Hello everyone, I'm currently building a map starting from Mönchengladbach in the following directions: - Krefeld main station - Düsseldorf airport station - Cologne main station It took me a lot of work to create the lidar files. In this post I would like to keep you updated about my project. Only time will tell whether it goes further towards Aachen or Koblenz. First of all, I'll build the basic structure if the PC editor cooperates.
This is one ambitious project! Thank you for taking this on. It seems to be a project to be worked on in stages, as I would assume you will finish one branch after the other… In this case, may I propose to also consider the connections between those branches, like Neuss to Krefeld, or Neuss to Grevenbroich or Cologne?! It would add a lot of gameplay possibilities around cargo, for example, but also regional services. I just like the idea of a wide map, with many possibilities into all directions. There are other community projects in this area, like Düsseldorf to Cologne. Maybe it makes sense to bundle your energy and possibly merge at some point?! Anyway, good luck and I wish you a lot of perseverance. Looking forward to this…
Good luck with the route have you also considered Mönchengladbach Venlo. That gets complicated around Venlo area due to the German signal system 15kv meeting the Dutch system 1.5kv DC
Thank you, today I will first lay the basic framework for the routes mentioned (i.e. to Lidar etc.) Maybe even individual tracks starting from and to Mönchengladbach main station. At the moment I'm generating the individual tiles and then linking them to the lidar files. I don't know yet whether there will be a route at least towards Venlo.
Branches Neuss, Grevenbroich or Krefeld are planned. I'll have to see how I can make this happen. First, as already mentioned, I put together the basic framework.
The Cologne - Aachen route yes, but not from Krefeld to Aachen. This is the RB33. Cologne - Aachen is the RE1
Ah, okay. Sounds neat. A route with so many different directions to choose from would be a dream come true on the German side of things
The first tracks for Mönchengladbach Hbf are in place. Now it's time for the platforms and the modeling of them. Then the signals and the continuation of the routes. As soon as there is news about construction progress, I will share it here.
I realized that it is better to model the train station in Blender first. Therefore, I will now first model the station building plus the platforms and only then will I continue to work on the tracks and have to lay them again in order to adapt them to the platforms. Here you can see the beginning of the model, I'm currently working on the exterior of Mönchengladbach train station before I model the station hall and stairs to the platforms.

Steffi, I would also like to give you another very important advice, which I just can't hold back any longer seeing your own plans but also all the posts here wanting you to do even more extensions. When I asked you if you would do an extension to Koblenz at the moment you had the Lidar problem, I asked to get to know whether you might have a similar problem with the Lidar data from Rheinland-Pfalz like I had. I didn't want to suggest you to create this path. This is an important difference. One thing I learned in the last days is that route and especially scenery creation is not that easy as you might think at the moment. I already saw that you planned your route very ambitously with many branches to all different places. But really try a short portion of the railway first and rebuilt it with all aspects (tracks, signals, PZB magnets and Overhead wiring (if applicable), building and environment assets, vegetation etc.). Try to create a small landscape and scenery first and only then you're be able to decide if you really can finish this project as planned for now. Please don't overlook this concern and underestimate the work associated already with your project how it was even initially planned. That's probably the most important advice I can give to everyone who wants to create their own routes. Take the amount of work seriously. It will expose to you once you're at a certain point of the progress and will be much more than you initially thought of. 100% guarentee on that. But don't feel intimidated now, it's just a true word of mine I liked to share after my experience and my understanding of the dimensions of your project. I wish you best luck for your project!
