Dtg Are We Waiting For Tsw5

I'm talking about routes that include multiple forms of motive power included for free, not as separate add-ons.

I doubt I would buy a TSW5, this has gone far enough. I'm playing many more hours on Railroader, TSC and Trainz 22 now. Generally I play UK and US content most of the time because of the repetitive German content, and whilst the UK is fine the US content is a bit of an insult to you guys in all honesty. Free roam is cool but I don't see much else they can add to improve the game except keep churning out the routes which seem to be getting shorter and more boring. The only real bright spot going forward is Just Trains. More American content is sorely needed, especially freight. I'd like to see retro freight routes done as well. America has a fine heritage of freight railroads. To say they are not doing those is crazy, look how well that recent release Railroader, concentrating on a short line mostly freight railroad, has done. Why not jump on the bandwagon and do that? Probably because it would take too many man hours to research and consequently would not earn them fast money is probably the answer.

 

There is no tsw5 that is announced or on the roadmap so nobody knows

 

The question “DTG Are we waiting on TSW5?” Has nothing to do with the corporate plans if you diagram the sentence. The OP seems to asking DTG if “we” are waiting for the next release number. Personally, I could not care less either way. I am enjoying the franchise at the moment. Are there things that could be fixed/ improved - Sure! Are there new features I would like to see added? Of course. Am I waiting on TSW5? No. If they release another rendition, will have to evaluate what value is has to me, if I see something I like or want, will probably buy it… if not, I won’t. So it doesn’t really matter to me one way or another.

 

For some reason, people seem to believe this is fact despite there being no evidence to the contrary.

 

With the perpetual wait for fixes and for many people the wait for a route or feature that actually lives up to the marketing and their own expectations it isn’t that surprising that people will ask the questions posed in this thread. I’ve actually gone to put a long US train on a different US route in free roam only to remember the issues with constant alarms and initial setup from the last time and just decided to do something else instead. I am under no illusion that this and many other issues that prevent me enjoying the game in the way DTG have said I can in articles will remain for a long time and some may never be fixed. That is from my experience of being a TSW player for a long time and is one of the many frustrations that come up time and time again on the forum and that we live with and try to work around. On the other hand there are some trains which work perfectly in free roam and therefore the feature does work just not well enough.

Are we waiting for TSW5 for fixes to some issues? I fear we may actually be waiting much longer. One thing that makes me completely ignore the livery design tools in TSW is that I know they don’t automatically carry over to the next iteration of the game, which is against my expectation of this franchise being an ongoing concern where everything I currently have will remain with me over time. That isn’t the reality for me so I’m not going to waste time making a detailed livery (and it would take me a long time because I’m not that skilled) for it to only remain useable until TSW5 is released and I move to using that as the game’s ongoing base. The same goes for scenarios too. I will make some of them for instances where free roam doesn’t work but just as a temporary play idea and not something I’ve worked hard on to make realistic. I’ll just stick to things I have found to be working well enough for me instead.

I hope they don't make a TSW 5, instead I hope they make like a rush hour type of thing but we'll most probably get a new game.

 

Didn't we say that with TSW 4 and all we got was new Rian effects, photo mode and that's all I remember what new features came with TSW 4.

 

Actually, with a short look in the editor section, I guess, it wouldn't be a very smart move by DTG to add such relevant changes to TSW that it would rectify a complete new version. I mean, it would be some punch in the stomach, developing something for TSW4 and then when they are nearly done the job, they have to rebuild their creations to TSW5 standards (just thinking about this preservation crew there once was...). Or let's take a look at the train operating companies, do they replace their rolling stock every year, just because the classes iterations of this year are muuuuch better than last year's?...Nah, not a good idea.

 

TSW5 won't be developed anytime soon especially on a new engine.

They're not stupid enough to make the editor useless.

 

One thing is clear, whatever and whenever it is, TSW5 base version needs to be a free upgrade for existing players like TSW3 was, and like TSC is. Demanding yet another paid upgrade given the amount of broken features and major unfixed bugs would definitely not go down well, and could even be their undoing, commercially.

Umm, TSW3 was NOT a free upgrade. You had to buy it, exactly like TSW2 or TSW4.

 

If TSW3 was free, and I paid for it, that means DTG have scammed me (and everyone else who bought it), which is illegal.

According to DTG's track record... everyone will be surprised. Because they promised us reworked suspension for aTSW4 and we still don't have it. Maybe reworked suspension in TSW5, and multiplayer in TSW7?

Sorry I was getting mixed up with TSW2. For 3 the cheapest option was the base upgrade pack which still required a modest layout, but the whole concept of leaving people on older versions kind of sucks. Why can’t they just propose a rush hour type multi-route package to help with the cash flow, but keep players on the same base version, à la TSC.

it’s the same with sales, if you buy it before or after, it doesn’t mean you got scammed because you missed out on that offer.

 

The original post that started this discussion had no illusion to it being free after release. Instead it alluded that TSW3 was free at release.

 

I think it’s common knowledge to know TSW3 wasn’t free at release, the store page would state the price and refund if it was an error.

if you choose to purchase, you always pay the price it is at the time.

Either way, if something is marketed as free, but is to be paid for, that is a scam.

Would probably be if that was the case (or a mistake that gets rectified) but of course wasn’t for this case, I’m not sure why the other user thought it was.

 

it seems a new iteration makes more sales than what would essentially be another a dlc.

though DTG will also lose out by locking out those that don’t pay for it, whether that is more or less is not information I’m privy to. Regardless it would also be very difficult to calculate if not impossible.

personally I’ve never thought the continuation of dlc to the amount TSW has and potentially will have would work profitably, dlc for most games is often limited, whereas TSW it’s essentially the main part, which whilst it works as an implementation method, I ain’t convinced it works as a long term sales method.

With a new "release" of tsw each year for it self, i have not a problem.

But the usual dtg approach is their sucessful hype followed by a even bigger mess.

- formation designer?? (Already forgotten?)
- suspension physics? (Is it coming now or not?
- older tsw dlcs broken, silence from dtg (absolute NoGo)
- substitution broken caused probably by the addon manager (absolute nogo)
- mods not working anymore (absolute nogo)

Yes TSW 4 has a lot of good things, but my annoyance clearly dominates at my side. TSW 4 isnt even installed anymore.

Wow DTG you manage to repeate mistakes not just twice, but even over and over.
Keeping away my wallet and my time from such companies!

The point is that the yearly upgrades for Train Simulator have been completely free. Somebody who bought the game in 2009 and hadn't touched it since then would still be on the latest update released in the past few weeks. Up until recently when the Update of Doom came out, DTG had a nearly flawless record in the past few years for TS updates while TSW... hadn't and doesn't. The updates for TSW should be free, as otherwise bug fixes, some of which have been promised for years, are paywalled.

I'm not sure if you're one of the people who believes this nonsense, but there are certain people in this community who will buy new versions of TSW regardless of their quality and the moral grey area they sit in, then insult those who want the updates that they were promised for the existing versions of the game as they 'want everything for free', despite TS running on that philosophy for more than a decade. It is crucial to remember that we as customers are not here to fund DTG or pay their staff. It is the management's job to pay their staff and to turn a profit, not ours. The job we have is customers is to evaluate the cost of the products they make and buy it if they are of a satisfactory value and/or quality. For me, it's been a number of years since I last felt I was getting a good deal with TSW. The choice I have is £30 for a TSW route which may not be very good anyway, but also has a high chance of not working when I get it and a high chance of it not working properly next year, with few exceptions. Alternatively, I could spend around half that on a very high quality and bug-free loco pack for Train Simulator... I don't mind it when people enjoy stuff for TSW (although in plenty of cases I do wonder why!) but it is impossible to blame somebody for buying the latter.
