Yeah. Physics wise the Ge 4/4 on Arosa still has not been fixed, it still starts with a sudden jump to the slightest throttle input.

If that could not been fixed in years, I don't see how the Allegra will behave. And I assume it will not feature the new TSW4 suspension physics either.

You do know the route they are doing for TSW now is longer than their TSC counterpart?

The route length was almost certainly baked in months ago, so it's not worth getting depressed about. It's also a waste of everyone's time going on and on about it. If it's not for you, don't buy it. You have the power!

Well yes, that is the plan? But that does not stop me from providing feedback.

Doesn't mean that it makes it immune from criticism.

Im not comparing Rivet with JT now, also i rather care little about the red roofs, which in fact look different. im sure this section will be good for Rivets standards etc.,also the allegra will be made well from what i can see.

The only point for me, which truely matters is the route ending / starting points. Thanks to jasper for answer the questions, but for me a hard pass for a full price at day one. ill give it a try at 80% discount on a sale. (Rivet could have made the decision to start the route from st.moritz and get my day 1 purchais money for going the extra mile, but to be honest i was rather annoyed by the announcement of this 2/3 line section, which isnt a good indicator for spending money ..)

Preston blackpool was full of surprises and beyond what i expected with all the liveries and extras on top of the detailed route, thats a purchais i would do right aigain for even a higher price.

Im currently still asking me what quality aspect(s) justifies the increased price of tsw dlcs since tsw3. Again begging for the minimum? There is a point, where i have to make the line as a customer.

lux#4689. I have amended my paragraph as Rivet only extended the Thomson interactive route from where they ended to Tirano. Pontresina would make a better end point if they are not prepared to do the route to St. Moritz. A lot of tours begin there.

I recognise that Rivet are making the route slightly longer than TSC.

The adoration Just Trains has received for an absolutely stunning Blackpool Branches route, is quite rightly and richly deserved. It is truly brilliant and the best route so far for TSW.

Rivet and everyone else, will have to work extremely hard to match the Just Trains creation. Rivet should and must fully listen to the comments received, since their announcement of the Bernina and make sure they produce a route to both satisfy the community and be accepted as much as Blackpool Branches.

On previous evidence I don’t think they will succeed and Bernina will be added to their list of poor inaccurate designs. I truly hope that they prove me wrong this time and produce a route of exceptional high quality and as accurate as the real life route, just like Just Trains have produced. There is no reason why they can’t, as there are numerous cab ride videos on You Tube, that they should be able to match like for like throughout their route. If they fail this time, l think they should give up. Lets see what they are made of. Can they do a high quality route this time?

In my opinion, I quite enjoy all of them, except arosa maybe which is too slow for me. Sure, there are some bugs, but they don't affect me at all. Don't think they should just give up either because of their swiss content which gives a new driving experience.

I highly doubt the working copy is baked otherwise you prevent the ability to make small changes or fixes revealed by testing. Even on completion there will be an unbaked master of the route kept safely backed up in several places. So it should not be insurmountable, regardless of what stage the build is at, to go back and add that extra 12 miles to St Moritz or indeed just Pontresina.

I said the route length, including the area it covers, was probably baked months ago, not the work on the route (as it is) itself.

I agree with this, Just Trains have set a new yardstick. I wonder how much they've spent on it though? Will they actually make their money back? I suspect this will be looked at very carefully by DTG and other companies working on routes/DLC (assuming they know the finances behind it) to see if the economics work, in which case they might choose to invest more time, i.e. money, into what they do if it brings financial reward. A company could make the greatest route of all time but if they bankrupt themselves as a result, it's ultimately a failure. It would be interesting to see how long it would take JT to do a new route of a similar standard now that they know the tools because I think that will be the real indicator - for us, DTG, Rivet, SkyHook, etc. - as to whether it's sustainable to produce routes of this quality at a price point that enough people are willing to pay.

It honestly shows how bad value some of the routes are. BPO being £29.99, with all the content and quality it offers. Then you have DTGs new Maintalbahn route for £24.99, and probably this new Swiss route at the same price.

Failure is in this case measured subjectively. For some the route is already unplayable because some roofs of some houses are red and not grey. For other, it is when the sound isn't good (which is a very important point) and other think the route is failed if the scenarios aren't good because they only do scenarios.

Things that should be spot on are imo:
    • signalling
    • timetable working fine and being more than A-->B-->A
    • Sounds
    • train physics
    • scenery
These are the things that should be spot on. And even there: While i can "live" with bad sound, i couldn't with wrong signalling because it makes it unplayable (literally).

And even if they fail (by your or by my or by anyones standards), I don't think they should give up. How would they ever get better if they didn't try again? Also: While there are a lot of 3rd parties doing UK stuff, there is only one doing swiss stuff. What a shame for all those who want more swiss routes if they just give up? Providing constructive feedback certainly helps. Expecting them to fail doesn't at all. Rivet imo indeed got better. When you compare their IOW to Edinburgh-Glasgow or Arosa to Bernina, there is a lot they're already doing better.
They also fixed (hopefully) the shopping cart sounds. They brought the train annoucement system into the game. With Arosa they made signals operable in 1st person. And Bernina now features fully automated train annoucements in 3 languages. And the Allegra can change it's voltage, so it can be used on Arosa. Sooo... why should they stop? I like the fact they're trying to be creative. In a literal sense - creating new gameplay experiences. They shouldn't stop with that. Rivet should continue to become better. To finally master good sounds. To have trains with realistic physics. And to have an outstanding mountain alpine scenery (not like Arosa).

The route looks nice, but I would definitely still be vigilant, this is rivet after all, there's always a catch with their routes, I've had hope in rivet many many times in the past, I thought rivet would get better after the 484, but...well they didn't really

One thing I have seen with this route, is they have been using the lidar tech, so that's a positive..I guess?

There has been quite a bit of discussion about the length of this route. I would be happier if the route was extended to Pontresina whilst others would like it to go to St. Moritz. Not sure if there is a poll on this or how to start one.

Don't bother; it would just be a self-fulfilling prophecy.

Everyone would vote for a longer route, just as everyone almost always does with routes like MML, Harlem etc.

Many routes in TSW start and end illogically or in the middle of nowhere ( PFR, GWE, even NYT ).

This thread is pretty much the equivalent of a poll.

Hello Jasper! I have a very easy question about allegra. Does the rearview mirror work? I mean, can it be opened and closed like the Arosa one? thank you !!

Dear Jasper_Rivet and DTG Matt ,
The Island Line mastery (Class 483) tile is still not working despite it being reported to DTG and to Rivet on multiple occasions by multiple users since its release for TSW2 in July 2022. It has been completely missing throughout the lifespan of TSW3, and is still missing now that TSW4 has been released. To be honest, I (and others on the forum) do not expect it to be fixed at all.

Yet, Rivet and DTG will be expecting us as consumers and railfans to spend our hard earned money buying your Engineering Express and RHB Arosa Aggregates Gameplay Packs on Tuesday November 21st; and the upcoming (partial) Berninalinie route (which for, balance, looks graphically amazing).

Sorting out the mastery tile should have been a relatively simple fix (e.g. some flag needing to be switched on or some "if" / "and" statements needing to be tweaked) performed after the route was released in July 2022.

A simple fix you say. Unless you're a game developer. But something simple may be a difficult fix

If a fix for a build in function like Mastery is not an easy fix, then the game is terribly written.

50+ years of programming experience (not as a game developer). The visibility of the mastery tile would likely have a Boolean value of 0 (disable) or 1 (enable). From what we've seen of the backend in various streams, the GUI has tick boxes which amount to the same thing.

An IF statement could check whether ALL tasks have been successfully completed, e.g. (using pseudocode): IF (Tier ==1) THEN tile == 0 ELSEIF (Tier == 2 AND mileage < 100000 AND scenarios <3) THEN tile ==0 ELSE tile ==1 etc. Probably could be shortened, but you can see the idea. I couldn't remember the exact mileage conditions for the mastery tile so used an approximation.

Would be better as .... ELSEIF (Tier ==2 AND (mileage < 100000 OR scenarios <3)) THEN tile ==0 ... to work correctly, as the one I put above would wrongly show the tile when either mileage or weather scenarios would have been completed.

Interesting video that is very truthful. Rivet are nowhere near the standard Just Trains have just set.

It's a good video for calling out Rivet, who do need but there is quite a lot of nonsense at the end, and he goes completely off the rails by mixing opinion with fact and just generic "don't buy this!!!" nonsense, as below:

9:30 - He effectively has a swipe at the people who buy these DLCs.

10:10 - He spends the best part of 40 seconds telling people what they should and shouldn't buy. Rightly, he does say we shouldn't take his word for gospel.

11:05 - "If reviews are 'mostly negative', done buy it"; "you don't need a full collection to enjoy this game" - nobody needs to be playing this game at all. I wonder why he thinks we are.
    Hint: We w___ to

11:15 - "you just need to have what you like playing, and for most people, what you like playing is not rubbish stuff" - Jesus wept what a line... Gameplay Packs, in terms of quality, are generally ok, mainly because there isn't enough to break for it to be overly problematic.
The "rubbish" he refers to is just simply his own dislike for the product type (or Rivet's sub-par DLCs, I can't tell which, as the background is the 483 as he says this.)

11:26 - Trainguy pretends he's a phsycologist, and also tells the viewer what they think is value for money.

12:24 - "If we want to send a message, to these companies, that we're not interested in poor-quality content, then we should stop buying poor-quality content; we should stop feeding the cycle"
There it is... There are some DLCs that are objectively poor in quality: The 187, the 1938 Stock, Oakville, and so on (long list) - however, that doesn't mean people have to stop buying them. Especially people who see past it and enjoy it for what it is.
If a developer makes my local line, and it's an awful DLC, am I still buying it?
Yes. Pretty much anyone would. It's your home town in a game - if not, it's somewhere you're familiar with - and that's pretty LOVE*ing cool!
When Cathcart Circle released, I bought it day one (a first, for me) - Glasgow is only 20-something miles away, and the Cathcart Circle is a route I held a special interest in (for some unknown reason) as a child. I didn't know that at the time it came to TSW, but regardless.
Point being: People buy stuff they like, and are interested in, not only based on quality. Besides, it can be better to judge for yourself rather than let others do it for you.

TLDR; Everything after the 10 minute mark is really just draining the barrel of "vote with your wallet" and making it a pathetic attempt at making it seem like his ideas of "rubbish" are important.

Apart from this video not being about bernina, i occasionally watch some of his videos and at least i dont find hin as bad as a certain new zealander.
But he seems to be one of those who have a phobia of saying anything TSW related is good, preston blackpool was -quote- not awfully done ;)
So when i see a video from him i already know he will dislike the product no matter what, but something makes me watch them anyway from time to time.

But i have to say i also dont understand why rivet made even more content and a third timetable for arosa, when they have have bernina, which will be a massive step up in all regards from arosa, coming up to focus on.

Yet instead of shouting scam and robbery, i just leave it to the people that might enjoy it, none of my Business

I had to laugh at this (only in an ironic way). You've got 50+ years of programming experience but you still managed to write a bug that you then had to come back and fix. It's not trivially easy, is it?!

Just because a fix is easy (although we don't actually know that for sure) doesn't automatically mean it should/ be fixed (at all). Prioritisation doesn't work like that.

Well considering none of the bugs by Rivet are getting fixed, they aren't prioritizing anything.

Just Trains set the bar so ridiculously high that there is absolutely no way I’m spending the same amount of money on a Rivet route. I don’t even need to see it to know it won’t be of that standard. Their routes have proven to be consistently substandard.

I disagree that it’s ridiculously high, it’s essentially the standard that should be the norm. It only seems ridiculously high due to the substandard releases we have had previously.

Credit to Just Trains for doing a good job, but it should be the standard that they’re all producing and it’s more a reflection on others that we are all so amazed by a well produced DLC.

I agree. What JT has created should be the norm, because it clearly show what is capable with TSW.

I’m not a Rivet hater. I really like Island Line 2022. I also think they are really good at modelling buildings and Locomotives. But I have stopped buying any of their DLC purely because in my perception, they don’t fix things. If I remember correctly when Arosa came out the timetable was completely unachievable and it took the best part of a year for it to be corrected. Even now the train still lurches even though it’s been improved. One of the most complained about issues was the shopping trolley sounds and that has only been fixed now that they want to sell us something else.

Now we get to Bernina and I just can’t get excited about it despite living in Switzerland. With a totally illogical end point it will always seem wrong to me. Unlike some, I’m not blown away by some of the screenshots either. Arosa looks really good in the snow. So we’ll see what Bernina looks like in all seasons. The only plus point for me is the Allegra, but I’m not convinced they’ll get the physics right.

I’m really hoping they will get Bernina right. But there is no way I’m getting it on Day 1. I’m waiting first for reviews and then to see what patches it gets.

Considering that beta testers are already on it I was hoping it's much closer to release :). But it remains to be seen

Sad to see the color difference between snow on the tracks and snow on the ground. Also it does not look like they are using the 3D snow build up effect on the tracks like most routes do since TSW3.

You're right. Then it might be a screenshot earlier from development maybe?

Because interestingly this screenshot also shows the tracks not having snow build up.

But on the very first teaster image there clearly is snow built up on the tracks.

So either screenshots taken at different times during development, or some screenshots don't have snow set to 100%, which might also explain why they are only partially covered.

Luckly wise it seems included otherwise that would be a large mistake because the trademark of the alps is the snow :D
