This is a proposal to remake the iconic but dated GWE route but now more up to date. I see a lot of people ask DTG if they would ever extend the route but countless times they have said that it's too old and they'd be better off remaking it, so here it is. Route length: 76.39 miles Stations: 22 Major calling points: London Paddington, Slough, Maidenhead, Reading, Didcot and Swindon Trains: Class 800, 802, 387/1, 166/165, 66 Future stock: Class 345 TFL Rail, Class 387 Heathrow Express Interesting points: Use of ATP, HS2 construction at Old Oak Common, Wharncliffe Viaduct & Thames Bridge, (designed by I K Brunel), Stations between London & Reading operated by TFL rail Potential Extensions: Greenford, Heathrow, Windsor, Marlow, Henley-on-Thames branches and Oxford. You could be more flexible with how up-to-date this should be. To give it more variety you could replace the TFL Heathrow services with Heathrow Connect class 360s and the Heathrow Express 387s with class 332s so there's less Electrostar activity (I prefer this option)
I have been thinking to myself that we are in desperate need of a modernised and longer GWML and this seems like the perfect length for it, excellent suggest
Like the Southeastern high speed and the ECML and in TSW5 or TSW6 we could get the WCML and a better GWML like yours. Now we got the Flying Scotsman with the ECML we could get one for your GWML like a king or a castle
Plenty of opportunity to have an earlier era, the only problem being the rolling stock (and DTG's unwillingness to do anything more in this area of the country)
If GWR say no to renewal of the licence, perhaps redo the line to reach Swindon and include the Thames Valley freight and passenger branch lines, also in the 1980s or 90s era when the rolling stock variety was vastly more impressive than it is today. By comparison, there were probably upwards of 15 different classes that could regularly be seen in the area during that era as opposed to the 4 or 5 types today.
I don’t see DTG revisiting GWE full stop, but if they did as I’ve said before the late 80’s or early 90’s would provide a great variety of motive power though IMHO early 1970’s when the diesel hydraulics and Blue Pullman units were kicking around would be even better.
Yes OldVern. This era was awesome. Blue Pullman sets would be fantastic additions to TSW as we could run them on a GW route and MML provided that both variants are created simultaneously. Along with these and the hydraulics, we need the correct generation 1 dmus such as classes 117,121,120,123 and 128.
Amazing! If we ever got the GWR route remake/extended then it would be your suggestion I would vote for.
This is such a good suggestion. Albeit I would love it to run all the way to Bristol, but yea I am 100% with this suggestion coming to TSW.
I would love a new GWE because the one in game is a bit boring now and your suggestion can fix this problem and also they can extend this route in future. I probably will run an express in a Steam Engine from London to Bristol
