    The route:
The North Wales coastal runs for roughly 85 miles along the northern Welsh coast, with stunning coastal scenery to view along the way from the spacious windows in the cab of the included stock.

    • Stopping services are operated by TFW using diesel multiple units, with full length runs usually taking just under 2 hours to complete.
    • Express services would be operated by avanti west coast using their voyagers, which take around an hour and a half, although some of TFW's services are limited stop.

This route would also introduce request stops to train sim world, which depending on the time of day may or may not have passengers waiting.
Players would have to slowly drive through the platform and stop for any passengers waiting, if there are no passengers the station may be skipped.

The route also contains a station with the longest name in the uk, which is llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch.

    Major stations and landmarks:

    Holyhead

    +0mi
    Caergybi
Holyhead is the furthest west station on our route, and is the terminus for trains from the WCML and for trains from across Wales.

    Llandudno junction
    +40mi
    Cyffordd Llandudno
This station serves the village of the same name, and is a junction between the north wales coastal line and the Llandudno-Blaenau Ffestiniog line.

    Chester
    +84mi
Located just across the English border, this station is served by avanti west coast, TFW, northern and Merseyrail. And would be our end point for this route.

    Service examples:
Here are a few examples of services on the route.

    Rolling stock:

    Class 175 "coriada"
    Top speed: 100mph
Layers: BCC at birmingham new st, glossop at manchester piccadilly.
The class 175 is a 2 or 3 car diesel multiple unit previously used by transport for Wales, although was replaced by class 197s in 2023.

    Class 221 "super voyager"
    Top speed: 125mph
Layers: Bakerloo line, BCC at birmingham new st, Glossop line at manchester piccadilly.
The class 221 is a 4 or 5 car diesel multiple unit operated by avanti west coast on their rural non electrified routes, these units have wide cab windows with excellent visibility perfect for a scenic route such as this.

    Class 158 "express sprinter"
    Top speed: 90mph
    Layers: Same as 175.
The class 158 would be a reskinned EMR 158, and would operate the same services as the 175.

    Possible DLC:

    Class 805

    Top speed: 125mph
    Layers: N/A
This 5 car electric multiple unit is due to enter service in 2024, and will be replacing the class 221s on this line, although this would require a separate timetable without the voyager or the 175.

    Layers:

    Class 66

    Operates freight and rhtt services.

    Class 40/45
Operates a railtour from Chester to holyhead and back, pulling mk1 coaches.

    IC swallow class 47
Operates a vintage railtour along the full length of the route and back.

    Overall:
The North wales coastal would bring a lot to train sim world, a new country, request stops, voyagers and more, this scenic route could definitely be a great route if done right.

Would love to see this in game. Especially if they added the Llandudno Branch from Llandudno Junction on top of this. Would be good if the game Devs added more coastal routes

Good suggestion! Would be a fine way to introduce Wales to the game. I’d look forward to diving the 220/221 the most. If some way, we could have a transition period between the 158 being phased out for the 197 and the 221/220 for the 805, that would be interesting.

Great route but I would only buy it if it was set in the days of rats, peaks, duffs and for a very short period cromptons

Absolutely this. As said most of the locos and stock to do a classic era route already exist in game. Just need a Rat, some blue/grey Mark Ones and a rake of Mark Two aircon stock for the Eustons. Part of me still hopes this will be JT’s next project, building on the success of BPO.

We definitely need a Welsh route in-game at some point, let alone more modern diesel routes. I would prefer it set when the Class 158/175/221s were all in operation as these trains have the greatest appeal to me, especially the Class 175 and 221 with their large front cab windows for taking in the scenery!

I would obviously like to see it done in the days when there were a blue Diesel on the front, but I think this may well be one of those routes, like Riviera line, where it will be a great route no matter the era it is done in, assuming scenery is top notch.

Sorry to bump this but having been in North Wales recently, it reminded me how badly we need a Welsh route!

I can’t see Chester - Holyhead being done as a full route, although willing to be surprised.

However, I’d settle for Wrexham General-Chester-Llandudno Junction-Llandudno which would give some variety, which seems more viable.
