 on NTP also? Or is it a different 47? (I know inside the cab is different) I was able to get the 'do 470 miles in the class 47' trophy using both WSR and NTP. Doing it just on WSR would have taken years lol
If this is an issue with service mode, that will take time to resolve. Id be hoping for something else. Scenarios could be created, couldnt they?
