What I don't understand is that the route can be wonderful... But no, no railtours, no freight, no ECS, empty depot, horrible scenery, sounds too quiet. A 158 coming with another add-on, and maybe a branch of 5 miles added if one day it opens in real life... Edit: And why no RHTT layer ?? It's Scotland of course you need a train to clean everything with that weather !!!! Hurray !
This is the worst preview they’ve ever done. What an absolute disaster this looks. Even Matt sounds incredibly upset at how bad it is. Rivet have done it again. Dreadful.
Rivet seem to do the absolute minimum. I've been watching the stream and haven't seen another train. The lack of railtours or engineering/freight trains is just bizarre. It is like they've found an interesting route and tried to make it as boring as possible Oh and I'm still waiting for West Cornwall and the 150 to be fixed
Feedback so far looking at the timetable from the livestream only 97 services for the 170 is very poor plus no railtours or anything the only thing that can save the timetable is if the class 158 by skyhook will hopefully add more and some railtours On a positive not the sounds on the 170 are a lot better and the route looks pretty good
I think Matt has admitted that he has got the wrong build for the preview stream (i.e. not the latest). Also no announcements.
West Cornwall is a WIP. It's been released for several years and still hasn't been fixed. Don't hold your breath.
It's not good, just goes to show that a short route done well like Goblin is arguably a better thing to buy than a route with apparently cartoon graphics like this one.
I don’t think a route has ever changed very much between preview and release, especially not when there’s about a week left, I imagine final build is submitted.
Alright, so. Looking at the stream, I think the route itself and the loco look great, minus the odd low detail assets from 1999. The only major letdown is the utter lack of layers from other routes. I wish we got a freight layer with it, because honestly the tracks feel a little empty with the infrequent passenger services.
Dude. This route had a bad omen from the very start. The constant arguments in the threads and stuff and now the showcase was not only a let down but is a massive disgrace to the real thing. It's not WIP it's the final build. And it looks absolute LOVE. Not even the 158 can save this. This is just New York to Trenton all over again
Also do not buy a single promise they make about fixing this route. They have a history of misleading people on that front. What is released is what you are getting. And this is an unfinished mess that will never get fixed. Save your money for Semmeringbahn or go buy Blackpool or Niddertalbahn if you don’t own them. Those developers put the work in and deserve money. Rivet deserve nothing.
I was worried about all the wrong things with this DLC. Rivet have proven they can do extremely good scenery…these are the devs that did Cathcart & Bernina, two of the best sceneries in TSW. Then the timetable…we have one of those rare routes in its fullest, that has a very diverse timetable IRL, and Rivet just leave over a third of it out? Why on earth Haymarket TMD is empty is beyond me, E2G was acceptable as we didn’t have anything that could be there realistically, but this pinnacle diesel route should absolutely see that depot populated. It’s pretty slimy that the tram depot is populated but not Haymarket. Jasper commented that “we’re always working on new stuff”, but maybe that’s not such a gloat, Rivet are releasing way too much DLC that has pretty glaring issues, which are being left behind. Fife Circle is looking set to join those DLC’s. Rivet literally just released their class 66 DLC & then didn’t use it for this route? What on earth has happened? Too much time making trash man sim scenarios & forgetting the stuff that matters. I was so relieved to hear the 170 actually sounded so much better than I was expecting, then the longer I watch this preview the more deflated it makes me. Rivet cannot be allowed to keep doing this, it’s exhausting having them take such iconic routes & stock, then doing this.
The timetable is quite quiet and has less services than I expected but they say they are working on other services. However, I wonder if they are waiting for the class 158 to be released. I must admit I think the route largely looks pretty decent, certainly not shambolic. There are some rather low res looking houses I must admit. The Forth Bridge looked very impressive.
I was going to be buying this on release myself but after seeing the above and parts of the stream I won’t be. I feel for the people who have pre ordered this on steam.
This is the first preview stream in TSW history that I've actually turned off before it was over. I'm disappointed, saddened and I know this sounds a bit ridiculous but I could actually feel myself getting annoyed. What a wasted opportunity. I really can't see how in rivets opinion this route is finished. I would list whats wrong with it but won't for two reasons. One.....someone else is sure to do it. Two....I'm not sure how long id be sitting here writing for! The fact that the Goblin was released only yesterday really does put into perspective the contrast in quality. Completed dissatisfied with the end result.
That's an insult to Wii Sports! Honestly, this route looks dreadful. How can DTG allow Rivet to release it in such a state with a poor timetable.. DTG need to force their hand and force a delay so that Rivet can bring it up to acceptable standards.
Overall the route is good/decent. I would replace some models immediately, if I were in Rivet. The 170 looks good. Rating: 6/10. I'll buy it when it's 60% on sale .
the bridge looked nicely modelled and the area around looked a lot better than I feared for that scenic part, though I still wonder if you will be able to see end to end as shown on the stream on XSX, due to the draw distance limit it won’t be as good looking driving to a white void if not
On a side note. Just to add that when serious questions are being asked in the comments regarding realism such as timetables, formations and service quantity such as layer and additional content I found it rather annoying that the main topic was about plushies, toys and other non related train sim topics that bear no relation to driving a service which is what I'm assuming most of us are here to do!
They answered questions about formations and how realistic the time table was and about extra services!
I’d say the route looks average, maybe even slightly below. Some people are saying the 170 sounds good or better than expected, others are saying it doesn’t sound good at all. Scenery looks average (the exception being the Fourth bridge and the surrounding area) and from the screenshots people have posted some parts just look unacceptable and do I even need to mention the timetable? From the looks of it, I’d give it a 5/10
I'm sorry..... what sounds? Either there's something wrong with my headphones or the cab is totally silent!! Yes, I'm aware it's insulated, but 100%? There's no feel to it at all, no track noise, nothing, until you wind down the windows. I would have to drive with the windows down 24/7 all year long. Or check my pulse every few minutes. I must say the train model looks very good. But, instead of focussing on things like aircraft and ships in the Firth of Forth ( is that right? ), Rivet chose to have escalators and plush toys ( I thought we were done with that nonsense ). No auto announcements in a build that's only 5 days from release? The water in the foreground looks quite good but gets a bit fuzzy in the distance. The big bridge is very impressive, but shouldn't there be some rumble from the train ( metal on metal? )? Tunnel lighting very poor. I'll watch the rest of the stream later to " see " if the night lighting is any good. I lost count of the number of questions about content from the chat which Jasper answered with a flat- out " No ". Just a few random thoughts from the first half of the stream. Not sure if this route is quite polished enough for prime time, though. Rather disappointing at this point, as I thought this might be a purchase for me.
If they are using the wrong build it seems it will have the opposite effect of what they intend by showing the route off as it is clearly putting people off. It seems quite a fundamental mistake to make surely you want to use the best version to show your route off!
Apparently everything was planned since at least October 2023, because that's where the package for the DLC was published
I wasn't defending the answer but they did answer these questions. Jasper said a few times that they were looking at other services.
They are quiet, but they are IRL (and for once Matt can get away with that one, as opposed to just using it as a cover). There are things missing for sure, which Nathan has covered. I still maintain that these are some of Rivets better sounds. As always, the stream doesn’t help, you won’t get a true sense on the soundset until you get it in game (Jamie shouting the whole stream didn’t help).
I can see the route looking pretty steep at £30 for many, I would also have said the same about Edinburgh Glasgow, though fife seems an improvement on that one provided a lot of bad bugs ain’t going to be found at launch.
The class 170 sounded better than I expected. I will wait for one of the Ambassador streams hopefully on the proper build before I decide to buy this. I don't think the route looks awful though.
On the note of the stream - I feel that the presentation in this stream has been really poor. Matt's rushed through the route (with no Alex/JD to stop him), and hasn't had a look around any stations or places of note (other than Waverley, the Forth Bridge and Stark's Park) Jamie - an excellent host of livestreams, usually - has been more useful for fun facts. Jasper - well, "we're looking at it" or "not at release" have been on repeat like a broken record. No harm to any of the three but, as far as **preview** streams go, there hasn't been much of an effort to **preview** the route.
