I’m looking to pick up one of these routes in the sale and I’m not sure which one. Any thoughts on what you would recommend ? It’s for Xbox Series X. I was holding off until Z-Fighting got fixed but I’ve seen the training center 323 and it doesn’t seem to have it and I haven’t seen a steam train with it either so I’m willing to make an exception due to the sale.
I can't comment on Glossop, but Peak Forest just didn't click with me. Steam in its current form makes it difficult to recommend. And I just don't enjoy doing steam passenger services on TSW for some reason, but Peak feels like it really should've been an early diesel route. It's a shame because it's actually not a bad route. If it had a BR green era DMU and more fleshed out freight, it would be miles better.
I’d go Peak Forest as in TSW4 the HUD disappears on a lot of Glossop services and doesn’t let you finish them and there’s no sign of a fix for it.
I’ve downloaded some green skins including several DMU ones and made several 1960s diesel scenarios on Peak Forest. Loving it. There are some good green diesel scenarios to be downloaded too.
Definitely Peak forest. I barely touch Glossop, if I want to drive the 323, I'll jump on Birmingham Cross City.
Peak Forest is more interesting and has lovely scenery. I’ve only just got Glossop and it is okay but nothing to write home about. I only got it because it was a tenner in the PS sale.
I love the Peak forest route. I know steam physics are struggling right now but its still a really nicely made route and has a lot of detail. The timetable is a bit light it does have to be said but hopefully this gameplay pack on the roadmap will sort that out I also do love the 4F it sounds great at low speeds. Its just impossible to get the safeties on it to shut up
Peak Forest is clearly the superior route. Glossop is almost a " one and done " experience, a single emu on a rather mundane line with average scenery and very poor night lighting. Peak Forest has more potential, especially if it gets a 1st Gen DMU. It's scenically interesting, even though it has illogical start and end points.
If you can put up with the dire steam physics, definitely Peak Forest. The route passes through spectacular scenery and recreates a route in large part now closed or freight only and captures the period feel very well. There are flaws, still reckon it should have gone to Derby and DTG didn't want/CBA to add a Class 104 DMU to work Peak Forest shuttles but rising over that probably one of my most enjoyed UK routes, up there with TVL and NTP. Glossop, well played a bit but ultimately just another one handled EMU commuter run on a very short route. They picked the wrong era and should have gone for when Woodhead was still open, or at least the line was still operated by the Class 506 1500v DC units. Or it should have been included as part of a bigger Manchester suburban network. As Fawx states above, if you want to drive the milk float (sorry, 323) BCC is a better choice.
Peak Forest is better if you’re going to use all the tools at your disposal. Steam stinks but if you can get some BR Green liveries and set up some scenarios, you’re golden. I don’t have time for all that, so Peak Forest mostly sits on the shelf for me. Hopefully we get some BR Green in there one day. Glossop is what it is. Nice brief 35 minute runs in a 323. Not much variety. If you’ve done one service, you’ve pretty much done them all. I enjoy it when I run it once in a while, and when I don’t want to do a 90 minute BCC service.
I think it looks like Peak Forrest to be the better candidate, it should have came with BR layers but I think stands more of a chance at getting them than future layers on Glossop. Im going to pick up peak Forrest now, might pick glossop in another sale, probably in 6 months + for Xbox can’t deny this one has a lot, but these are the only 2 I’m missing from it hopefully steam physics are sorted out though before more steam trains/routes come to TSW.
I wouldn't buy Peak Forest at full price, solely due to steam's dire state in the game, however, I haven't bought Glossop full stop. Peak Forest has been made absolutely beautifully, and seems to have some dlc on the way to get round the steam issue hopefully. In the meantime it is a great place for a thrash in a Peak, or cruise in the 101 via freeroam.
Glossop is/was a pretty well done route with some decent scenarios. But as others have mentioned it’s completely broken in that services from glossop can’t be done, so wouldn’t recommend buying that. Hasn’t been any mention of it being looked at either
Well if you want new trains then obviously Peak Forest. If you just want a load of new track then Glossop. Probably the cheekiest route DTG have ever produced.
I like Glossop. When it came out, it was priced lower than usual and had a release discount, so it was a great way for me to pick up the Class 323 without committing to Birmingham Cross-City. It also has some nice layers and unique areas, like the huge bridge before the line splits, along with the guard scenario. It was clearly a gap filler route, but does have quite a lot of unique things to offer regardless (compared to other smaller routes like Maintalbahn, which just came out but you wouldn’t know since nobody’s talking about it). That being said, I’m not returning to it as much as I’d hoped. There’s ultimately just not a lot of variety. I don’t own Peak Forest, but the route seems intriguing. The scenery seems nice, although I know people have heavily criticized the end points and missed opportunities in the timetable. There were also unfulfilled promises - a fully modeled footpath was completely blocked off. But with the rumored BR Diesel pack, this route could turn into a little gem (although that obviously comes with an additional payment ). All in all, Glossop is definitely not the best EMU route out there, but it’s a solid offering if you’re interested in the unique things they implemented. Definitely no must-have though. Peak Forest on the other hand… I guess it’s interesting if you’re into steam freight (because the passenger side of things was kinda neglected on that route), or if you’re willing to wait and pay for a future diesel pack. But if that doesn’t apply to you, some the choices made during development might frustrate you quickly. As an introduction to steam and especially the passenger experience, I still think Spirit of Steam has the upper hand despite all its flaws. I’m aware you’ve already made your decision, but perhaps my waffling will be of help to others who clicked on this thread because they have the same dilemma
Glossop until steam locos are finished. Do not reward DTG for releasing unfinished content and then not finishing it.
