Map View! How To Zoom Out Further To View An Entire Route?

Discussion in 'General Discussion' started by cityrail-rulez, Oct 14, 2023.

  1. Is there any way to zoom out further to view an entire route map? Exceeding it's zoom out limits! I really want to take a better screenshot of my route map 'it's huge' it's the NSW Southern Main Railway from Sydney to Albury, including some suburban lines in Sydney and the Canberra line.

Before anyone ask, no this route is private and currently undecided for distribution. It's going to be over 8 hours plus driving the entire route.. I just want to take some screenshots for backup purposes of the entire map.. If it's even possible???

You might be able to do it with memory tampering (overriding min-max values on the zoom control), but unless you're using a 8K screen, it will be way too little, lacking any detail. Also, there is a risk of lines not showing up at all, similar to how names and consists fade away at a given zoom.
What people normally do is take a bunch of photos and then edit them together into a bigger picture.

  3. I use a gaming laptop! Not sure how to temper with the settings to change the map viewing distance?
I've taken a few screenshots and pasted them to become a single map. It's just removing the annoying borders, I'm lazy ;)

Any examples of known US routes that have a similar issue, so I can see for myself what you mean ?

    Donner Pass, Canadian Mountain Passes.
Even European Ones like the oldest ECML.
Mostly visible when they are North-South, considering current wide screen resolution.
So even if you zoom out entirely, it still doesn't show the entire map.

  7. Basically, I want to view my entire routes map! TS Classic doesn't seem to let you zoom out far enough, that's why I'm asking if it's possible to change this limited settings

Here's what I want to see without needing to take a screenshot and pasting it every time.
    This is my route map!

Edit: Yes, most of the curves are missing intentionally.

No, I'm afraid you'll have to do as explained above. Make four or more screenshots and paste them together.

    Hi CityRailRulez

Are you planning to release your route or is that your private route?

  13. As stated above! The route is private, I haven't really thought about releasing the route! The route would most likely crash continuously as the game can only allow you to play around 3 hours depending on your system, before it decides to spit the dummy. As also stated above the route will exceed over 8 hours plus, TS Classic just couldn't handle it!! As far as I know

During my most enthusiastic days I did drive Canadian Mountain Passes and Donner Pass end to end, both are about 5-6 hours, plus the pauses. Admittedly the graphics are easier on these routes and there isn't too much AI - although in my own scenario I placed about 40 trains to meet, about every passing siding. Even managed editing it in one go. In 32 bit. Yes. I say the truth. I swear.

On the other hand, I managed to overload Donner Pass Roseville Yard by placing so many trains and engines that at some point it refused to load.

8h? That must be a huge route :o . Just for interest - how much kilometers is Sydney - Albury?
A other problem what I know is, that sometimes - if driven for a longer time, especially on curvy routes - the train becomes sometime bumby. But any way. When experiencing problems/errors with that long route, wouldn´t it better to split it into two sections? (instead an dump and TS-restart you can restart the second section). Could be better for more AI too, if you use those.

  16. Sydney to Albury is around 636 kilometers from Sydney! However, longer from Albury to Sydney as there's a spiral at Bethungra and a deviation at Frampton on the up main track. The entire route will be approximately over 900 kilometers of track to include some suburban lines.

I only want to test the route's full length first from Sydney to Albury and return back to Sydney using the XPT as long as I put in the speed limits on the track, so I know where to slow down because in TS Classic there's no way to disable derailments as far as I know... By speeding I could drive the entire length in around 4 ~ 5 hours real time.

This is my 3rd attempt to build the Sydney to Albury line, so splitting the route isn't an option! I want to push TS Classic to limits beyond!
    I've attached a new map!
