I'm torn on this one... I didn't get the 33 because I WSR is so boring. But it's a 52.

Agreed (although the class 45 is also incredibly good, as they're both by the same guy, so they're kind of tied IMO), but the main complaint is that it's quite limited by only being available on the WSR.

When the editor comes out, I'm sure both the class 33 and class 52 will be taken everywhere imaginable.

Unlikely, DTG has followed a US/UK/DE cycle with releasing new routes. The last route was German, so the next will be American, and after that a British route, followed by a German one, and repeat.

I don't think they'll break this cycle for a while, and if they do, it will be for another 4th country.

This discussion about what is next should be in another topic for content suggestions. This one is about the announcement of the BR Class 52.

Hope this WSR service update will include things like top and tail movements. 52 on the front 7/8 coaches and a 33 or 47 on the back. Or a pair of 47s/33s. A service that perhaps came from the GWML and starts at Norton Fitzwarren junction. For a limited stop run to Minehead and back?

Would be nice to have some more variety but I doubt that will happen. It would be nice to see more than five carriages, when I visited there the services were six carriages at least. Some more mark 1's would be nice too as they certainly don't just have BSO and TSO's, some corridor stock and first class stock would be good.

Will the class 52 completely break down like it does at the real diesel galas? Definitely sounds like an opportunity for more class 33 scenarios....

Only kidding, looking forward to this....

Its a pity the class 52 and 33 cannot be used for services on GWE and NTP as well....otherwise I would have picked them up immediately. WSR is a pretty route but I find it a bit boring (largely because of the slow speed).

Hopefully the British routes receive a bit of love as the German stuff has of late....

I have decided to completely pass on further UK route and loco DLC, as it's all i played in TS20xx. Think i'm gonna go German-only from here on in and learn something completely new in TSW.

.... Could possibly be swayed if they added a 31, 50 or 55 though. :D

The 52 didn't run on NTP irl, so it wouldn't be realistic for it to be there. Don't know about the 33 though.

The 33 didn't either. It was introduced for the southern region and was mainly seen in the south east and the south west on England. Some made it up the the north west and north Wales on working from south Wales in the 80's but wouldn't have got to the Manchester to Leeds route, some may have been seen in Manchester though. After privatisation in the 90's some were operated by private operators in the north but that is far after NTP is set. I have seen a photo of an EWS class 33 in Aberdeen which is well off their original beaten track.

Fair enough....what about for the GWE then ? Sorry for my ignorance...but I'm from Aus, so not overly familiar with which locos ran where in the UK

The line out of Paddington was the class 52's stamping ground from their release until their withdrawal in 1977. Obviously the Paddington route is set far later but the 52 would be more at home on it. Certainly on a railtour scenario. Another thing to consider (if you want to be realistic) is the NTP is set in 1983 when preserved diesels were not allowed to run on British Rail on railtours (unlike steam) so a class 52 on a railtour on NTP would not be prototypical. Obviously it is our sim to do what we want with I guess so realism can go out of the window if we choose!

Yes, if I get to give both the 33 and 52 a good blast on a faster line I for one wouldn’t mind it not being ‘canon’.

DTG is trying to only run locos on tracks where they did in real life.
Mainly because of the community's complaints it wouldn't be realistic to run them on other tracks.
As long as the choice in tracks is limited the available locos will be limited too.
When other tracks on which the 52 has driven are released in-game I'm sure the 52 will become available on those tracks too.

Its plausible that 47s,33s and 52’s could or have run railtours along the GWML. Plus by the time NTP was set 1983. 52’s were withdrawn, meaning having a retro livery non br blue loco on a charter was possible.

    In real life
is about a daily timetabled schedule they'd run.
Not the maybe could have occasional touristic trips.
That's for the fans to do in-game once we have an editor.

Indeed. DTG has set routes in certain periods and makes the service mode as real as possible as it is 24 hours and not specifically specified which weekday, they assume it can happen any day of the week so they generalize it.
Trains that only do one run in the weekends or special trains that run every few weeks to months or a single time only, only takes more crunch time to put in.

Once the editor comes out you can make your own service mode layers and scenario's to add the loco's everywhere you want.

As for WSR the main reason you can guess that there is no steam, is because from the start it was clear it was a 'diesel gala', not a steam gala. So don't expect steam anytime soon.

Although in 1983 preserved diesels were not allowed on mainline charters so strictly speaking it wouldn't have been possible. However if the user wants to run their class 52 on the NTP when the editor is released then that is up to them of course.

Will we be able to "layer" service mode too? I hope we can, I we can create a service mode in the future that would be great, I think although the WSR is a slow route you could make some interesting service modes and bring it more to life with some imagination.

theorganist from what I have read in the TSW Studio updates is that you can add your own layered service mode to routes.

You can't edit the ones that come with the game, but add your own, adding rollings stock available in your library (or newly created rolling stock when developers make them once the tools are out).

Indeed, I have re-read the latest studio update and the layering system is not available to add any, but only for the created routes. They are looking into it if it is possible.

The scenario creation however should be possible as they are not depended on the service mode.
You need to add everything yourself in the route.

Hopefully in the future they add an option to select a service mode timetable to do. Then it maybe possible to add your own service modes.

I'm not giving up hope that with a bit of trickery it *might* ne possible to COMPLETELY replace entire service modes... unlikely, and probably not intended to be possible, but who knows? I mean, we shouldn't be able to do repaints right now, do maybe by combining the editor and the existing kind of hacks used right now, it could be possible.

    IDK though, it's still unlikely.
