A demo was available on Steam a couple of weeks ago….looks very promising. GFX are superior to TSW imo too
I've seen it discussed on SR discord, but my impression was that it's basically The Bus on rails. Arcade game built to look good above everything else, with little attention to realism or driving feeling. But in the end as always, more competition can only do us good, so everybody is welcome to join the party. What do others think?
It's still available. Some Next Fest demos stay after the end of event, either for a few days longer, for a week/two longer, until announced that it will be removed, until full game release, or even stay along with the fully released game, so people can still try before buying.
Must admit the trailer doesn't look too bad... although lots of these TSW rival start-ups only seem to focus on one country. Hopefully they will quickly expand to represent other areas of the planet which might capture them a larger following (which is only a good thing).
I dunno, the trailer looks pretty good, but it's F2P/Freemium, which isn't really my jam- still, worth keeping an eye on
I’ve got no interest in this new sim but it’s looks really good, when I saw the trailer I almost confused it with TSW for a second.
To be fair, I think TSW should be F2P, considering the prices of the DLC, the main platform should just be a gateway.
Nah, TSW is fine the way it is. Some of the DLC could be considered a bit on the pricey side for what they are, but the general model of the game is fine. No need for F2P filling the game with adverts, or lousy subscription models.
I have been playing Fishing Planet for a few years, and can say that the developers are more aggressive with DLC than DTG... So if you are expecting fair pricing and better DLC from Train Planet, I think you are going to get a very nasty shock indeed. "Train Sim World 4 is free to play on Game Pass" will be the only response DTG will ever give you to that argument. They anticipate people bringing up that comment every time.
When it comes to the UK I will play it. I do play Fishing Planet and it's an arcade fishing game which is free but with lots of in-game purchases to beat the grind. I don't know how this railway version will work, but probably similar. Fishing planet is all about fishing around the world so hopefully train planet won't just stick to Germany. I'm not sure I can take many more red trains in samey scenery. When it expands to other countries I will take a serious look.
is it coming to consoles too if not no big deal right now TSW is the only train sim game in town on consoles dont seem like anyone else going to step into console market with a high quality train sim game that has US routes and routes from various countrys..you would think with gen 9 consolse and soon coming better consoles someone would bring another or several to consoles ...i just up graded to a X Box series X from xb1 and what a difference ..seems like they talking about and planning sucessors to ps5 x b series x and most of the games dont even tap current systems capabilites ..evev DTG dont max TSW to use ps5 xbseries x to the fullest potential
It looks pretty interesting, and yeah I'm interested in it. But I'm more excited for SimRail since I know it's coming to Console. I will say though, any competition to TSW is very welcome. Competition leads to innovation
i actually play TSW more since i upgraded to xb series x looks so much better crisper smoother there still pop in etc but much better performance than my old xb1
hmm simrail coming to console ..even if it does ill probably look into it but i still like train sim s so i will still play TSW too
Yeah, obviously its not going to get people to completely abandon TSW, it's moreso just taking a break and having more choices in sims. More trains, more fun!
Was a little confused when I started reading this line, as it sounded like Hmmsim (rail) is coming there, too...
does simrail do US routes that would a plus but even if it dont i will give it a look to see what its about
It seems it will be a free to play game. So I will keep running at TSW. The only other train Simulator I will try, if it has the announced northamerican freight route, is Sim Rail.
US and German routes are being made as DLCs at the moment and they will be released sometime after the full release of the game; no UK routes are present on its roadmap as I see, at least for now (but every other train simulator game is already oversaturated with UK routes, so I see no loss, if that one doesn't have them).
Looks promising, looks decent and lots of (German, nice) trains. Now let's hope the physics and sounds are decent too.
Graphics and world modelling are good for a demo. Shadow and draw distance need some work, The driving camera seems to drift backwards, I ended up behind a wall at one point. Control layout is different to TSW, so that will take a bit of a while to learn. Train bounce is implemented for internal view, couldn't tell from the outside. I only drove the BR218 for a short distance and failed to stop at the station. Working EBULA. Certainly worth downloading and playing around with.
You don't need any of that stuff, the base pack with the training centre (or a single route) is free, and all the revenue is made through additional routes, although they'd have to step the quality up on first party routes to really make it work.
Looks good for a reveal video, but way too early to tell if it will turn out to be a decent simulator. Hopefully, they make US freight content!
Hopefully they do announce some UK content, especially anything related to steam locomotives! It'll give me a reason to actually try out SimRail. With the announcement of DTG dropping steam traction for TSW, I'm considering jumping ship so some alternatives would be nice.
If it doesn't do it automatically skip to 55:30: https://www.youtube.com/live/h57c3EoHDzM?si=Wv-QIUnUNd9biiPm
It certainly looks a lot like UE5 at a glance. But that's only looking at it in low res, so it might not hold up as well at higher ones. I'll give it a proper look on my desktop screen at home when I get the chance and can properly analyse the lighting and such, since for all I know it could be something like Unity.
Played the BR218 intro and it's.....not bad. The route in the demo is Koln-Aachen, so you can make some direct comparisons with TSW. Working Ebula is a nice touch. Come on now DTG. Controls take some getting used to and i couldn't figure out how to get the equivalent of the free-cam in TSW though. I'm gonna play around with it a little bit. Still not sure what the end product will end up like, but i guess you don't have to pay anything to find out.
Okay yeah, that video really doesn't hold up once it's not on a phone screen when I am standing outside waiting for my takeaway and is blown up to 27". The cracks in the facade really show. Looks more like Unity or something.
Those shadows in the cab are a right mess, though TSWs are nothing to write home about either. But at least it seems to lack any noticeable Z-fighting, so there's that.
Thing is for a lot of people that is all TSW is for them, they don't care if the trains can't drive by the book or if things like safety systems don't work as they should. Making a train game which doesn't focus as hard on the simulation side, and more and just depicting lots of trains and interest locations could be a big hit.
As far as safety systems, SIFA is present. PZB claims to be on but didn't get any magnets on my only run, but maybe it's because it was the intro and there wasn't any other traffic. The default HUD is way too busy IMO. Hopefully they'll provide some customization options. I do like the all-in-one speed/elevation/signalling ribbon at the top but wish you could make it smaller. Wasn't super impressed with the graphics- textures look kinda soupy compared to TSW IMO, especially outside the train. I have the same gripe about SimRail, which is Unity as well, so maybe i just don't like that engine. Performance was smooth though tbh.
Always good to see something new. They still need to do a lot of work, I think. Will check out the demo soon ...
It's kind of fascinating- in the first BR218 scenario there's a 7:30 min wait for passenger boarding at Eschweiler Hbf, not sure if realistic but it gave me time to play around with a few things. You can fly the exterior camera around with the arrow keys. You can toggle the headlights and cab lights with the mouseover tools.
I actually installed the DEMO version. Horrible performance, needs heavy optimization. Unplayable with fps as low as 5fps
I've seen similar reviews of TSW. Almost as if building sims like this using off the shelf engines is a balancing act between bolting on enough realistic systems to give it the necessary depth, and keeping the processes streamlined enough that the game still runs smoothly.
Well my demo worked ok with no fps problems, if it’s going to be a true world wide train sim like the title suggests, then I might be interested. I worry about pricey dlc though as these devs have done with fishing planet.
