A lot of driving trailers are defined as an Electric loco. I understand that you can't drive these on unelectrified lines but is it possible to pull these as the last car of a train pulled by a diesel or in an AI train or will it just stand still or generate error messages?

If you set it as a dead loco in the editor it'll work like a coach albeit with some drawbacks depending on which coach you're using. Some can cars are designed to work with lots of trains; the GEML Class 90 pack's Mark 3 DVT has a universal model which cuts out most of its functionality to be compatible with as many trains as possible for example.

It has to have a definition to work as a Driving vehicle but they are just a coach.
They do appear in train consists and can go anywhere if you are not using them as a driving vehicle.
Some of these are universal versions, those in the AP Class 90 Pack have both, and you can drive a diesel or electric loco with them.

Thanks for the replies. I was looking at vR rather heavily scripted driving trailers that only works (as driving trailers) with the most recent versions of the 111 and 143 models. Did a testrun (that ended up as a run the entire route...) with a trailer trailing a 218 and it worked alright, I suppose it will work OK as an AI train too.
