They are accessibility ramps, yes, and the gap doesn't matter because the crew would put down a bridge plate (ramp) over the gap onto the train.
maybe exactly what you assumed but they still have an extra platform to place between entrance and edge. if the platform edge itself was too close it would scratch some marks at the train itself so this may be a better solution for that edit: someone was faster than me
