I do not know if someone else has already seen this - as there are 16 pages!...- but this is a very interesting video - and channel - about trains.
I believe it is almost unique, as you clearly see how the driver operates the train in Germany!
    Which is not common!

In this case a BR146 with IC paint scheme.

There you can see how it operates the locomotive and its systems like AFB and LZB.
I have not seen all, but the one I did it, I noticed, he does not use SIFA .

    Hopes you like it!

    The best wishes for 2024!

Ooo. That's a bit scary. I wouldn't like that. I hate the sound of driverless trains. Not just because it makes alot of peoples jobs redundant, but also because there's no staff if something goes wrong.

I think I'd rather my train was driven by an actual person myself.

Miami International Airport also have driver-less trains.
It is a short trip taking you between airport terminals.
So it is a fast way to move around those big airports.

Madrid Barajas airport, it has also driver-less ones.
It is called APM = Automated People Mover.

The Dubai Metro, is also driver-lees one too.
There you have to pay attention to enter on men's wagons.
As they have separate ones for women.

That must have been terrifying for the driver.

Sounds cruel, but at least he isn't alive and suffering.

Driver has got lucky there, would have had no chance of getting out the way in a 158/170. I just hope he isn't too shaken though as it is not the nicest of things to happen. ASLEF will jump on this like nothing else.

Aye, I really hope he gets the help he needs with the trauma that must come with something like that. Scary thing is, one of my pals got invited into the cab to blow the horn on the exact power car the day before!!

From the looks of it, it was quite a horrific accident. Saw it on the new last night as well. Trains across Scotland were suffering as well but I think it's safe to say that HST got the worst of it.

Yes, that is one of the worst looking tree strikes I've seen, up there with one on a FGW HST a few year back which were similar to this. Touch wood (genuinely no pun intended) he'll be alright and back on the rails soon though this looks very much like a case of escaping death by a very small margin, so it is not just a tree strike, and so it will have certainly been a bigger shock for him.

Yes, that HST could well be done for, depending on whether SR see it as economical to repair and in different conditions we could be talking about the death of the driver which is not a good thing. We can't compare how a 158/170 would have reacted, however I can almost guarantee ASLEF will use this in their case to get rid of the HSTs, which although sad, may well be for the best in the long run, but who knows. I always felt safe enough up front in a HST, but I can see why SR drivers are turning against them after the incidents since they went up there. Who knows what will happen though.

What could be more economical is they just replace the cab by taking it off another one as I think there is about 4 power cars in storage and it is possible to take the hole cab off in fact they do it in some exams.

That would be a right killer for you mate! That's what I would have thought they would do, providing it hasn't bent or broke something else. I reckon they probably will get it back in traffic, because as far as I am aware SR have no plans to get rid of the HSTs before their lease expires in 2027/8 (can't remember which!).

Some photos from Taumaranui railway station in New Zealand. The coaches and cab cars are ex Auckland Transport, who dumped them here in 2016, which has made the locals very unhappy. Some of the coaches have been refurbished for use on the Te Huia and Capital Connection trains and some where sold to Mozambique. At the moment most of the ones in Taumaranui are owned by kiwirail, with the rest being owned by the goldfields heritage railway. Kiwirail is going to move them away next month, with the Goldfield ones presumably going to them, and the kiwirail ones presumably being either scrapped or moved to somewhere for future refurbishment.

I also saw a road-rail vehicle come past, it's not what I was expecting when I saw some lights in the distance, but it was a pleasant surprise.

I think SR are paying for hsts untill 2030 so you would think they would keep them untill then but this is the modern railway we are talking about and aslef are constantly trying to get rid of them so you never know.

Really, I haven't heard anything, anywhere of any plans for their replacement. The rumour is apparently 222s but I feel that is more of an educated guess than anything else.
2030, I didn't realise it were going on that long! I have heard they are keeping them until the lease runs out so that would make sense, I just clearly had the wrong date in my head. I think it depends on the pressure that ASLEF put on SR as to whether they will cave or not. When they do go though I think I will have to go up and just see one last HST as it will be sad to see them leave frontline service however old they may be.

I do think all joking aside that a driver has a lot more chance surviving a crash like the one this week in an hst rather than a 158 as you have a big cab and an engine room to run into.

100% agree, I haven't ever been in a 158 cab, but I would certainly choose to be in a cab of a HST than a 158 in this situation. As I think I said above it likely would have been a fatality if the driver didn't get out the way.

    Wensleydale Railway - 28th December 2023.
On this day, Wensleydale Railway ran a one day special diesel hauled service between Leeming Bar and Leyburn.
There were 3 services in total that day and lots of people turned out to see guest loco 47701 haul the trains.
47701 has been on loan from Nemesis rail and was used on several Polar Express services along with Black 5 45407 'The Lancashire Fusilier'.
Here we see 47701 at Leeming Bar at the end of the day.

    20231228_162254.JPG
Here we see 47701 departing Leeming Bar on the 12pm service to Leyburn

Also, there was a bonus for me during the day. I was able to ride in the cab of 47701 during the final service of the day.

Had a lovely visit to the wonderful Swiss city of Zurich recently - certainly one of my most favourite places I've ever been too. As a big fan of Swiss railways, it was great to see all the different types of rolling stock from the Zurich S-Bahn to long-distance, high-speed services.

Here are lots of pictures, enjoy!

I'd really like to visit Switzerland some day. My wife went with a tour group a few years ago before we were married and spent some time at the Luzern train station. When she returned she brought me back Swiss chocolate and a bunch of railway maps and timetables. She was very proud of herself that she brought me Swiss chocolate from a Swiss train station... to this day if she sees me running out of Luzern in TSW she'll turn to me and proclaim, "Look Jesse, that's where I got your chocolate and maps from!" LOL

Absolutely worth it, beautiful place, friendly and helpful locals, lots of interesting variety between the different German/French/Italian-speaking regions and, of course, an awesome railway network! :)

    Haha nice one. :D

Great video from the cab, of new Class 802 Hitachi "hybrid" electric + diesel train, from London King's Cross to Hull!
Is long but it is really worth it!
Due to all the details of the route are mentioned, plus some historic and interesting data.

Furthermore related with TSW4, this route includes the LNER trains, and the part included on the simulator!
So you can see Peterborough to Doncaster as it is in real life.

You will see the Hull train running by electric and diesel only modes.

    Is a Don Coffey video:

One thing it payed my attention:
When the train arrives at Hull, it was used a track and platform where there is already another train!.
Being the side ones - and others - empty.
    Do you know the reason?

    Hopes you like it!

Firsts tests of the brand new company "Porttren" , on the brand new route in Uruguay.
They purchased brand new Euro Stadler 4001 6 axle diesel locomotives, for transporting from a cellulose plant of Findland's company, to the port in Montevideo.(The capital city)
The operator is a mix of companies, including some from Uruguay, but also DB from Germany.
All the train drivers were trained in Germany.

They will have 8 runs on each directions per day.
In the coming months, other private companies will be operating new trains there too, both freight and passenger ones!.
Some of them have also purchased the same Stadler 4001 model.
The route it has all the latest train's technologies, about software and signalling, and GPS control of the trains. All digitized with fiber optics.
