Bit of a shame if JT have withdrawn from TSC development. They got off to a shaky start - 166's over the Forth Bridge and overuse of Kuju RS assets - but matured into a worthy developer. However I would be more concerned of the decision to focus on TSW is mirroring decisions currently being made at DTG/Focus who have been very quiet of late. Anyhow back OT sounds like this route is worth getting, albeit I still have to buy the Bournemouth route to start with. Southampton to Salisbury best enjoyed with a Class 33 and 5 Mark Ones, or a Hampshire Thumper though!
I’m really hoping that someone more talented than me writes a scenario using older stock sometime. I’m still really loving this DLC. I’ve got through about half of the 17 scenarios so far and it really does bring back memories of when I lived in the Salisbury area and used to catch the train over to Southampton and back.
It is strange if JT are not doing anything more for TSC when there is at least one route under development
No mystery Spike, my computer hasn't been able to look inside ap. files for donkey's years despite many a folk exclaiming that isn't possible but hey my PC is super special and was told by a DtG techo that it must be a systemic issue with my OS.
Agreed, I feel the urge to be making a railtour scenario with a 205 from Salisbury to Bournemouth via Chandlers Ford!
This may appeal to you https://alanthomsonsim.com/downloads/1v96-1657-brighton-to-cardiff-central-2004/
It does - Thanks a lot! Unfortunately the reskin for the 442 requires the discontinued AP pack, so it's gong to have to run in Gatwick Express livery. But I'm sure it will be fun anyway.
https://www.justtrains.net/in-development/midland-main-line-buxton-and-peak-forest-extension Another extension for the excellent midland mainline, I just hope this isn't it from the JT guys.
Ok... fair enough. You should have mentioned this, as you sent people into troubleshooting without telling them of your special PC . And many 3rd party installers rely on the default structure, for extracting GeoPcDx files. Just sayin'. Stay away from TSW, unpacking all the .pak files takes an awful lot of time
Question for the author or JT. Is there scope for any bug fixing of this route? If so I'll file a report with JT support. I've spotted a signalling anomaly that doesn't exist in the DTG version. With Signal BH22, Brockenhurst end of Lymington Town, showing Green the associated Repeater BH22R shows Yellow but its AWS gives a clear bell. On the DTG version with BH22 showing Green BH22R also shows Green as I'd expect. It appears that for some reason the JT signal is showing the wrong aspect.
Yes well I wasn't expecting a third file for two stations! I'd unpacked all the ones I'd thought were there and wasn't expecting a third folder in the assets tree..
They seem to have done, BH22R in the JT route has a head with a single light, the DTG version's head is double.
I do have the AP signals installed so I don't think so as otherwise the signals would be the same in both the DTG and JT routes.
JT use their own signals and the foliage is VP's V2 iirc, but any DTG foliage would likely be replaced with the AP foliage if you have it.
Hi Andy, route dev here. This was actually raised by one of our testers, but how it is setup in the route is actually correct. BH22R is a fixed yellow aspect, rather than it acting as a yellow/green repeater for BH22 as per the DTG route. I'll update the AWS ramp though so that it correctly gives a warning bell for BH22R rather than a clear bell, thanks for spotting that.
Yes, the route has been updated to use JT signals. It uses the DTG Southampton to Bournemouth trees though rather than the VP V2 included in the JT CL. Therefore the AP Veg EP works on the route out of the box for those that use it.
The route is fantastic ChiefJack, the level of detail and immersion is top notch, well done and thank you!
Thanks for getting back to me ChiefJackYT, glad you've got scope to fix the AWS ramp and I should have twigged that the type of signal used for BH22R could only show one aspect. The route extension is very well done and is almost on my doorstep, any chance of extending from Eastleigh and St Denys to Cosham via Fareham to link up with the DTG PDL route? Is there any information available anywhere to decode the symbols on the signalling diagram above?
Thanks Andy, no plans for further extensions currently but never say never. What is it you’re wanting some help decoding? Happy for you to drop me a private message to discuss it if you’d like?
Will the 165/166 enhancement be included? Afaik you can't trigger a bat file to copy GeoPcDx files by a Steam installation which just copies depots. Or will it use the standard stock then as usual?
Details aren’t confirmed on this. If DTG bundle the Euro Loco & Asset Pack with the route we should be able to directly include the GeoPcDx files that are copied in the batch, since the user will be guaranteed to own the Euro Loco & Asset Pack first.
Yeah, that assumption has created many a "Technical issue" post on here over the years, never assume that people have something that needs to be paid for, until DTG make it a free asset (and the US one too) there are new people to the game that wont have it. Yes it's included with some DLCs but really these days it should be bundled with the core and certainly shouldn't be priced at £11.99 and £9.99 for the EU and US respectively. Edit: Re-read your post, I missed the "bundled with" part somehow..
Nothing to add to the discussion, just wanted to say thanks for your hard work. I've really enjoyed the route!
How do you get round this error message that I've had before when attempting to install JTs routes onto my PC. As I have my game on a different drive to my C:drive the exe applicator or whatever seems to throw a wobbly. It also states that it cannot find the route Southampton-Bournemouth on my installation, well, of course it can't, as there is no such folder, there is no hyphen in between the words, so, how do we get round this administrative error, it annoys me that I have paid full wack £25 tonight for a small map extension and I can't even get it onto my computer, I was looking forward to playing on this before bedtime, what a waste of time and effort, how has everyone else managed?
Have you tried adding a hyphen to the Southampton-Bournemouth folder? I didn't have anything like this issue when installing and mine is also not on the C: Drive. It all installed just fine for me.
How did you get round the problem with other JT routes? Is the installer looking for the TSC installation in the right place or do you need to alter it? The presence of a hyphen in the route's name doesn't mean the installer is looking for a folder with a hyphen in its name, if it were then no-one would be able to install the addon. It installed fine for me and my installation isn't on the C: drive either. Best course of action as previously suggested is to contact JT support.
I finally got it installed, thanks to Simon at Just Trains, apparently, their exe, applicator didn't like the fact that I'd extracted all the files from the DTG .AP packs for both the route and the Assets folder onto my hard drive beforehand, hey ho, something else to remember next time. It's a very good extension and enhances the original route no end, my only thought was that it doesn't state in the manual anywhere that the line from Salisbury to Eastleigh isn't 3rd rail, whereby the rest of the route right down to Bournemouth is, I wonder if this has caught out anyone not familiar with the location, especially, non-British players. Cheerz. Steve.
I do too. I've really been getting into the older stuff nowadays, quite a bit of fun to drive!! However I really hope we get a proper pack from AP at some point.
Although it does not say the route is not electrified there is No Third Rail in any of the Extension Pictures in the Manual. Apart from St Denys to Eastleigh of course. I suspect most people will find out where the extension goes to and what it does or does not include.
You do remember correctly - hence no Third Rail And whilst you are here I think you posted some pictures at Southampton Central and I asked what was different from the base route - which you replied nothing Strange that JT also put a number of pictures in the same area when nothing had changed?
Oh sorry I forgot to reply back my apologies. Tbh I didn’t really play the DTG version so can’t honestly say what’s different.
As I also said, it does appear to me that nothing has been altered from the DTG route, at most some minor decorative elements may have been updated. Although, it does make sense to include the pictures of Southampton Central even if unchanged from the original as it is probably the most significant part of the overall route.
As detailed in one of the route in dev posts, the original section between Redbridge and Southampton Central did receive quite significant changes from the original DTG route: https://www.justtrains.net/in-devel...southampton-salisbury-extension#entry20221213 This included remodelling the track to represent the new layout that was completed in April 2021, along with the associated resignalling that came with this. All the clean-looking ballast in the Redbridge/Millbrook areas show track that was updated. On top of that, the section lacked a lot of foliage and clutter in the original DTG route, so this has all been added, as well as updating clutter at stations (Southampton Central in particular which has new platforms to replace the horribly low resolution DTG ones). So all in all, there was actually quite a bit updated on the original section of the route, and I'm sure that you'd notice the differences fairly quickly if you looked at the two routes side by side.
Ah fair enough - it had been a while since I'd driven the original DTG route, so I was relying entirely on my memory which clearly has failed me on this occasion! Apologies for the mis-information on my part. Regardless, being an Eastleigh native it's been quite novel seeing the Eastleigh station and all the yards etc so brilliantly recreated and it's been a lot of fun exploring the route. Just now waiting for someone to extend the route from Eastleigh to London Waterloo. That's not too much to ask, right??! XD Would also be awesome to have the Bournemouth to Weymouth section as well, as there's some really nice scenery along the way and some interesting stations along the route as well.
It's now available on Steam too. https://store.steampowered.com/app/...x_Main_Line_Southampton__Salisbury_Extension/
