I’m probably missing something in the Network Mode toolkit but I’m having trouble joining two tracks approaching from opposite directions.
However good the angle and height of the joints appear to be, I always end up with one or more red nodes at the join and never a good white one.
There is a "Joining/Merging of track Curves" tool although I have no idea what it is capable of doing, or how to use it.
Unfortunately this now appears to be a problem for the dispatcher which is frequently unable to find a route through such joints, resulting in no-path errors when compiling a timetable.

I dont know what the Join Track tool does, either. It seems broken to me. This is how I do it:
First make sure you turn up the "Ribbon Snap Radius" in the Lay Tool. Then start from one end and go along the other track until it snaps and the preview turns dark blue, then click to connect. It will create a junction where you clicked, so you have to get rid of the part that leads nowhere. connect.png

Thanks for the reply. I had seen the dark blue guides appear a few times but as below wherever I click on the blue I'm still left with a red node plus a black one, and what looks like the start of a junction which I can't seem to get rid of.

I have made it work with 3 straight sections by deleting the middle one and rejoining the two outer sections and that works fine. Maybe my effort to align the two ends was just not precise enough.

The red node is from the part of the junction that leads nowhere. To delete, go to the select tool in the network edit mode and then change to ribbon selection at the top of the viewport:

Select the short bit of track and delete. Might take you a few clicks to select it because it clips through the other track. The black node is the junction node. It will turn white when you get rid of the junction by deleting the other track.

Very useful info, thanks again GingerPitti . I need a lie down after today’s struggle so I’ll try that out tomorrow and report back.

It seemed counter intuitive that I could only select what looked like the main section of straight track immediately adjacent to the 'stump' turnout.
Then sure enough, pressing delete magically removed all traces of the very short turnout and I'm left with a neat join and a white node as promised.
Now all I need is a more in depth tutorial covering some of the other tools in the network edit mode.

Edit: Just joined two tracks where I had to travel almost 100m along the destination ribbon to find the guides turned blue. Then it just worked like a dream with two sections of 'turnout' ribbon left to delete.
Much easier than I was expecting.

Nice that it worked! The tools are very extensive so I recommend you try each one out on a test map. The naming and description of things take you a long way. Is there anything in particular you need help with? If I find the time over the weekend maybe I can write a little something..

Much appreciated, I'm not sure what to suggest at the moment but expect the next thing to catch me out will be just around the corner.
Simply knowing how to join tracks without messing around for hours has made all the difference this morning and hopefully this thread has been some help to others in the same situation.

Just read your ‘Diary of Creating a Route’ thread and there’s some very good info on the track laying tools in that one too.
