I'm probably not the only one to share these views but please feel free to add anything you found wrong extra below. The WCL is one of the worse routes in the game. I really want to like it but wherever I go, I find something else that lets it down. I will split this into 2 categories. One for the class 150/2 dmu sprinter and one for the route. Class 150/2 - -Sounds aren't the best. They do for the time being but need to be looked into -AWS/TPWS can't be unisolated in both cabs at the same time as it kicks in the emergency brakes and you will never get a brake release. -Loading into a service, always messes around with the destination boards and usually puts the wrong destination up (usually Penzance) -AI headlights are always consistently wrong. Either headlight on the back and marker on the front or all on one end and 1 headlight on the back. -Cant couple units of the same class. Can never get a brake release, regardless of what you do. -cant couple to other units with same coupler (I know this was a recent addition now that the 158 and the 142 can couple, but if overhauling the unit, might as well make it compatible) -lack of guard panel cover/actual guard panel (again this was an addition after this route was made so might as well make it work) That's all I can think of on the top of my head, please leave more below. WCL Route- -around the stations, it looks quite good but there has been little to no effort on the areas between stations. -some services you can't complete because the AI block themselves into Penzance and the signalling system in the game can't figure out what to do. Again I have e tried many things to overcome this. -Sometimes, the PIS screens read train info in really random orders, sometimes you would have the 1840 to st Austell come before the 09:22 to Penzance... Not sure that makes sense. -I know this one works, but I wouldn't mind it being stepped up a bit. I am referring to the use of other dmu's on the route like the 142 and the 101. Maybe not the 101, but around this time period, they were testing the 142 out on branch lines etc but it barley makes an appearance on the route. Again these are only my experiences and may not have picked up on everything. I have also reported a few times to rivet about this but as per usual, nothing happens. Again, I would really like to love this route but with all these issues that haven't been resolved, nearly 2 years into he route... Makes you think... Many thanks
It’d be nice if someone went back to that DLC for sure, but I think there are parts of it beyond saving. Could have been a lovely scenic Cornwall route but the scenery is, to be frank, not from Cornwall & the rolling stock is a mish-mash of era’s in varying states of quality. To be honest I’d of happily let it die, but it’s still the only route where the 150 is utilised. Someone really needs to rescue it & get it on a better route.
Best treated as a fictional route where you can thrash the classic diesels a bit, even if the Class 40 in West Cornwall is total fiction!
Why would you want both ends to have unisolated/active AWS/TPWS? You're only meant to have it unisolated/active for the cab you're driving from that's what's setting off the emergency brakes Do you mean the loco hauled services? If so there is a station pilot (class 08) that releases them from the platform so they can head back out. Now I might have misunderstood what you meant with these 2 points but that's my take on them, however the rest for the route I generally agree with. The points for the 150 meh give or take with it. I'll say this though don't expect any fixes or improvements to WCL especially for the 150, people have been on at Rivet about the issues since it was released and not much has been done to it.
I totally get where you are coming from with the AWS/TPWS, but in reality, they are always unisolated on units, they only are activated when the control desk is activated, it's to have that authentic AWS/TPWS sound when you shift the reverser into neutral and DSD kick in when you put the reverser into forwards or backwards. As for the bit around Penzance, there is a queue of 150's and loco hauled services waiting to get in and out of Penzance on a certain service as every time, the signals get all confused leaving 2 150's sitting outside Penzance and a 150 and loco hauled services stuck on the platforms at Penzance. Maybe I should have explained better but you points are totally valid
Yes AWS & the other systems’ isolations aren’t treated as they are in reality, but this is to not force them upon players who don’t wish to use them. Coupled with Rivets ‘alternative’ development style it compounds the underlying cause.
If you bought WCL just for the Class 150, then you are doing it wrong. The class 158 was only available on MML, but now it is being updated and reskinned for the new Fife Circle route. So the people who waited until now are going to be the ones that benefitted, especially if they had no interest in the actual MML route to begin with. The Class 150 will no doubt be released for another new route in the future, and will probably be a better, upgraded version when it does come back. So people need to have some patience, and not rush to buy a route just for the included rolling stock, because you'll only have buyers remorse later.
It’s certainly an easy stance to take now, not so much when WCL was actually released & we were stuck in a world of EMUs.
What do you mean by "not from Cornwall? The scenery needs an update but it seems fairly accurate and Cornish.
Ah I see, I learnt something new about the 150 and AWS, now I'm definitely not someone who knows the ins and outs of trains, or the differences between sub classes etc I just like trains lol. Around Penzance with the AI queueing up I've not had that to an extreme point when I've been playing it's usually just the odd service waiting for 5 minutes while the station pilot sorts things out, but it honestly wouldn't surprise me with the AI being a dumbass in TSW. I'll have to keep an eye out for that, do you know roughly what time is happens?
Too many trees and forests where there should be fields. All those tree stumps along some sections of the line. Some very odd interpretation of what constitutes a foot level crossing. Missing lineside fencing in some locations. Lower case instead of an upper case where there should be a capital letter on one of the signs at Truro. In the Up direction, St Ives branch has an incorrect 20 MPH speed restriction which only applies over a foot crossing and should revert to 30 MPH after passing it. Rivet know about this but have chosen to ignore the issues.
That is one of my biggest pet hates in TSW. Whilst I can understand the error creeping in I simply don't understand (a) How it got through beta testing? and (b) Why it hasn't been fixed? The error completely destroys the St Ives branch driving experience.
No absolutely, but I think your missing my point, if I leave them unisolated in the back cab but lock the desk (like in real life) but when I pull away in the opposite cab, it applies the emergency brakes, so I go to the back cab and the DSD is just peeping away, I then isolate it but the brakes never release and I have to start the scenario again...
I absolutely agree with this, but this was released nearing on 2 years ago now, and just waiting, never knowing...it got the better of me...plus I also got this route when this was new and I spend alot of time in the area...wasn't expecting it to be bad as it was a brand new route but here we are.
I’ve noticed as well that some AI services have trouble leaving Penzance but I don’t think it’s the fault of the signaling system. At least not fully. One particular service is 1C80 where you will drive from Cornwall all the way to Penzance just to find… well… This… Never seen anything like this in TSW before. Something must’ve gotten mixed up somehow. As a result, your train will be held up at a red signal right outside the junction entering the route terminus and will never show clear. The service was unfortunately not complete-able in TSW 3, but obviously in TSW 4, you now have the ability to delete monstrosities such as this one. Can’t be too upset, however. Got the opportunity to take some pretty cool railshots:
142s had been and gone by the time the route is set but it's a nice addition to have and I love driving the 142 down the St Ives branch however first generation units were still knocking around deepest darkest Cornwall at the time. But yeah I would like to see the route swap in 142s and 101s. Heck I'd even like to see downloaded liveries for 150s appear more frequently. A couple of weeks ago I saw one at St Erth in a downloaded livery and it was the first time in over a year I'd seen one in anything other than RR livery
Thanks for the answer, i do think the route could do with a remake as i would like to see it brought upto TSW4 standards though on the subject of trees Cornwall is quite wooded, a lot more than say Mid Wales or Lincolnshire so i can see why they added a lot of trees though probably as you say too many!
I find it odd that some people find it acceptable for Rivet to leave it as it is. Maybe an incorrect speed limit or terrible sounds isn't game-breaking, but if the whole point of the video game is to give a decent driving experience then I'd argue they are pretty major bugs.
What are you expecting people to do, hold a mass protest outside their company offices or something? Rivet Games never go back to fix their old routes, because once they have your money they don't care anymore, and DTG always say nothing because they aren't going to risk upsetting their money-making third-party DLC creators. Can you find a post on this forum, where a DTG staff member openly says a single negative thing to a third-party partner? Final score: Rivet Games 1 - 0 Unhappy customers
They'd be in trouble for saying negative stuff as it reflects bad on the company as a whole, and they'd likely lose their job over it.
