Welcome to the Unofficial Screenshot Competition! This is a fun and friendly alternative to the official Screenshot Competition run by DTG. Theme for this week: Speed of Steam One part cheeky, one part freestyle. Bit of a riddle with many possible solutions. Our rules: Screenshot should be in some way (can be very tenuous) linked to the theme. You can enter up to 3 pictures, posted separately. You can delete and replace if you wish. TSC only shots allowed. 3rd party content, enhancement and artistic editing is welcome. Thread poster picks the podium and can't enter themselves. The decision is final. The winner chooses the new theme for next week and becomes its judge. We strongly discourage any negativity, this is a light hearted & fun contest! This is a major "we are all friendly" thread and we hope it will always remain so. Please keep chat to an absolute minimum. Entries close at Friday, November 24th EOD (midnight) and will be judged by me Saturday morning. In the event of this week's winner not responding by 8pm EST Sunday, November 26th, a new thread will be created with the theme of freestyle. Good luck to all, but most importantly, remember to have fun!
In the summer of 1955, 60048 Doncaster races through Hougham with the down "Northumbrian". Route: Cambridge Branch Lines and the ECML Loco: A3 (Caledonia Works)
Now to go to the other side of Britain: The climb out of Carlisle up to Plumpton starts immediately, but 46210 Lady Patricia is taking her 13-coach load in her stride as she hits 60mph with the up "Mid-Day Scot", sometime in 1957. Route: Steaming Over Shap (Wotawallys Bits) Loco: Caledonia Works Princess Royal
Bit quiet in here... 6016 King Edward V is seen speeding away from Exminster with the down "Cornish Riviera Express". Route: Glorious Devon (Golden Age Developments) Loco: Caledonia Works King
It's because we agreed in secret that you're going to win! I mean me, myself and I along my spirit wolf. But seriously, I don't drive steam much. I might pick a couple pretties from my relatively recent sets. I ran the Cab Forward exactly two years ago. Thus emphasis on relatively. I think this is a perfectly valid theme, anyway.
I completely agree. If no other submissions come through, georgeuk90 will be granted the winners position for being the only one to submit instead of having to redo another week with freestyle. If I did that I feel like I would be robbing him of his win and dedication to submitting this week, which isn’t what happened last time which I regret and that’s why I want to do this if he ends up being the only participant this week. I feel it’s good to have themes that branch out from the norm and push out of our comfort zones to come up with creative screenshots and experience the game in a different way.
Hey give me chance I think i have 1 decent Kettle that I've driven once, just need to fix the scenario as cloud flicker is an issue then once i get time to drive georgeuk90 will have competition If i can't find my kettle I'll wind up my trusty 37 with the steam heater going (come on AP why is this not simulated!!) Or I'll hang out the window of my 87 @100 kettle in hand for my next cuppa!
Eh, I'll have a crack. Somewhere on the West Somerset Railway we see a S&DJR 7F crossing Sir Lamiel. Route: West Somerset Railway Loco: S&DJR 7F, N15 King Arthur Class "Sir Lamiel"
Ok - a B2 struggling to get steam or speed makes its way through New Southgate station with a stopper from Cambridge: Route: ECML/Cambs Loco: My bodge of the RSC B1 into a B2
And a black cat in a coal-hole...or Britannia 70013 on a semi-fast freight leaves York on greasy track on its way to Grantham I like the inadvertent mix of smoke, steam and stair-rods on this one from the archive. Route: ECML/Cambs Loco: Just Trains Standard 7MT with a mix of wagons (too dark to say which!)
TSC updates dodged, Fire in my boiler started however soon after this shot was taken it ran out of water (Stupid steam trains, that does`nt happen in a class 90! ) Anyway...... 60532 Blue Peter A2 Peppercorn speeds towards Bournemouth.......
Yep its Blue Peter again This time I`ve figured out how to drive it and managed to keep the boiler full of water! Go me!!
Okay, here we go. Are you haunted by the spirit of steam? Worry not, the Count of Monster Disco is here to keep you entertrained.
One Shot, One Kill. If you turn to the left and hike up the hill, you will find Sentinel... Oh wait, this is not Darkshore. This is rainy Donner Pass. The absence of black exhaust suggests this is either my train downhill, or an AI. (Which, given the scenario, makes me Captain Obvious.)
A south bound express hauled by 3804 "County Dublin" on a misty Devon morning. Loco:- GWR County Class Route:- Riviera Line (50s)
When all around is purple, 18-505 painted in a colour scheme to match the mountain heather ...... and the trailing Mitropa Rheingold consist
A blast from the past, SR Merchant Navy class 35011 with a West Coast Railway charter, running a Welsh Marches Express. Loco:- Bulleid Pacific - Merchant Navy Class. Route:- Welsh Marches Line.
Here are the results! Thank you everyone for coming through and submitting by the end. In 3rd is triznya.andras with this wonderfully ghoulish screenshot of the Spirit of Halloween. You may be wondering how this fits the "Speed of Steam" theme well I have played this route in the past and this locomotive is strangely fast! There's also a scenario where you mush rush around the route at maximum speed under a timer with this locomotive. Therefore I think it fits the theme. In 2nd is cscarpenter with this atmospheric shot of a classic GWR steam locomotive travelling at high speeds along a body of water. I like this one due to it's atmospheric feel with the mist. In 1st is this wonderfully royal feeling screenshot by Craigie-C. I love the colours on this locomotive and it looks fast. The mountain scenery is also lovely too. Well done! Thanks again to everyone who submitted. I'm excited for your chosen theme for next week Craigie-C.
Wow thanks for the win Blazin, much appreciated, another great & varied selection of kettles to chose from, also congrats cscarpenter & triznya.andras on your podium placings. Next weeks competition is now up and running with theme Passenger Transport. Can't wait to se your offerings Good luck to all. https://forums.dovetailgames.com/threads/unofficial-screenshot-competition-week-48.76522/
