    Class 153
    Power and fleet details

The class 153, affectionately named dogboxes by enthusiasts, is a single coach Diesel unit, originally converted from class 155 DMUs.
They are powered by 1 NT855-R5 per unit, and a voith T211r transmission, giving each train a total output of 285 horsepower.
They were originally built as 2 car class 155 units, however british rail had decided to divide 35 of these into 70 single car sets, of which 39 remain today.
The class 153 has a unique layout, with a larger, gab on one end, and a much smaller cab on the other end

    Class 156
    Power and fleet details

The unit has a top speed of 75mph, and is powered by 2 cummins NT855-R5 engines, one in each coach, and 2 voith T211r transmissions, which produces a total of 570 horsepower.
The class 156 first entered service in 1986, and operated mainly long distance regional services, compared to the very similar class 150 which was more often used on shorter distance or commuter runs, today the class still operates on a lot of routes, however has been mostly outclassed by the slightly newer class 158.

There could possibly be 2 variants included, the class 156/0 (1564xx) and the ex anglia 156/9 (15690x), although the /9 didnt enter service with EMR till 2020. They look pretty much identical, although the /9 subclass uses a slightly different PIS to the /0.

    Services and layers

The class 156 and 153 would operate a good number of services on midland mainline alongside the class 158, albeit slightly less common.
It would layer onto ECML to occasionally substitute/work with the 158s.
As well as layers on glossop to substitute and work alongside the class 158's AI and driveable services.

    Conclusion
Overall, these units would be something slightly different to drive on the midland mainline, and if done right would help give the route a bit more variety and life!

Great suggestion, I think having the 153 or 156 would add variety to the route in terms of the amount of Sprinters you can drive :)
