Ohhh lol...well even if and when that LIRR 2.0 details reveal, which may take another 6 months lol, I wouldn't be surprised if it they just ONLY added layers or NJ Transit and Amtrak in and out Penn Station/Sunnyside Yard and nothing else......They better prove me wrong lol.....And what's still with this license issue on?

I mean those are the trains at penn station lol if it's ever a lirr 2.0. Licensing issues is licensing issues that we don't really know about and dtg can't discuss. It could be for the trains itself or other operators who also own the track so their approval might also be needed. But we don't know and will have to be patient

Anyone remember the whole conversation about how Amtrak let Dovetail gain access to the Pacific Surfliner yard that was talked about during the showcase and Q&A for the Antelope Valley Line and aswell as the many pictures put together of them recording in 8th St? I doubt they would have all these remarkable sounds and stuff just for it to be for no reason. TSW 5 possibly?

Don’t read too much into it. It’s been stated by Matt multiple times they got as many recordings as they could on their 2 week trip to Los Angeles. It makes sense to take advantage of the access you have and record whatever you can, whether they use it or not. LA is a long way from the UK and it’s likely they wouldn’t return for a long time. Not to mention probably expensive for them. Now they have the recording in their library. Let’s not start assuming this means that Surfliner stuff is coming though.

There’s no need to speculate over something that has already been stated as fact. I was repeating what Matt and others at DTG have said regarding what you’re speculating over. Its been discussed on here several times in fact. Including in the San Bernardino discussion thread:

Sadly, DTG has updated the trophies to remove the LIRR related one for Salzburg Rosenheim.

Meaning the route is suspended indefinitely till the issues are resolved....

Not a great sign at all. I still don't understand how the project got so far without licensing in place. Somebody dropped the ball big time.

Did they talk about it at all on the roadmap stream? Probably not much they can say tbh

US content has really taken a beating in TSW4

I really hope they did not decline to approve the licenses. If so, that is a bummer for the fans that want US content, especially as it's America's busiest passenger railroad. I got my hopes up to see this LIRR route get revealed. I just hope the project is not cancelled. Crazy, because it was in the 0-3 months category so it should have been out by now as TSW4 came out around early September.

Now that I think about it, do we never get scenarios of late trains because that goes against the operator's image? I liked scenarios in TSC that would make trains late and we would have to face a lot of traffic, but I just have not seen that in a long time.

I’m pretty sure there’s some criteria that they must follow regarding the licenses they get. Stuff like they can’t simulate derailments, breakdowns, late trains, etc. Basically anything that would make that operator look bad.

They have licenses with MTA (both LIRR and MNR), Amtrak, and NJT. Who’s the holdout? NY&ARR? If that’s the case, if NY&A is even included, just take the branding off. It’s probably a lot more complex than I’m seeing, but licensing doesn’t seem like it should be an issue.

It likely varies based on the company as well. I think some of the license holders don't even want to see their trains dirty/weathered which is why a few of the TSW routes have locos that look like they all just rolled out of the repaint shed.

I think its getting cancelled....Thats why I wouldn't have high hopes lol....I sought of thought they were going to try the MNRR New Haven Line route, but instead fumbled this so-called LIRR 2.0, AGAIN....the moment whats his name mentioned there is a "good reason" why the US tease was delayed in that last roadmap, I knew it would be longer than 3 months, heck maybe another year..OR this project is going to be scrapped..

Oh boy, thank goodness for the variety of routes in TSC if it gets scrapped. I am just hoping the license gets approved so we can enjoy the wonderful work and detail put into the new LIRR route for TSW

It's not going to be canceled. They would remove the branding/logo entirely before that happened. They aren't going to just throw out 6months+ of work.

That would make sense. Speaking for myself, they can leave the M9s out completely. At the end of the day, the M9 is an upgraded M7 with less comfortable seats, an uglier bonnet, and the *astonishing* capability of informing passengers which car they’re sitting in (and if the next stop is a short platform).

Well they better prove me wrong then.. That also goes for this reworked LIRR Dlc...Did they rebuild it with minor extensions of the routes OR its still the same end to end stops like tsw 2020?

And as far as that rumor goes, if it's the M9 sets(Kawasaki) that's holding them back, then I will say unfortunately, to leave out the m9 completely

The DM30 and C3 would add more variety and the possibility of diesel services after electrification ends. I am hoping track work, signal infrastructure and scenery is improved. I would say the original LIRR lays the foundation for LIRR 2.0, but alot would need to be modified as scenery in most places was modeled incorrectly, albeit capturing the feel of the area it represented

Hopefully not. I mean if LIRR had pulled the licence and got stroppy then that would probably have been accompanied by a stipulation to remove the existing route from sale, to new customers anyway, which AFAIK hasn’t happened.

Maybe we will get some more information in due course, though I can understand DTG being a bit cagey if negotiations are still underway or indeed there is a risk the original route could get pulled if LIRR or the parent company decide to be obstructive.

Ive been following this in the discord. But its gotta be Kawasaki. between the R211 orders and the M9 order being late, the MTA/Kawasaki relationship is kinda strained. And it would have nothing to do with the game directly but its suffering from it.

Funny I did not read anywhere that they have stopped US freight at all.

But passenger service is what the majority play so who knows maybe the 6th US route down the line will be frieght.

But nothing in that thread Matt said tells me they are stopping. In fact he more sounds like he is begging for some good suggestions and feedback.

Not like steam where they have said no we are not doing it anymore.

Personally I think if there is freight the route would need some passenger action as well for it to sell. I like freight I have all the routes but passenger runs are personally my go to when I play.

I would love to see the Canadian Rockies in the game but I do think most people would be bored with it.

And no doubt most North American freight companies stick to themselves and are very closed off when it comes to outsiders wanting to use their equipment.

Most news is bad news that is pushed out to the general public is about how much of a disaster North American railroads, mostly news of derailments and evironmental disaters is all we get.

So like steam if they can't do it right then why bother. And according to these forums the majority thinks they can't do it right.

I guess as long as they don't chop a part of the game you like, it's all good, right? Well, they're falling fast, who knows what will be left in the end.

Frankly, i don't think the "begging for some good suggestions and feedback" was at all in good faith- the previous post (where US Freight was, in fact, confirmed as dead- sorry filler AI traffic doesn't count in my book) just listed the reasons why it's being put down:

No access to Class 1 RRs for recordings and other source material- a genuinely bad situation- maybe it's unresolvable and the days of officially licensed NEW train products from the Class 1's are over indefinitely.

    Short lines? They don't sell
Retro/period lines? They definitely don't sell
Extensions of existing lines? Niche of a niche
    Shunting- nobody plays it

OK, well how about improving the existing product?

PTC/Cab sigalling? Too hard never gonna happen

DPU fencing- apparently completely achievable but hasn't been done over the past 18 months of no US freight content because....*shrugs*

But, If only we weren't so hardcore about the audio, oh the wonders they could produce!!

US freight is such a hard thing to mess around with and manufacture for the sim, I understand why content of that realm doesn't sell because it's not as fast action as other things. TSW3 with Cajon, I only have 23 hours, TSW4 with the AVL 123 already... No matter how hard going up a grade is, it's not as cool as it seems after doing it one time.

There are some scenarios that call for you to rescue a disabled train, and one where you have to deliver materials to a tunnel cave-in.

Not necessarily. The license agreement for LIRR1 presumably is a permanent license for that specific route (not any others). The rumour mill sez that GWR is no longer playing ball, but the GWE route hasn't been scuppered. I doubt DTG would ever let themselves get into another Virgin Trains mess, where a TOC could effectively kill off an existing product..

Not very likely, I don't think. It is extremely unusual for a manufacturer to trademark a train or locomotive- usually if anyone does it at all, which is still rare, it's a TOC (like DB and the ICE3). I'm not aware of any manufacturer to have claimed a trademark in a train other than Hitachi with the 800 series. And the M3 and M7 were built by Budd, which is now defunct, so they couldn't be claiming anything (besides, in order to prevail the thing claimed has to be visually distinctive, and the M3 and M7 are about as generic as a train can be).

The M7 was built by Bombardier; the M3 was built by Budd. I don’t believe that they included the Bombardier builder’s plaque in the model, but they reference it during training and in the loco selection screen (at least in earlier iterations of TSW). I could be wrong, but I don’t think they’ve done anything by Kawasaki, which could explain the licensing issue.

In regard to manufacturer licensing: We did see DTG getting a proper Siemens license for the Vectron if the inclusion of the Siemens markings on the loco is anything to go by. I wouldn’t exclude manufacturer licensing potentially being an issue.

    Just some food for thought.

One other thing I can see holding it up, is that DTG sent the finished product to either the LIRR or Kawasaki for final art approval, but the turnaround is super slow, and DTG hasn't gotten a response from either party yet.

In Siemens' case, IIRC it was through Siemens that they were able to do a complete video and sound survey - basically they were loaned a loco and a driver for two days - and I expect that the logo was part of that deal. A clever strategy, since working RR aren't often going to do that for a game company.

Certainly. If that is how they did the survey, Siemens own testing facilities will allow DTG to get all recordings they need (I do recall the facilities being mentioned when the Vectron was released). I could also imagine that DTG wanted the Vectron name because of its recognizability and that meant approaching Siemens regardless. Anyways, I don’t want to to derail this thread.

Bumping this thread due to the roadmap today, and now I'm wondering if the San Bernadino line isn't a launch route anymore.

With 5 new content entries, you have to believe that at least 1 of those is a US route, but it also probably means that the San Bernardino Line will probably be locked behind the TSW5 paywall as well.

That’d be quite scummy given it was first announced and revealed as a TSW4 route but it wouldn’t surprise me in the least.

I have a feeling San Bernadino will be a route that will work in TSW4 but new features in TSW5 for this route will be behind the pay wall, or this might be the last US route for TSW4, granted if there is no new iteration of TSW introduced this year. I really hope the next US route after San Bernadino is the Hudson line, so we can have a mix of freight and passenger. That would be a good chance to bring in the P32AC-DM with shoreliner coaches which also opens opportunities for a P42DC

They could have at least " flagged " those New Content entries so we would know which of the markets ( US, UK or DE ) they each represented.

What marketing purpose does this great secrecy thing serve anyway that DTG likes it so much on the Roadmap?

Would love the Hudson Line. Or the New Haven Line. The question is, do we really have any chance of getting MTA content after the LIRR fiasco? It seems to me some last-minute compromises were made just to get that route out the door. It isn't clear that the MTA would be agreeable to anything at all in the future.

The future for US/NA content is bleak.
