To be fair it should be an option for the stock that sits on the sidings and isn't in use. I'd much prefer they be completely off instead of unrealistically sitting on constantly, which I'm certain one way or another doesn't help game performance in general.

 

Blackpool Branches is actually a great example of where shutdown and cold-start would be logical. The Pacers are stabled in various sidings and bay platforms overnight, and it doesn't make sense for them to be sitting with their engines idling and the saloon lights on for hours at a time - but they wouldn't be shut down just when turning around at a terminus.

There's a couple of 08 shunters that also spend long hours doing nothing, and should need to be prepared before starting work. Then there are the mainline locos that come in with a train, then depart for their home region with the same train hours later, but sit in the carriage sidings with the engine running all that time. Official BR instructions, at least for one period, suggested shutting engines down if they would not be required for some defined period - which was less than an hour - and then restarted at least several minutes before departure. (Here there would be a distinction between a "cold start" on shed or after an overnight stabling, and a "warm start" after a relatively short period.)

With electric traction, it's less obvious that shutting down makes sense from an efficiency (or framerate) standpoint. However, in practice electric locos are much easier to shut down and restart, as it's just a matter of dropping and raising the pantograph, rather than having strong enough batteries to turn the engine over and enough time to warm it up before work. So this is done whenever the loco is left unattended, even if that's just the driver going on break.

 

The ONE livery is actually owned by Freightliner, is that a hint for the normal Freightliner green 66 to come?

Arriva's currently being sold to I Squared Capital. Contract already signed but some officials still have to agree to the deal so won't be done until 2024

 

Is the formation designer something within the Epic editor or will it be an integral part of TSW 4?

 

It's integral, there's footage of it in the menus for TSW4 in some streams.

Cold starte would require some fairly heavy core reprogramming, and yet more changes to the rather fragile dispatcher.

 

Cold starts are actually perfectly possible in timetables - the problem is that the AI doesn't know how to start the trains up, and will happily drive them around despite them being off.

Will we ever get an update to the Editor that makes cooking possible? The editor was one of the most anticipated features of TSW4 and nobody is able to release stuff and we already have a huge amount of community content done and waiting for release lmao.

 

time will tell what the editor will bring i can say Dovetail will not Release everything they use when building there routes as some things need to be keeped inhouse would be nice to see cooking know

 

only if a 3rd party came into the fold but many have talked about this for years u can never say never as they have done NZ in Train Sim Classic so we will see u cant say no because there is never a no in the world of Video gaming if someone is dedicated to delivering something that is worth while having in TSW then Australia or any other country that is not in the world of TSW could happen down the track

 

Nobody asks them to release any of their own assets or anything. But isn't it super ironic that the Editor was supposed to be a selling point of TSW4 but actually you can't release (therefore actually create) content with it? Like what am I supposed to do with the editor if it can't do that? Just build stuff for fun without ever being able to use it. I appreciate the other fixes coming with the update but what the hell is this, honestly. Theres no mention of the cooking feature coming anywhere. Are they afraid that the community publishes content that has better quality than theirs? Somebody enlighten me please.

"Distribute for free" is not a legal defense to infringement. It happens because corps don't bother suing individual modders with no money.
