I was having trouble with a lone signal sticking on red even though the path was definitely clear. The message from the signaller was to check the switches which in fact all looked ok and correctly switched.

I then decided to remove this signal so there are now no signals on the route. Unfortunately none of the switches now set the path required and all seem to be stuck in starting position.

I have used the Track Selection Tool to Clear All and Fill the sections a number of times but still the switches do not move even though compiling my very basic timetable for one train produces no errors.

It seems like signals are required for the dispatcher to set a path. Even though it's visible on the map without them.

Decided to use a backed up version of the plugin and now everything is working properly.
Sorry, I have no idea what sort of mess I had gotten things into but having several backups now seems like a very good idea.
I won't be removing the signal again.

I think the original sticking red light problem started after I set a speed limit for a crossover on the planned route, immediately beyond the signal.
Not sure if that was the cause or just a coincidence.

Ok just for the record I now understand the original problem a bit better.
I have a particular path through a signal, over a crossover and then via a turnout to a very long single track branch which is ok when I leave it for the AI to drive the train but the light is stuck on red when I elect to drive the exact same service myself.
On tabbing, the signaller tells me I’m denied permission and to check the switches which look ok.

It is set up to permit player driving so I must have something else incorrectly set in the timetable.
Any ideas on what to check would be very welcome.

Finally discovered that the branch line had a couple of problems. Half way down there was a bad red node where I had badly stitched together two approaching ribbons. Taking out a ribbon completely at this point enabled the service to run properly.
Then annoyingly when I correctly rejoined the two ends the problem of the red light reappeared.
Finally I realised there was a junction at the far end of this line which hadn’t yet been fitted with an actuator.
Adding this completely solved my sticking red light.
Hope this sorry saga is of some help to others here.
