Can’t believe I put off getting this for so long. Finally downloaded and installed last night; what can I say - it’s a magnificent work of art both the route and the fantastic LT stock pack that accompanies it. Already loving the R49 if it took me a few minutes to figure out how to get moving. I started with the R49 Railtour - just wondering from those who have run it whether the starting signal at Ealing Broadway on the first leg eventually clears for departure? It wasn’t for me and while the signaller authorised me to Tab past the session ended abruptly with a SPAD. Will try again later. Anyway thanks and appreciation to all involved with producing this masterpiece, which puts many TSC and TSW payware DLC to shame.
Just downloading... thanks Vern! Just a note: I recommend installing to a dummy folder, then merging the assets manually into your main installation. Reason: A lot of default Kuju\RailSimulator assets get replaced, they should not be in the distributed pack. If you install to another folder and then copy files, always select "No" when it asks to overwrite files. (If you're sure you got the correct files already...) Reason (this is what VDL will install for example, I already have the correct files - VDL installer will kill them)
I know. Well I had previously it was another scavenger hunt for assets, but not too bad. Oh the issue with the red signal didn't occur on the second attempt so going strong now on the Railtour. Fanastic!
Looking good Look at the foliage - how can people say TSW looks better?!? Here's the Pylons that the VDL installer replaces with 0-byte files back (delete Mundo\Scenery\blueprints.pak after copying)
I have cleaned the dirty windows for better enjoying the scenery and changed the cab camera position to be a bit more forward (old position still preserved, press LeftArrow or 2xRightArrow)
There's more windows to clean though, I'll go through all the textures later. This was an initial patch to enjoy the LTStandardDMD "Heritage Rail Tour Day" scenario (passenger windows are still way too dirty). Recommended FOV is 77 if you're on 16:9. (Equals 90° horizontal as in TSW, the TSC FOV values are apparently based on the 5:4 ratio which was common at the time of RS development.) Default is 65, so click the right arrow in the camera options twelve times after resetting to default, if you wish to.
I agree with you Vern. I love this. Don't drive it as much as I should. Xavier and gang have done a magnificent job.
It is absolutely great. I broke off the Railtour after another (self inflicted) SPAD to do a lower Circle Line run from High Street Kensington to Aldgate and they have captured that part of the route so well. It’s hard to believe this is freeware. Only slight downer is the Timetable scenarios have been set up so you fail if even slightly late. It took me a couple of minutes to figure out how to start up the C69 stock (turns out it’s Ctrl-Shift-S) by which time I was two minutes late and never caught up. Still a good excuse to have another go! I haven’t looked at the route map per se but assume from the scenarios it doesn’t yet go all the way to Barking and Upminster, or include the northern Circle from Aldgate to HSK via Edgware Road.
As of writing this it includes the entire District Line up to and West of Whitechapel, Circle Line from Edgeware Road to Aldgate (Anti-Clockwise), and the Piccadilly Line from North Ealing to Gloucester Road. The VDL team make it obvious their work was a labour of love.
They also have their own forum which although fairly quiet is monitored as I got a response from Jimi after posting some feedback a couple of days ago.
Yes, this is a great one! Unfortunately there has been no talk of taking the route to Barking or Upminster.
From recent talk on the VDL forum, work is still underway to bring the line to completion at Upminster, however there is nothing worth sharing at the moment.
Yes, I have had to do that for a few routes including Wycombe Lines and even the payware Wherry Lines. Of course the inherent danger is that the game won't recognise a genuine SPAD which results in a crash or derailment.
So if you have "SPAD ends scenario" turned on and you have a SPAD then it does what it says If you have "SPAD ends scenario" turned off and you have a SPAD something might or might not happen.
Except where the SPAD is due to an error or deliberate necessity to make the signalling work! Certainly true of the Wycombe line as when I did some testing the author confirmed that. Wherry Lines might have been a glitch bit I was coming off the line via Berney Arms towards Norwich under clear signals but got terminated with a SPAD.
How did that work - was it Distant Off but next Signal on? I have had a SPAD on some european routes - stop at Red signal - Use TAB and get permission to go and SPAD.
That's often a result of misplaced signal links or other violations of signalling setup (like an unlinked junction) - or faulty signal scripts, that can lead to track clearance notifications not being properly transmitted between signals.
Haha yeah I have done the same in the earlier years. Have become a rather good virtual driver and check my signals, not saying that you don't. I have a extensive collection of home made routes and my signalling isn't the best so it's best turned off for me.
