    What's cheaper?
Buying pre-baked cookies from a store
Buying the ingredients and making cookies yourself.

Just a general off topic question. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Trying to cut down on what I spend.
A response would be appreciated. :)

I think it depends on which country you live in...

'Buying the ingredients & making the cookies yourself' is the cheaper option for me by a large margin. :)
The only downside would be the relatively small shelf-life of homemade cookies as industrial grade preservatives are not a domestic commodity here.

You will get more if you bake them yourself, but it depends on what the prices are like in your local supermarkets as too which is the cheaper option per unit.

Depends which ones you buy I would say, ingredients I think always seem to add up in cost quite quickly though.

I assume home-made would be cheaper by quite a bit at least in countries where people cook regularly (like eastern europe) and would likely have unmatched quality after a bit of practice.

I mean are basic ingredients so expensive in the UK that you would consider the pre-baked ones to be cheaper?

i would say so, the ingredients if you don’t just want plain + the ingredients even if you did just want plain, I don’t eat that many cookies so baking more of them isn’t really helpful, 4 is probably more than enough for one day if they are the bigger size ones, then theirs the gas/electric money rising (not much but contributes) for the oven then theirs the time it takes to do all those tasks.

just seems more worth grabbing a bag of 5 for about £1.50 or something if I did want them.

it probably ultimately depends how many you want, not many shop seems more efficient, many then baking would probably work out better.

Economies of scale would suggest that the pre-baked ones would be cheaper, however, if you find yourself buying multiple of a batch rather than just one or two, then home-baking would be better.

For example, if you were buying 40 cookies, but they were all priced in 5-cookie bags, you would need 8 bags. This would probably be more expensive than buying the ingredients required for baking 40 cookies yourself. If you only needed 10 cookies, then pre-baked would be better.

If you are trying to cut down spending, why the cookies? How could you do this to the cookies????
