I apologise, I couldn’t let this wicked conspiracy continue in the shadows.

My lips are sealed about the loco polls.

You haven't told them the 187 is rigged to win, right?

You really are making this into a storm in a bloody teacup. Just take a chill pill and see it as it is, please, there is no need for the scepticism you are displaying here.

They've started a bit early seemingly, but I'm doubling your vote for half predicting the mess. +1 to Dresden!

(This does not count as rigging.
    Even if it might be.)

I did take part in this poll and see nothing wrong with it.

I do not take part in real elections, referendums I would yes provided I have a reason to or it’s fits a cause doing or not doing so, but general elections is an absolute right off for me, that is unless I go to spoil my vote but not sure if I would waste time in the day to do that.

Interesting... all three routes are a network with multiple trains in the package rather than a simple A to B route with a single train... DTG could take a hint.

What can say, variety is key.

Obviously exceptions apply, but only for the minority.

Blackpool is the most immersive by far. SEHS still struck down with FPS issues for me on the PS5. Still an enjoyable dlc though.

I agree having multiple trains in the package is a big factor. That’s where - in the UK - going back a few years really helps. On the modern railway most trains only operate in one area (sometimes on only one route), so there’s very little opportunity to include trains which were originally built for another route. In an earlier era most locos/units ran across large swathes of the country, so we get - for example - BPO with its vast array of motive power.

For me though, I like the routes because they’re well made, rather than because they’re a network. My preference is a good length run, between points which are of a reasonable size (so feel realistic as Driver relief points) - i.e. avoiding ‘nowhere to nowhere’ like Peak Forest.

So for example, for less mileage than the BPO ‘network’ we could have had Bolton to Blackpool North. For less mileage than the SEHS network we could have had London Victoria - Faversham. Personally I would have preferred that. The risk with the push for ‘networks’ is developers start artificially trying to create networks which are lots of little bits of line, at the expense of having decent length runs. The worst example of that is Midland Mainline, with its two 20 minute hops. A single route with a proper 40 minute run would be much better.

Looking forward to the Loco/Train World Cup.

I intend to take it very seriously. If my favorite loco doesn't win, I'll finally stop believing in Santa Claus.

I have started compilining the list of trains for the 2nd half of the WC, and it takes longer than you think.
Especially when deciding what is/isn't eligible, which versions to pick (thanks, Dovetail.) and so forth.

And I haven't even remotely decided on the format.

I want to post something, but I worry it would be taken the wrong way.

All I can say is it's hilarious how seriously certain members are taking this and at the same time not surprising at all.

I think the Blackpool route is a worthy winner because no one else has come close to putting that much care and attention into a route in TSW history apart from TSG. The extra liveries, the whistles in Preston, the variety, the layers. They included the other 47 and 08 along with their new one with updates. I dont personally think its bias. I think that honestly in terms of quality and value for money its unrivalled in the TSW catalogue.

SEHS is good dont get me wrong but even that doesn't quite have the care and attention JT put into BPO. JT went the extra mile with everything on that route and it really shows. :)

Your fears about this are unfounded. This can be seen from the ages of the other routes that got to the final and how the latest release, Maintalbahn, was knocked out early on. There was very little love for that route but if your theory that its recent release was a factor then it should have done much better. It didn’t and that is down to it not being so good.

It is clear to see that Blackpool is a very good route and would be a worthy winner. I’d say it would be doing just as well if it had been released two years ago. It’s because of the quality and how it is closer to what many people would like TSW to be that makes it top dog.

What would anyone do about your concerns on this anyway? Deduct some votes because it is new? Not have it entered? I don’t see how that would be fair, although it may have allowed your favourite route to win, which is what this is probably all about.

I strongly doubt they ever would, i can’t think of much reason it would effect the developers and I doubt the upper management have an interest in inadvertently displaying officially the add on with the perceived poorest reputation, that’s before mentioning the business controversy of 3rd Party play in that kind of poll/competition.

I doubt it would look good if the main company is either officially stating its community response is either more negative towards their product than 3rd party or otherwise displaying the flaws of 3rd party type stuff.

It seems like Blackpool is winning and honestly I think it deserves to considering how much love and attention to detail went into creating it.

JT really raised the bar when it comes to route creation, plus they added a train that was highly requested by the community.

Blackpool Branches is also a complete route out of the box without any layers necessary since you get the Pacer, 47 and 08 (with multiple liveries I might add) and a ton of service variety.

SEHS despite being one of the most popular routes is let down by mediocre scenery on the HS1 section and Dresden is fine but you need a lot of dlc to make the route feel busy.

Overall I think Blackpool is a worthy winner and I wish that every route released from now on would have the same mark of quality (unlikely!)

Do you? Apart from freight loco substitution, I think only the IC and ICE services are layered in (apart from the few Vectron services). They certainly add, but the route is busy regardless. Certainly in comparison to something like HRR, which is almost dead without MSB and the 101.

I would just like to thank trainsimplayer for arranging the contest. It was quite good fun, reminded of the fantasy football I sometimes used to play at work.

Same again this time next year, please!

Absolutely agree! Fantastic fun and would love to see it become an annual end-of-year thing, particularly given how a different draw could give very different results in the earlier stages.

This poll tells me two things:
    1. My fellow forum members have great taste!
    2. The holy Grail for DTG is to combine the scenery of BPO and the in the cab experience of the Pacer with the service variety and timetable complexity of SEHS and DRA.

    Ladies and Gentlemen.
    The first half is over!

The Route Phase of the TSW World Cup has been rounded up and the results have been handed to me.

    3rd Place - Dresden-Riesa - 57 Votes
The top German route falls to third place, despite the bonus vote added for solicitr.

Regardless, it's a very strong performance for Dresden-Riesa, and is a testament to it's quality and variety.

    2nd Place - Southeastern Highspeed - 60 Votes
Southeastern Highspeed, with it's extensions and multitude of rolling stock, comes in a strong second, just ahead of DRA.

Had this been the TSW2 SEHS, I imagine it would have been near the bottom. I think this does show what difference variety (i.e. longer HS runs on HS1, or the Dartford-Gravesend runs, or even Thameslink) makes.

    1st Place - Blackpool Branches - 89 Votes
Ladies and Gentlemen of the TSW Forum, it is with great pleasure that I announce that the winner of the TSW (Route) World Cup, is BLACKPOOL BRANCHES!

Once again, a route with great variety - in terms of both service pattern and rolling stock, (Hmm...) and it's a route that has been incredibly well crafted by the Just Trains team.

    Untitled331_20231219121114.png

Thank you to everyone who has participated in this fun little festive-season contest. I do hope it was fun.

Stick around for the Loco World Cup - it'll be even more chaotic.
And to be clear. The Loco World Cup isn't serious either ;)

certainly is, I can’t believe the poll was rigged against it in the final round for it, I’m going to have to start a thread about how DTG just simply don’t care for . routes, proper England favouritism from upper management with this ;)

Brilliant result! Just goes to show that backdated routes are popular if the scenery and timetable are up to scratch!
