I am trying to use the BR401 and there is no function whatsoever! I followed the instruction startup process and it does not work. One end I hit cab on then insert both keys, left one to neutral, right one to on, press HILL FILL to 5 (one end only this works), push left key to forward and it will not move. Both power cars traction power is on and yet it will not work from either end. One end the HILL FILL button will work and the throttle will not the other end there is still no pressure with the button held in for 30 seconds. I followed the startup procedure exactly in videos and this is not working. There are no fault finding guides being a DB unit so there is no way I can find why this will not start. It is the same problem every time I use it on a different route since it will not work on it's own route as LZB is broken. How am I supposed to get this to work?
first of all, it's not hill fill, it's HLL fill. HLL stands for Hauptluftleitung if I recall correctly (main airpipe or something). you need to make sure to turn over the brake key, reverser to forward (but I think you already did that), press HLL fill ONCE (it'll fill up to 5 bar automatically) release the train brake entirely, kick up the throttle and wait a moment, as the old 1991 machines have to start up before it can send power down the wheels. might take about 20 seconds. you can hear the fans spinning up and then it should be ready to go
I have both keys on, cab on, yet it still does nothing, in the end where it does work there is no power and it acts just like the BR187 which still has the same issue since the "fix".
- reverser in - that forward - set brake key - release brakes - hit throttle up - wait maybe theres also a bug like that you have to turn on AFB to get rid of the traction lock I guess
AFB makes no difference to the power on the 401, it just changes the end the h fill is works so the brakes no longer fully release, holding the cylinder pressure at 2.4 bar. When AFB is on or off the fill button does nothing at one end. Edit: The last unit I switched to has the fill button working at both ends but no power at either end with aft on or off, I can hear either tmb or transformer fans running but no GTO-VVVF hum starts as I expect from an older unit (I can't remember how loud it was when I tried the default route for the 401 but I never got very far because of the LZB, though I could have used the 403 so I might not have actually got the 401 to move yet). Edit II: Now one end of the 401 is filling the brakes really slowly and only up to 4.2.
Can't you use the Troubleshooting forum as you're making a thread for each loco you're having trouble with (apparently all locos) and clutter the General Discussion forum??
I have read the instructions in the troubleshooting guide and got nowhere, I followed the video tutorials and it still would not work, I asked under the videos and got aggression that I should not ask for technical data as it is confidential. I am getting nowhere with this after spending money on these. What am I supposed to do?
You changed ends without the correct procedure what causes a ever opened Knorr's big hole on the left end. On the BR401 heads, before you can switch the reverser to off, you need to press the "Cab Change" button on the back wall (needs to light up). If you set the reverser to off without it, an emergency brake application will occur on that head after 5 seconds.
This doesn't work, I have tried to set up the cab but it will not move after following the same procedure. It seems there is no way to tell which cab is on so as soon as I try to setup one it fails as the other was on.
That will just fail the mission or lose the timetable I am on. I have restarted new timetabled runs and it is the same thing not knowing what which cab status is to activate cab start or not. There is also what if it is required to change ends in a scenario, how do I know if the back cab has finished the time delay before causing a dual cab error making it impossible to continue?
