hello, I bought TS some time ago and decided to run this route and create a scenario. I placed an AI train at station New Carrollton and got an error message, something about missing electric compatibility (only diesel could run there anyway). On closer inspection I noticed that catenary stopped somewhere between the stations New Carrollton and Seabrook, and further in the direction of Washington. This is a three track line completely electrified. This route came out in 2021 so surely electrified then. Why did DTG stop laying catenary? (see picture). I also find it difficult to imagine I am the only one noticing this to be honest. Is there a way to make the track from this point to Washington electrified myself? The catenary is more for looks as I understand, but the tracks have to be specified as electrified. How can I do this, and make a patch for this route for myself, I am not sure what Steam does in the background with a next update and I have to do it over again. I have no experience in the world editor, and also noticed that changes can't be set to 'no', only 'yes' and 'cancel' which means upon changes I want undone, I have to end trainsimulator in the taskmanager, which is not very elegant. Thanks for any help.
Not quite sure what you mean. The main track is electrified. Next to it at New Carrollton, are third rail electrified tracks belonging to the Metro Orange line. Checking, there's one track that's not electrified in TSC (Use the space key to cycle for track properties display until you're in electrification mode) You can electrify it by selecting the "Select Tool", placing a ribbon and set the Electrification type in the flyout. (Catenary itself is only for the visuals) Yellow is third rail, white is overhead, black is not electrified. When editing a DLC route, use the "Clone" function and don't work on the original. Steam will not touch that route you created then. Make backups of that route folder you're working on. (Folder path is shown in the "Build" menu.) So go along that track and drag the ribbon. If you're done, you can apply the changes to the original route by just copying your "tracks.bin" to the original route. (Create a folder "Networks" next to the "MainContent.ap" and put the modded tracks.bin there. Same for Scenery changes, make a "Scenery" folder and place modded tiles there) I don't know why that track was left unelectrified, but could be it actually was in the time depicted. Anyway, that track branches off into a portal.
Thank you for your elaborate answer. I may give it a try, and make a clone then. I also wanted to add some scenery on another route to see how that goes, so I need to make a clone. The principle of making improvements to a route as in the Steam Workshop is a different concept not for standalone sort of use. As for this problem, I did a close look at this video (train around 7:55 min) This train is the only one in this video that goes to Washington (direction) and is electric on this track, all other locomotives on that track are diesel. There is however a switch to go from one of the electrified platforms at New Carrollton to go to this (electrified) track, and this is what that train is undoubtedly coming from, and not from the "black" track you point out in your pictures. That was I assuming, error on my part. For some reason part of this track is not electrified, but trains switch after New Carrollton, before Seabrook. So it is indeed used by diesel locomotives, for that one exception shown in the video passing Seabrook.
A lot of errors are caught only by testing, or scenarios. For example, when creating a scenario on the new PDL from London to Woking on the stopping track, it says there is missing electrification. Point being, it is likely just a mistake. Allowing community fixes could help resolving this issue.
