Hi all, apologies if I'm the millionth person to have asked this but I have one or two questions about free roam, just spawned a few trains on free roam, firstly i gather that you have to be traction specific, so an EMU won't work where there's not overhead lines or a 3rd rail, so I spawned a 166, then i spawned a 4 car 101 and a 4 car 142, for some reason I was unable to couple them, is there restrictions on coupling somehow? I haven't tried it before and thought I'd have a play with it.

some trains have no coded coupler compatibility. example: DB class 642 is not couplable with lets say an ICE, though they should work IRL as it's the same coupler type

They have different, incompatible couplers, and different (or in the case of the 101 no) electrical systems and gizmos to allow brakes to release so even if they were to have magically coupled you wouldn't be moving very far!

So it's a matter of trains with manual coupling should join together, say class 37 with a 101 for example? And electric coupling working with other electric coupling, so say, 387 and 465 etc?

It depends on the type of coupler the train has. In real life, I believe the couplers for UK trains are:

    Wedgelock - 1938 Stock, 1972 Stock, 484
    Screwlink - 08, 09, 20, 31, 33, 37, 40, 45, 47, 52, 66, 101, Fowler 4F, Jubilee 6P, Stanier 8F, Flying Scotsman
    Janney - 43, 66, Flying Scotsman
    Tightlock - 313, 314, 323, 465
    BSI - 142, 150, 158, 166
    Scharfenberg - ROG 37, 375, 377, 385, 387, 395, 700, 801

In-game, ones set to be compatible are:

    1938 Stock, 1972 Stock
Almost any screwlink with any other screwlink
Almost any Janney with any other Janney
    313, 314, 465
    142, 158
    ROG 37, 375, 377, 387, 700
    395, most German multiple units

150, 323, 385, 484 and 801 are set to not couple to anything other than same class of train in-game.

The 142 and 158 couple up and work fine, I think the plan was for the 150 to be modified so it could also couple up but I can't see that happening.
