Hi all, Just a frustrated newbie here, struggling to get into this sim due to the very shallow tutorials and incomplete manual. I feel like there is a whole lot of depth simulated here, in terms of signaling, safety systems and so on, but the developers have completely neglected to write a manual that explains any of it. The official manual lists the names and locations of all the knobs and switches in the various locomotives, but doesn't even attempt to explain their purpose, or how to use them. The tutorials in-game are even more shallow. This leaves newbies like me frustrated, and searching the forums for information as to why my train refuses to accelerate, or why it slams the brakes on, etc. Am I the only one incredibly frustrated with this? Is there an advanced manual that I am missing? Thanks for any advice.
Unfortunately DTG is spending more time on telling you you’re doing something wrong, rather than spending the time on manuals, so that you can understand what it is you’re doing in the first place. There are scattered video tutorials from DTG about certain items, but other than that it’s 50/50 as to getting a manual with a DLC.
if the ingame tutorials are not good enough and the manual is agreeably trash in terms of teaching... you can always ask the community, and we are happy to help!
Unfortunately, there is no advanced manual. DTG themselves have made a list of manuals they've created here though: https://forums.dovetailgames.com/threads/tsw-gameplay-guides-manuals.73293/ I doubt they'll be any help for you though.
My best advice would also be to use the forums. The community here helped me a lot. And there're always people with deep knowledge and good will to help. (Unfortunately DTG on their own should listen more to them, but that's another topic ...) Meanwhile some maybe useful links (copy-pasted from my speed dial): https://dovetailgames.freshdesk.com/support/solutions/folders/80000678884 https://www.trainsimcommunity.com/mods/c3-train-sim-world https://train-sim-world.fandom.com/wiki/Train_Sim_World_Wiki https://steamah.com/train-sim-world-3-a-list-of-all-collectable-guide/ https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLCChzGj86LEcH7RTxMDwJtFMNdtVdU7ip https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet...DmY4gNyMw_dRNi86G57o/edit?pli=1#gid=390436278 https://drive.google.com/file/d/1DQJy3oD3DMRny5GWvGkXmhImGvuLZdoQ/view https://drive.google.com/file/d/1c9GLX28H4RA3Xvid_4JESqouZL6NQ2tq/view https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1Oa5Kks2WuG-vwl1y28eH2sLagosLClfx/edit#gid=892243586 That should give you a good week's (month's?) read.
sometimes you can find some advice in older manuals - e.g. manual for Ruhr Sieg Nord has some decent explanation on PZB and associated signals... as for OBB version of PZB, try this: http://users.fini.net/~bersano/italien-italian/V2.PDF as for other signal systems, try either forums or internet, youtube tutorials on some things can be helpful but yeah, as someone here said, this forum can be a huge help, since it sometimes contains advice you literally wont find anywhere else... like meaning of some buttons and such
Thanks all for the links to the community resources, I will definitely go through them. I'm just playing with the Vorarlberg line at the moment and my initial issues were with the PZB (surprise surprise) and understand signals/signage - think I've got it down now but there are still a few weird signals on the German part of the line that I'm not too sure about. I guess I'm just surprised that DTG go to the effort of implementing systems like PZB, and then fail to mention it in the manuals (at least in the manuals that I've looked at). I'd have thought most developers would be eager to share such details about their sim. The extra system depth makes the whole experience much more immersive - especially when you can understand it and not have to use the HUD as a crutch for the whole trip. I'll be sure to ask again if there are any other question that I can't find answers for on the forums. Thanks again
Not sure if this is linked to from the links above, but this downloadable PDF is a good English-language resource for Germany: German Signal Aspects and Lineside Signs
It is funny how DTG decoys new players and disregard proper introduction. But dont worry, one week and you will know everything about tsw and dtg as well....
