The Trans-Pennine route between Leeds and Manchester was, and still is, a key passenger link for local residents and city workers – however in its heyday it was also a vital corridor for freight traffic.

Enter the BR Heavy Freight Pack, which is coming soon to Train Sim World!

(Ah, yet again that game file was right... you really gotta start hiding these better, DTG!)

This looks great! I also like how we get two variants of the class 40, that will add a lot of nice variety!

I also note that the windows on the side of the class 40 do in fact appear transparent.

Great weathering on the two locos, fits the era and the other locos on NTP.

Saw no mention of this in the article, but I am assuming we will be able to use the class 47 on these freight services too, right? And possibly the class 40 on lower-priority passenger?

I don't know about the class 47, but Matt said this about the class 40, and seeing what they did with the German routes it is likely there will be some substitutions on locos for NTP aswell.

In the winter screenshot the trees don’t have leaves. Is this new to the route?

Great to see freight arriving on Northern Trans-Pennine! The weathering on the locos looks very good and it is a nice addition to have two variants of the Class 40. Will this be priced at the usual £11.99 or will it cost more since there are 2 locomotives?

It's 2 locos if you don't have the Tees Valley Line. Besides, we've been expected to pay full price for routes with reused locos in the past, so it's hard to tell how this one will be priced.

If it's full price then they'll lose sales, this is a loco dlc not a route tbf. I reckon they'll stick to the £11.99 price

I'm certain they won't go full route price, but they could also try something in between, like £14.99 or something. I hope they go for the base £11.99 / $19.99 price, though- I won't buy it for any higher, even though it looks great.

Well there's a couple of new wagons as well so perhaps it'll be a bit more than a loco dlc bt nt as much as a new route. We'll just have to wait and see.

I'd be ok with £14.99. Any more than that and it's a wait for a sale

The 40s were regular performers on Trans-Pennine passenger workings. Is it possible to amend the game so that the service menu has the option to work the passenger services with the 40? Conversely will the freight services have the option to be 47 hauled as many were?

It is 100% possible, and similar "substitution" has been implementd on all other loco DLC to date, so I would be surprised if this was an exception, but we don't have any confirmation, although the class 40 on passenger workings has been mentioned once and was being "looked into" (which was also interesting because that was before the class 40 was announced, but we still knew about it since it was in the game files).

TrainSim-Matt or TrainSim-Dmitri, will the class 47 be usable on freight trains? What about the class 40 on passenger services? Basically, what substitution will be at work here?

Class 40 on passenger would be good especially with some leaky steam heating effects.

They were certainly working passenger turns on the NTP in 1983 but I suspect not as common as the 45 and 47 would have been. I don't know whether there is a "percentage" of turns which can be set when putting the services in, personally speaking it would be great if they didn't turn up on passenger so much as the other two loco's as it would be a nice surprise when one does!

What happened to a bit of variety in TSW? Not everyone likes 1980s diesel. How about some steam or electric traction for a change?

We're not just talking variety across different themes, we're talking variety within them as well. There were 3 electric DLC earlier this year, all in a row in fact (as for steam, they haven't figured out how to actually make that yet).

They're releasing more DLC, but they seem to be releasing in groups. That doesn't mean that other stuff isn't coming in any way whatsoever.

Did you complain about all the modern routes in TS1 or is it acceptable if it is your favourite era?

Steam appears to be still some way off but I am sure it will come at some point, there are no steam engines for a reason and I am certain that reason isn't because DTG doesn't want to produce steam! I think steam will really showcase the new sim and I am sure DTG know that.

Have you not noticed all the modern German and USA electric traction?

We get two 1980's in a row and suddenly for some it's a major disaster!

I am enjoying the variety we have so far and looking forward to more in the future including I am sure some more modern routes.

Watch last week's devstream (the 10th anniversary one). Matt says in that video that the sticking point is NOT that they don't know how or that it's really difficult in theory, but that in being as detailed as they have been it makes it a really difficult thing to do in the game so they're having to be "less complex whilst retaining the detail" etc etc so people might actually be able to move kettles in game without it being too overbearing.

I haven't seen it yet, I will try and catch it tonight as well as the TVL stream. I suppose it is getting that fine balance between what is acceptable for those craving to detail and complexity and those wanting something easier and less complex.

I don't know if they could implement easy and advanced settings as some of the TS1 steamers have.

    475F4BEE-D4D5-4B2C-BD71-36242F775B86.jpeg Great news. Two things.
Would the TVL hoppers be appropriate for NTP, or are there tweaks that place them out of that time frame?
Secondly. Valenta HST? Asking a lot I know. Would be great waiting for a path into Leeds, or waiting for a departure path whilst they took off down the ECML or just seeing them terminated at Leeds. Create the model, sell it as DLC with BR and Intercity liveries. Apply it to Leeds and Darlington, as well as any future routes planned. This being the year of their withdrawal, would be fitting. The HST Valenta. Just on a bit of further research, there are reports as someone has previously said with the Deltics, of Intercity 125s being drafted in for cover to do Lime St to Newcastle runs. (Stalybridge to Leeds scenario?)
In the early 80s 125s were taken out to rural west Yorkshire for PR shoots. (Leeds to Manchester scenario).

I've got a question about the 08 on NTP.

If you own both NTP and TVL, will you be able to use the 08 on NTP eventhough you don't have the freight DLC?

I would love to see a HST in BR colours but until there is a route for it I can't see it being a popular piece of DLC if it is only suitable for AI traffic, I certainly wouldn't purchase it without a new route. They weren't used on trans-pennine services if one was it would have been a diversion or exception, this route was operated by provincial services not intercity and I can't imagine intercity letting HST's onto what was not a main trunk route. Deltics were used on trans-pennine services towards the end of the service life so they would be a nice piece of DLC although they were withdrawn in 1981 I don't see that would make much different to the route period!

I can't see the next UK route DLC being another 80's route as the DTG offices would be under-siege if the next route isn't modern!

I don't own TS1 and play TSW on PS4 so the number of modern routes on TS1 is irrelevant to me. Maybe that's the way to go though for modern enthusiasts so maybe I need to invest in a PC.

When I talk about variety I mean having steam, diesel and electric across all three countries. DTG keep churning out diesels for the UK and electric in Germany and USA.

It IS a disaster for those of us that don't own TS1. The last modern UK locomotive OR route for TSW was released almost two years ago in September 2017 and still no steam. Matt Peddleston said that TSW would feature variety and each route would be significantly different from the last. Tees Valley is not significantly different from NTP. Same era and very similar traction. Great if you like that stuff but a major disappointed if you don't.
