The part about heritage freight certainly makes me sad.. I had so many hours on the PRR Horseshoe Curve in TSC. Even though it’s mainly freight there was great passenger services as well there. Maybe one day..

I think a route like the Chicago Racetrack would be a great option. A route busy with both passenger and freight traffic.

Given your explanations, I wager it won’t account for much when I say that I’d love more vintage routes with F-units and early GPs and SDs - something like Clinchfield. Slightly off-topic here but such a route also coming with (or getting via DLC) streamlined passenger trains with E/F-units would be spectacular. I’ve seen the TSC articles about Feather River Canyon and that would be something I’d absolutely adore in TSW. I’ll spare you my ranting on how much I want an electrified section of the Milwaukee Road with box cabs and/or Little Joes for now, but that’s also something I’d love.

Sticking to the modern side, I feel like the ES44C4 is probably our best modern loco. Why not use it as a basis to expand TSW’s GEVO fleet? Add the already mentioned fencing and you’d immediately have a deeper and richer gameplay experience.

Just my 2 cents - use what we already have such as the F7, SD40, and ES44C4 as a basis for more content going forwards.

I think DTG need tp put more effort into US freight not less also not all the freight routes are done by DTG HSC is skyhook aint it..3rd parties need to put more effort to us freight ..DTG needs to get some GOOD 3rd party developers that WANT to create decent US freight content and ppl on here think they know everything how about if youave the skills and want better content and you think you got what it take become a 3rd party developer less talk more action ..also tired of the PC crowd comparing run 8 sim rail and what ever if run 8 was available for consoles ill d buy it if sim rail comes to console ill look into it tsc not built for console sadly we cant play the classic US stufv on console plus NOOOOBODDDYY wants classic us stuff enough for it to even happen or some kind of tsc like game built for consoles at do for gen 9

the es44c4 sounds are good quality the ns es44ah in HSC could use improved sounds use the es44c4 sound for it besides the es44c4 exclusive to bnsf but the es44ah is a staple on all major US freight rr how about doing csx bnsf cn up skins for the es44ah can be layered in all us routes where they regularly operate same with the sd70ace ns cn etc maybe kcs but a licencse would have to be gotten for kcs cpkc ..how about new skins for the f7 sd40 mp15 etc add new scenarios layers to existing us routes kind like the ns up heritage paks came with a few new scenarios timetable layers but some complained they were not good enough ..ive done them were not a prob for me except in one couldnt get dynamic brakes to work but there a work aroud go into the cabinet behind the control stand open it and filck the circuit breaker a few timres cut in then i got dynamic brakes to work and completed it not much of a inconvenience shoild work more properly but at least a work around other wise the sd70 ace a favorite i like to run

Well, not entirely. Any realistic modern US route, freight or passenger, should have PTC implemented- a challenge DTG have not yet taken on outside the two NEC routes (where it took a few tries to get it working). Apparently PTC (in any of its various forms) is a real technical challenge; they attempted it on Antelope Valley but gave up.

I understand the access issue. However, DTG by now has a decent size library of US diesels, all of which have at least decent sounds (the HSC ES44 is SHG, not DTG). Surely that's a core to build from? The SD70ACe and ES44 are the dominant locomotives on American rails, and the existing models can be tweaked as necessary.

Yes, I too would absolutely love more vintage routes, but if they don't sell they don't sell. I can think of several projects I personally would love to play, but realistically aren't commercially viable. I would suggest, though, that route content is not necessarily the deciding factor in sales. "BR blue is a loser," we were told, and I'm sure DTG's internal figures confirmed that: but then here comes Blackpool. One which has sold very well, despite its "unpopular" content, because of its outstandingly high quality. I suspect that something of the sort was at work in the other direction with Clinchfield (and the two steam routes); it was bugs and failures of implementation which harmed their sales as much as the route concept. If Clinchfield had been made to Blackpool standard would it have been a sales disappointment?

Because you say you live in the US I'm going to assume that English is your first language. Given that, your posts would benefit from some basic punctuation.
You obviously have some useful things to say, but I find your posts impossible to read. Try some periods and commas, even a paragraph or two. ;)

It's also necessary for safety reasons. There have been cases in recent years where PTC implementation would have prevented accidents and saved lives.

They’d be pretty dumb if they did as freight is the backbone of US railroads today. I read somewhere that freight actually gets priority over passengers in the US - imagine that.
Besides they’ve already said that the new San Bernardino route will have freight services.

I agree this is a myth from Chinese whispers I think, US freight is very popular on Trainz, TSC and it’s coming to Simrail too, not to mention games like Railroader and Railroads online which both have a lot of freight content. There is no way DTG would be stupid enough not to tap into this popular market.
Driving a passenger train is similar around the world, driving monster North American freight trains is totally unique.

I don't have any problem with estimated physics, sound and 'lookalike' unbranded liveries where access and brand licencing cannot be obtained. Its definitely better than the alternative of having nothing at all and watching the TSW user base shrink.

The TSW franchise started with a US freight route, its a shame to see that diversity of operations dying more each year.

100% this. As long as all reasonable attempts have been made to make things accurate. I would rather have inaccuracy than not have some of the cool and iconic stuff.

With all that DTG been ignoring US freight , There should have been at least 1 dedicated.US freight route for TSW4 . And whatever successor to TSW 4 is should be at least 1 new freight route and some kind of car or new loco pak

Simply put, the freight lines own the tracks, and Amtrak pays to use them.

By law, passenger trains are supposed to be given priority, but in practice....

Id also like to add, I do not care if the railcars are real companies. They can be DTGX for all of em to me. Matt im sure a lot of us can give a plethora of options for railcars that could be designed too.

I'm not sure I agree with this. We don't want to give DTG carte blanche to slap together any combination of routes and locos that lack the kind of quality and reasonable accuracy we should expect.

They already have a library of locomotives so there shouldn't be any excuse for poor sound and physics.

And building routes is not a great technical challenge, given that several have been developed over the last 6 or 7 years. What changed?

That's why I suspect that this decision is more business based than technical. Maybe the size of the market doesn't support the time and budget needed to develop US freight routes with the quality of Blackpool or even Boston.

Whatever is behind this revelation ( I won't call it a decision because it's obviously been known but not admitted for many months ), " there's nothing in the plan for US freight " is clear enough. We cannot expect anything for the foreseeable future. Each US freight fan will have to deal with that in his or her own way, just like we all have for the demise of steam.

If they would fix creators club so that you can use your own and others creations in game i ve given up in livery designer what is the use in it if cant select your own liveries in game or others this is biggest issue with rolling stock

I suppose all of the current major North American freight companies have already been covered with their own routes aside from CP, which really needs to come to this game with a route through the Rockies. Aside from that it means going retro.

Well, after sleeping on it, i've reconciled myself to the fact that US freight is done is TSW.

The reasons don't even really matter, do they?

If people are not buying US content, and US train operating companies won't cooperate with DTG on licencing, it's not looking very good right now.

The fact DTG just gave away free copies of Peninsula Corridor: San Francisco – San Jose Route is a sign that interest in US content is not there.

UK, Germany and Austria are easier to licence, are more popular and make more money.

Well I for one would be quite happy to accept a shortline railroad (or another heritage era). Mentioned before one of the activities I enjoy in Run 8 is taking the "Local" down to Trona, or along the Arvin or Buttonwillow branch and serving the industries.

Maybe this more open, free style play is something DTG should investigate at least for the US stuff.

And yet over in TSC we have just seen a remastered Feather River release so is there not scope to get the people involved with that on board to do something in TSW?

Just because it was given away for free doesn't mean there's zero interest. Lgv was also given out for free but nobody said dtg have zero interest so why is that a reasoning for peninsula corridor

A few people say that, but then the newest route comes out as a small faction of the fandom loses their mind because the sounds are ‘slightly’ off. People need to be willing to adapt or face the fact there will be less choice of the stuff we love.

Don’t let people complaining that everything isn’t 100% accurate twist your arm into not making content for everyone else. Try things out and see if we like it. If everything about a loco isn’t 100% right but it is still functioning close to reality and is well made, with spot on services and scenarios, then players will like it and buy it. There will still be complaints and some people may prefer to use another simulator but there are I suspect a lot of players that will be happy with the content. Never give up.

If that is the case, there could be no new TSW4 addon releases. Because all of them are not 100%. For example the engine sounds at the 642, 628, Talent 1 and so on. Other question is, if a simulation by release can be ever at 100 % is possible.

Lots of copium in here, guys.

Consider it 1000% dead just like steam and save yourself the disappointment.

Lol, in a couple of years maybe they'll start selling "diesel railtour packs" for the inevitable next Metrolink route- for $20 they'll scrape together a GP or SD and whatever freight cars are still rattling around the sim, plaster some Xmas lights to it and call it a day

Probably too much work though tbh

I mean, I would love another Metrolink Route, LA's an interesting place, and the Orange County line would be great, could add in Surf Liner.
The F125 and Rotem are also pretty well done in TSW.

I just want DTG/Skyhook to be smarter when making decisions on these routes.

-Why didn't AVL have a UP loco as default stock? Why not rebrand the Maxi IV's as DTGX as a fake TTX well car?
-Why did Cajon not have any UP services like real life that ran between the cutoff and Barstow? Why do fictional stuff with the F7?
-Why does the BNSF SD40-2 have the incorrect run numbers for the time period?
-Why did the BNSF SD70ACe not have the ISO cab?
-Why are the UP Heritage Liveries so terrible? Especially when compared to the Norfolk Southern ones that Skyhook did.
-Why did Skyhook not give HSC a TOD4 update with the heritage liveries, as well as updating their GEVO with the sound from the C4?
-Why did DTG not give alternate liveries for the Clinchfield Stock?

The only route I really can't gripe about is Sand Patch Grade, its still solid and really just needs a TOD4 upgrade, and some tweaks to the timetable.

Also on a side note, DTG should take advantage and use the DTGX moniker as a leaser in game for leased locos at industries.

An example would be like at Ardent Mills in San Bernardino, which currently leases an EX-SD40T-2 to dump grain cars at their site.

DTG could just make like a generic livery on a loco, give it a number and slap DTGX on the side for something like this.
    IMG_2024.02.23-14.16.26.jpg

Cajon has so much potential for side jobs between here, and the 2 cement plants, but nothing really happens there.....

Please remind me how many French route DLCs have released for TSW?

Oh yeah.... Just the one that DTG gave away because it wouldn't sell.

    Told me?
Sorry but I don't remember that phone call.

Almost every route DLC has freight yards, and most of them are entirely empty. They are mostly just for show, and surrounded by invisible walls.

So giving out free dlc is a bad thing? I've seen other games do it all the time even if it sells really well so why is it a bad thing tsw does it?

And the reason of the empty yards is that the optimization is not good enough. You can make that experience if you go to external camera when you come with your train near to the yard. In this situation you will often have a game crash.

I ve noticed also there are issues with some of the UK German trains. But they still do more content even with peoples complaints , Seems DTG saying US is only passenger trains ..Headline in News paper BNSF has announced they exiting freight business and cajon pass will now be passenger only

I been thinking processing some things seems like in general with TSW people are hard to please , not happy with what routes are done, poor sounds , bugs glitches in game, modern vs classic trains and routes, not enough of this too much of that etc . Seems like it becoming more challenging for DTG and maybe other rail simulator s to do content if people are so demanding and hard to please.

Run 8 seem to manage, Though it has to be said while they are churning out new routes and the occasional car pack, they too seem to have stalled as regards loco releases both Road and switchers.

Going forward. as far as US freight will use free roam more and what routes i have, I will keep my eyes on the Metrolink route s progress they said it will have some type of freight layer, if its decent i will buy it if not then maybe not or wait for a sale, Since I play some non US routes too I will just watch the pre release live streams right now the only other route i have interest in is Fife Circle will keep eyes on that ..

They won’t even consider putting it on Steam. Besides, there are so many different and arcane key commands it would be virtually impossible to play on a console.

  50. To answer your question:

1 Donner Pass (as in TSC with Southern Pacific, SD60-SD70 etc)
2 Double track mainline between Kansas City and Chicago so you can also drive Amtrak, but also high speed (70MPH) hot freights without a mountain pass
3 IC&E Chicago to Byron (100 miles) so half is passenger (don't need logos) and other half is freight.
4 Marias Pass with extended 20-30 mile eastern flat section (compared to TSC) so we can run high speed

Donner Pass would work (as well as Marias) because the new photoreal LIDAR tech works so well. But also the physics are the same basically for all American freight so there is no need to look for more. Sherman Hill for example is accurate and Cajon etc.
Don't know if Amtrak heads through Donner Pass during daylight or not but as far as I know there is very few buildings to model for Donner, making it easier (well I think easier).

The IC&E is operated by CN or CP. Most of the track is next to mainroads.

I would after the above routes are put into TSW like to see Feather River Canyon.

The point I will try to make is let's have a route without mountain passes for once but let's have Donner Pass (as I think even if you can't get access it is still doable due to few buildings) first.
I particularly love the Southern Pacific paint scheme.

    While I have you there....

West Coast Main line Trent Valley or Shap would be perfect for TSW.

And while I don't yet like Antelope much (I will probable in 3 years as I generally take a while to warm up to routes-such as Koln Aachen and Main Spessart Bahn I am now into them!) I have to refrain my opinions because judging from the numbers DTG gets a lot of popularity from its chosen routes. I can't criticise anyway as you guys have done a great job and honestly love the stuff you produce. It's top notch and I said before the sounds of the locomotives (US) are so realistic I think I am there starting an SD-40!!

I remember doing an oil train scenario with a SD70M or something in TSC Donner Pass. This is part 3 of it.

I cannot start up TSC as I just can't stand TSC anymore.

So here is hoping Donner Pass is already being worked on!

Also I get it that freight is less popular and have read your statements in the other threads.

I wonder if crowdfunding is an option using a Dovetail portal where we can see the amount raised?
