Well, running on Cajon Pass, I suddenly remarked, that on one mountain, there stands a big "66"... What is it related to? Or is it just some kind of easter egg, that maybe only locals understand. Can't think of a natural created rock formation in that shape...so, does this really exists? And, it seems that Barstow has had quite a remarkable passenger station once, with five platforms and 6 tracks... So, at least a minor passenger hub, I would think. The nowadays 1 train per direction (Southwest Chief) wouldn't really justify this, so what were the other directions, you could once travel to from Barstow by train?
I prefer the Run8 version - it has all tracks and TSW is missing a lot of distant mountains which should be visible, which are there in Run 8. And it's part of a network, no end-to-end route.
Ah now you are making me want to fire up Run 8 when I was just about to start a trip on BPO...! Very populated Socal remains my nemesis, reckon it could take years of play to shift all those cars in and out of the industries.
Alot of older ATSF trains ran thru there, and were probably serviced there too. You had the Super Chief and the El Capitan, between Chicago and Los Angeles, you had the San Francisco Chief between Richmond, CA and Chicago. You had multiple mail trains, plus any local passenger stopping service not covered by the named trains. That whole area used to be the main yard in Barstow, before the larger one that is to the west was built. Some vintage photos from back in the day.
