So I'm sorry if I missed this during preview stream but why isn't ECM terminating at Kings Cross? It's literally two stations after Peterborough. Also don't know why I didn't noticed it till today.
There are 22 Stations between KX and Peterborough, and a whole 76 Miles to create. It's a whole route's worth.
If think you will find it is a little more than just two stations, it isn't 80 miles of nothing! Personally I wish it had gone to York as it makes more sense operationally than Doncaster but it is what it is i'm afraid.
I must say the whole idea of ending at Peterborough is incredibly strange, but it would take much, much more work to bring it. I do find it odd that they didn't go to York with this route though, but hey ho!
5 stations, 80 miles, a new train. What more could you possibly ask for? ECML doesn't need Kings Cross to be the ECML.
Agree with others York would have made much more sense. How unreal it would have been if TSW4 launched with London KX to York eh. Now that would have been impressive. Wonder how profits would have compared if they done it with a higher cost, imagine a good number of folk would be attracted to it with a long trip like that, but hey ho dreamland by the looks of it.
Round about 40 miles. But not including it becomes a problem if they decide to go further north on the ECML.
33.5 miles Personally I can see why it didn’t go to York, did hope it would but nothing I can do, hopefully that can be rectified by the next TSW northern section above the current to start in Doncaster and not York in order to not leave that section a possible miss forever. I could probably see TSW for ECML being this below, some probably should be more but size wise I don’t think that’s going to be a TSW reality. Edinburgh to Berwick Berwick to Durham Durham to Doncaster Doncaster to Peterborough Peterborough to London
Peterborough to London would be a massive amount of work and worthy of a whole route in its own so I understand them ignoring it. I think they wanted a high-speed experience rather than focusing on a Thameslink stopping route. Doncaster to York however has no stations, is predominantly double track through unremarkable flat countryside ending with a short 4 track run into York itself. There aren't even really any yards to model as most are north of York. This would make more sense to me.
It's still almost 80 miles of mainline running between Peterborough and Doncaster. Not a bad amount of distance.
Let’s hope if DTG revisit the ECML, we get Doncaster to York. Better yet, they could even make the route more interesting by allowing players to go to Leeds too.
For me the trouble with some TSW routes, especially compared to TSC routes is some of the end points are illogical. I realise you are unlikely to get a full length mainline in TSW, but I prefer routes which end at major stations or large stations where services end or crew trains are likely, York is such a place. This is why some of the shorter "one train" routes often feel more immersive to me as they have logical services.
