Hello just bought the legendry Scotsmen right I set everything up etc set forward of we go when I get to say 20 it keeps saying when your at speed put the handle in the middle etc which I do when I've done that I'm losing speed am I doing something wrong are wt also I struggle to get up hills
Steam traction is pretty much broken in TSW, but anyway… Start of with 65 to 70% reverser but once speed gets above about 15 MPH wind that back to 40%, then to around 30% above 40 MPH. Ensure the cylinder cocks are closed once moving. Ensure you engage the fireman in manual mode, F key on PC. Open both sets of dampers to at least 25% or even 50%. Make sure the small ejector is fully open to maintain brake release. Don’t thrash at 100% regulator.
Manual results in a game failure if you forget to open the firebox door, as your 1000 deg C 2 ton incandescent furnace goes out after ten minutes. Not sure what the state of play is in full auto.
Both? Aren't you supposed to open the rear damper when travelling forward, and the front when going backward? I keep them closed when coasting / stationary and pressure is fine, to avoid wasting steam. (That's in TSC though.) As for the Johnson (Reverser), go down as low as possible and notice if you're still picking up speed. If you slow down, raise it again and find the balance between speed and steam pressure level.
25% on both dampers found a semblance of realism with the Jubilee as discussed in the dedicated thread. Whether it's prototypically correct or works on the Flying Bank Balance is another matter of course!
