British Railways built 9 classes of steam locos that were an effort to standardize locomotives from the motley collection of older pre-grouping locos. 999 of these locomotives were built and 46 are preserved and 2 classes are extinct but 2 new members are planned to be built (BR Standard 2 Tank converted into a Standard 3 Tank and BR Standard 6 built new and will be the 1,000th member). The first engine of the BR Standards was built in 1951 but some consider the W.D. Austerity 2-8-0 and 2-10-0 were the first BR engines.

    Engines

    BR Standard 2
    First BR Standard/Smallest BR Standard
    65 built
4 preserved ‘78018 And 78019 kept at GCR’ ‘78022 at KWVR’ and ‘78059/84030 (Standard 3) at the Bluebell Railway’
    Nicknamed ‘Mickey Mouse’
Based of LMS Ivatt Class 2
    2 cylinders
Top speed: Unknown (I can’t find anything of the speed)
    200 psi

    upload_2024-1-6_0-55-12.png
    BR Standard 5
    Fastest BR Standard
    Top speed 100 MPH
    172 built
5 survive ‘73156 at GCR’ ‘73050 at NVR’ ‘73082 at Bluebell’ ‘73096 at MHR’ ‘73129 at Butterly’
    2 Cylinders
Based of LMS Stanier Black 5
    225 psi

    upload_2024-1-6_1-10-11.png
    BR Standard 9
    Strongest and Largest BR Standard
Last Steam engine built by BR ‘92220 Evening Star’ 1960 Swindon
    Top speed 90 MPH
251 built primary for freight but used for Passenger services as well
9 survive ‘92214 at GCR’ ‘92203 at NNR’ ‘92134 at NYMR’ ‘92220 at NRM’ ‘92212 At MHR’ ‘92240 at Bluebell’ ‘92219 at Strathspey’ ‘92245 at Barry and giving boiler to 92212’
    250 psi
    Based on Austerity 2-10-0

These locos could layer onto SoS and PFR and even the WSR for the steam gala
I chose these so we can have a variety of locos and see the difference between power like the Standard 2 would haul smaller trains than the 9F

and not a Brit?! Not quite setting a standard!

All jokes aside - I would love to see the Standards in game. TBA there is A LOT of steam locomotives I would love to see come to TSW

I was think about the Britannias to replace the 9Fs but I honestly just don’t know why I didn’t include them. I think the Britannias would be a better fit for the pack.
The 7MTs would be a great inclusion even if it is Britannia and Oliver Cromwell in a railtour pack.

Or this could be like a pack of a series of packs like ‘Cargo Line’ for example
Standard 2 and Standard 3 sold in one pack
Standard 4 and Standard 5 sold in a different pack
Standard 7 and Standard 8 ‘Duke of Gloucester’ sold in another one
Standard 9 (9F) and maybe the Crosti boiler version as well

I believe this is the Peak District

I didn’t include the BR Standard 6 only because they worked primarily in Scotland

Include the Brits and I'm sold, though I would be sold anyway. Personally apart from the Gresley stuff the Stds are some of my favourite steamers so would be great to have them in game.

The Brits have a charm that no one can refuse.
I have my favourites designs from the Big 4 but I still can’t decide which ones I prefer the Standard 9 or 7

I do think one route needs to be included in 1967 and have IT57 as a scenario and the Britannia as the new loco and have Oliver Cromwell in the IT57 scenario

    I thinks it’s because I have good/strong memories of 9Fs when I was younger

Ah fair enough, I am just a bit too young to be able remember steam proper, I do wish I were born a few years earlier to be able to witness the A4s, A3s, Brits, V2s, etc before the diesels came. My father were a fireman and he always liked the brits so I think that has a lot to do with why I like them though.

The steam era would have been lovely to see in person but I meant in preservation (sorry for any confusion). My Granddad built a miniature 4F and that’s probably the reason I like the Fowler 4F.

It's alright, I just felt a dark shadow of age loom over me! ;)
Like I say I do wish I were born a decade or so earlier in this sense, but I suppose you can't change that. Is it a working model, or a display piece? That sounds great though.

Wow! That does sound great, were you the one who put something on the model railways thread, I seem to remember something akin to this being shown on there not too long ago.

Yes, I thought I recognised it when you said it. I went through the loft late last year and found a bunch of old pictures, and it is weird how happy and nostalgic they can make you feel. Are those traction engines runners too?

Yes we ran them in late August last year for our club’s 50th anniversary and they haven’t ran since primarily because the Burrell’s (blue) was having issues with her flywheel and whatnot but the Allchin (red) had no problem except that me and my cousin were left to handle her and first run we ran out of steam and then our last attempt we (I) shoved to much coal in so we couldn’t start her up again but I will say we barely knew what we were doing.

That is just brilliant mate, sounds like a great experience. I suppose you have got to get some things wrong to get them right in the future, you'll know exactly what not to do next time!
Like I say that does sound absolutely brilliant mate.

Sorry for taking the thread off topic but I have found this really fascinating!

I love looking at old pictures and thinking how much has changed and that I will still remember that.
My local railway is the GCR and every time I go there I just have a wave of nostalgia because I grew up here and my train addiction came from here and my Grandad. I was at the GCR before I traveled on the Midland Mainline.
I love seeing engines from my childhood like 92214 and I still love seeing 48305 because the engine was used for her sounds and I still love just spawning and deleting 8Fs in TSW4 until I get 48305

Yes, I really enjoy just comparing places as they are now against 10,15 20, plus years ago.
As I say my dad were a fireman and later driver, and we lived alongside the ECML so I know exactly what you mean: the sound of a Deltic just makes me feel like a child again. It's funny how things from our earliest years still influence us later on. I never really took numbers but there were one Deltic 55007, 'Pinza' which just seemed to always pop up so it is nice when I see that one in preservation.

Like I say, I found what you were saying really fascinating but I do know what you mean as I often feel the same, but don't feel bad mate this has been really interesting!

No sweat mate, clearly there are some rather dull people if they don't at least take some interest. Have you ever been to/have plans to go to any shows or is it just a casual thing, I think you mentioned being part of a club earlier. I were at a steam show in a village a few miles south of me a few months back and they had all sorts of stuff like these there which really fascinated me. I must admit I did spend a lot of time with the old tractors being from a farming village though!

    What size are they roughly?

Quite large I would say like I have been to the midland model engineering show twice and another one which was like a vintage vehicle weekend in a field (I forgot where) but they had Traction Engines and lorries and buses that sort of stuff but I do go to my local club open day.
