I wish I could, but as a console player I'm not even sure if SimRail will ever come to console in the first place.
I'm guessing it would be likely SM42/SU42 that will go into the game for this. Most of smaller shunters were withdrawn in 2000s (although I would love to have the tiny SM03/SM04 or medium size SM30 in the game). SU42 is a modified SM42 with addition of electric train supply, so it can be used as a passenger line loco on slower speed unelectrified lines, so no changes to the model would be needed.
What can I say, utterly fantastic update. The graphics improvements especialy foliage are tip top and performance seems smoother too. Just did the EN57 training module and what a great addition to the fleet. Going to be spending a lot of time driving that one (brakes are a bit tricky). DTG really need to start learning from how these guys are doing it.
The feature asked during each of TSW roadmap streams or previews, at least when TSW2 was still supported (I haven't watched any of the later, so people maybe still ask). I'm sold!
I don't know what to say about that, it's just fantastic look at the detail: if you want to try it in single player mode, you can do it this way: \User\AppData\LocalLow\SimKol\SimRail open the settings.conf file and find RBC_ID=0 instead of 0 enter a number like 123456 and save it. ONLY SINGLEPLAYER! if you wanna go back to multiplayer just write back 0 and save.
Looks good is it worth it for me if I'm a single player, I also see there is 30% off in the steam sale.
The SP game is still very basic with a few scenarios which you can’t save if you want to finish later. However MP is fine, there are several very quiet servers where you will probably be the only person on. You can pick any train running on the network that doesn’t already have a “live” player operating it and take it over. Definitely worth getting and supporting the project. Compared to what DTG offer with their £30 route DLC’s or £12 to £15 train DLC’s SimRail is a bargain and especially with the Steam discount.
Can confirm 100% that toilets remain off the priority list. Definitely worth exploring other sims for your toilet needs. Matt.
Somebody will complain that the sim toilets are much too clean compared to real life, and then you get the words "toilet" and "immersion" in the same sentence, and it's all downhill from there.
Well, that's a cracking update, performance has definitely been optimised and the graphics enhanced - quite a combo. The EN57 is a joy to drive, no wonder I can hardly find any availability on most servers! Loving the clickable paper timetable as well.... Great effort.
Yes the one drawback to MP... Finally found a server with an EN57 that had more than 5 minutes left on its run. Going nicely then, oof, server reboot. They really need to work on getting a full single player game up and running.
The way SimRail is rendering foliage is vastly superior to TSW. You can watch trees from a distance and they won't be changing shape like in TSW. No stuttering also. And check the deer - perfectly modelled and naturally animated. Looking around, eating and chewing, eye blinking, ears wobbling. It adds so much to immersion, TSW's uncanny cats don't... in fact after playing a SimRail session and returning to TSW, it feels a bit - comical. And with all its typical DTG issues, stuck red lights, countless bugs, playing SimRail makes me feel confident that whenever something's wrong it's likely my own fault. SimRail improves, TSW breaks stuff with updates, ever adding more bugs to the endless list. TSW is quantity over quality, sell as much as possible. Controlling imposes strictly calculated DLC release dates on the clearly overloaded DTG devs, ready or not. Let a certain amount of the playerbase complain on the forums, all calculated like the Ford Pinto case. Release the same thing as a new game to remove bad reviews. SimRail (and Zusi, Run8) are quality over quantity. Which in the end makes me happier and is a much more satisfactoy experience to me.
Now, after the update, lighting in Simrail is much better than in TSW 4. Driving in darkness is very realistic in terms of light, at the same time in TSW 4 you feel total blind when driving night services.
I never noticed the deer before, will need to keep a look out for them. Funny what you say about TSW seeming flat. After finishing my (aborted) EN57 run on SimRail I popped into Snowrunner to finish a mission there (great) then into TSW to continue a run on BPO. Even with the Class 40 the latter just seemed a bit… flat. And I think one thing SimRail, DRS and even Derail Valley are proving - in the hands of competent programmers and artists, Unity is a far better choice for a train sim than UE.
As to UE I think people are right saying that choosing UE for TSW was a mistake from the start. OMSI's ( a well known bus simulator) creator has been developing LOTUS for years and recently he has come to decision to switch game engine and in this process he denied UE cause, according his words, UE is not proper engine for a serious transport simulator.
Now if we had the TSW pacer bounce with the EN57..even better. Yes, there needs to be more wildlife in train sims. Not sure why there's a lack of birdlife, even TSC has some good animated flying Crows which adds to the immersion.
On the other hand "The Bus" looks and runs fantastic in UE. But it is UE 5 by now and also it is not an area as big as a whole TSW route. But it shows that in the end it's possible. I'm not a hughe fan of unity in many games, but SR seems to use it to it's best abilities. SR does some times also stutter for a moment as it is loading in something ahead, but it is, far, far, far less then it is in TSW. Also the FPS don't drop to the bare minimum in some situations like being in a big station or driving through the woods. And this is for routes 3 times as big as in TSW. I had some hours of MP yesterday, and I'm really enjoying this game! Can't wait for other nations content in SR.
The Bus is not any close to OMSI in terms of bus simulation, physics driving expreince and will never be cause UE .... It looks rather soapy too The Bus is a bright example that you can not create anything proper in transport sim field when using UE OMSI is the wide SIMULATOR. The Bus is an arcady game with UE limitations
I don't think it's about UE or Unity. Both are highly capable engines, it's what you're feeding them that makes the difference.
I can! (within forum CoC). That's at least three train sims with Unity vs one with UE. AFAIK Run 8 uses its own custom engine as does Zusi and Trainz. Open Rails is also a custom engine, presumably developed on the back of MSTS. So that's a fair few to choose from which don't use UE. Not sure about the Munich and Vienna tram sims.
TramSim is UE4 too. Zusi is coded in Delphi, a Pascal derivate . I think Carsten has mentioned moving the whole codebase to C++ someday...
I really must try it some time but reviews are mixed and it's knowing which one offers the better experience.
It's a fun game, but it can get boring pretty quickly. I also have no clue what the devs have in plan currently.
Well I believe the SimRail people are also working on trams and buses so that should be a good play if and when it appears.
Addendum to the above. Just picked up the Vienna one in the sale but seems very jerky and poorly optimised. UE4 in a transport game again for you. Well I’ve got about 90 minutes left to see if I can get it running acceptably.
I like how the light transition in tunnels works in SimRail, not overexposing all displays and dial lights to become illegible as in TSW... All the light sources are matching, no overbright saloon lights. They're doing it right here. And the brakes of the EN57 are super easy to control using 3/6/9 numpad keys. Tap 3 to apply, 6 to lap and hold 9 to release. I like how the tutorial shows you if you're braking too hard or too soft. I'm playing with my right hand on the numpad, left index on horn key and left thumb on space bar. Currently running in SP, the EN57 Autumn service from Sędziszów to Katowice... enjoying it incredibly... And the passengers are smiling in TSW they look a bit grumpy all the time... Nice night lighting!
See the power of Unreal Engine 5 and look at the passenger (1:43), you will fall in love with her dazzling smile.
Just love it... so far have not even discovered a single route building glitch. Doesn't matter if UE4, 5 or Unity. All it takes is care by the devs. working mirrors
