and it's a black beauty, courtesy of the excellent locomotive craftsmen at Victory Works. All the class' variations are featured, and you can run the preserved Black Prince and Evening Star on any current railtour schedule: Available at: https://steamsoundssupreme.com/br-standard-class-9f-pack This is advanced, state of the art locomotive, so the manual needs to be read: https://sites.create-cdn.net/sitefiles/30/4/0/304084/BR_9F_Manual.pdf
Thank you, glad you are enjoying it And it's your pack once purchased, you can mix up the dozens of variations any way you like... although I wouldn't use one of the standard tenders (B, C, F, G) on a mechanical stoker engine, you'll run out of coal pretty quickly
my bad, quickly put up a free roam and couldn't find the ready made consists. also notice the wrong shadow texture under the support coach a wish would be to have the headboards scripted like in the BMG and Caledonian locomotives so they can be seen in QD consists.
Good feedback, thank you. Rather late in the day we added an extra 12 headboards so I had to remove the key to cycle through the original 3 but I will have to have a re-look at that
Is anyone going to be making scenarios for this? I suppose that I could swap out the DTG one with TS Tools.
I have yet to figure out how to purchase this - according to the page you linked to, it is still "coming soon"? John
I preordered mine and when it was released I got an email with the download link. Yes the same for me on their page.
It's the same result if you go directly to the webs site and look for it there. You can't buy it. Possible explanations: A fault on the website. It's only currently available to those who pre-ordered. Some bugs have been found, and it's been removed from sale while they are corrected. I have no information on which of these is true.
I have asked about this on Victory Works FB page. As it is the holidays it might take a few days to get an answer.
Oops, best add now, I've bought the 9F on pre-order and got it delivered. Perhaps Victory Works is collecting early launch bugs and will deliver the more polished final product soon?
The 9F is now released https://steamsoundssupreme.com/br-standard-class-9f-pack? Manual - https://steamsoundssupreme.com/sitefiles/30/4/0/304084/BR_9F_Manual.pdf
His early models are available on Steam, but some years ago he announced he will see his new models on SSS website only.
You comment was "I think Victory Works do not sell on steam store now." with no reference to new or old models.
They're probably wise to sell direct/through their preferred partner SSS first, before allowing Steam to serve the customers. Steam takes a hefty cut that could be better used for elimination of bugs, improvements and additional rolling stock.
For the benefit of anyone who finds this thread via a search engine - you get 1 scenario for Riviera Line in the Fifties and 2 scenarios for Western Lines of Scotland.
The Franco-Crosti add-on for the 9F is now available at SSS https://www.steamsoundssupreme.com/crosti-9f-addon
I bought this as the other VW models are really good, and the cab while not being BMG quality, do generally look good.. But their 9F really is a step backwards.. Exterior is ok, but inside the cab the textures are dull, model is blocky and just doesn't look all that good. Simulation wise it's even worse... The steam brake seems to just come on or off and difficult to have a small application, unlike other VW models that have a steam brake. The Vac gauge charges to 25, rather than the 21 it should be. Steam chest pressure gauge is just all over the place, and needs some smoothing - IRL is nothing like that.. It really was quite the disappointment, and makes me question any future VW purchases..
I'm sorry you feel that way. We actually had 3 current drivers/firemen of 9F's working with us on this one and they've been very pleased with it and customer feedback since release has been excellent. The cab textures are suitable for the cab of a working 9F, these workhorse locos were not polished to a high shine. The amount of polys used are normal for us and no controls are "blocky" in the cab view. The Vac gauge goes to 23" light engine at the maximum, something quite plausible for light engine locos. The steam brake is applied by the steam brake lever and is proportional, as the real thing. The chest gauge is a little shaky at high speed I will give you and we will be looking at that.
I had it go to 23" when set to headcode E, which is supposed to be 50% of the train fitted. My main criticism of the pack, though, is that the manual isn't up to the quality of previous VW content - it's missing things like images of the controls, for instance.
Thanks for the reply, it's nice to see a developer take criticism.. I've fired a 9F too, so my comments do come from a place of some knowledge.. I just tried the steam brake again, and I'm afraid it does just go straight to almost full application, if I then wiggle it it will reduce some but initially it always seems full on, I also seem unable to disengage it fully without fully letting the brake off.. It does seem somewhat wrong.. As far as the details in the cab go, here are my more detailed comments - I hope you will take them constructively: 1. Valve handles far too 'matt' - no shine on them. If you go in a real 9F (or any current loco) you will see that the valve handles are all generally polished to a shine to keep the fireman/drivers's hands nice and clean. Yours need a bit of brasso... You have the vac brake handle nice and shiny, so why did all the other brass parts get left out? 2. Vac brake - no holes on brake assembly (they should be all around the lever to let the air in... You have included that detail on the Manor / other GRW stuff, why did the 9F get left out? 3. The firebox appears to be too narrow. A 9f has a VERY wide box... Plus the forward slope is more like a GWR Hall than a 9F, which has a long, flat(ish) high grate.. 4. Vac is charging to 23.5 regardless of fitted stock or not... 5. Steam heating has no control valve, and is stuck showing pressure in any case.. 6. Water level indicator in Tender has no detail. 7. Forward windows & cab roof do not open.. It's difficult to back this one up, and I grant there is quite a lot of interpretation, but in general it's a little overpowered at higher cut-offs. That said this is a general criticism of nearly all TSC models.. Set the virtual loco to the same cut-off, and same steam chest pressure, on the same gradient as one would in real life (with the same load) , and you'll find that the virtual loco will go 10-20 MPH faster than the real one would at low speeds.. IRL I've seen 40-45% cutoff, and 40-60 indicated on steam chest pressure should maintain around 25MPH on reasonably level ground. In sim you keep going way up over towards 50mph.. Most odd. I'm afraid in may areas it just feels slightly unfinished.. and the only reason I'm so critical is because at the price point, I would expect the same quality as your previous models, which were excellent, but this one seems to fall just short of your previous work.. I know some prefer to lay praise on developers for just turning anything out, but I feel I'd rather give you real criticism...
I appreciate that but from the customer POV, Steam allows me to fund purchases fairly easily by feeding the Steam Wallet with the odd £20 gift card, useful for ensuring SWMBO doesn't see exactly how much I spend on this hobby! I know that's probably not what the developer wants to hear, but that is the reality of my situation. It also keeps everything backed up securely in the cloud/Steam server as at the end of the day third parties come and go (even those thought of as institutions like UKTS) but if the lights ever went out on Steam/Valve, game over for us all.
A quick question for Pete, does the Crosti have the ejector and piping along the side of the boiler?. Mine seems to be missing that. Also, would you consider adding the recessed handrail that sits outside the cab, immediately beneath the firemans windows?. This was a very distinctive feature of the Crostis / ex- Crostis?. Thank you .
