Welcome to the Unofficial Screenshot Competition
This is a fun and friendly alternative to the official Screenshot Competition run by DTG.
Here you can share your weekly themed TSC screenshots using any 3rd party / post shot editing etc. creations which are not allowed in the official competition.
    Rules:
    • TSC only shots allowed.
    • Screenshot should be in some way (can be very tenuous) linked to the theme. Otherwise anything goes.
    • You can enter up to 3 screenshots, posted as separate posts. You can delete and replace if you wish.
    • 3rd party content / Reshades / Reskins etc. are welcomed but are not mandatory.
    • Previous week's winner to decide winner (can't enter themselves).
    • The winner chooses the new theme for next week (and becomes the new judge).
    • The Judge of the week's decision is final.
    • We strongly discourage any negative comment or criticism of another entry by a fellow contributor, this is a light hearted & fun contest! This is a major "we are all friendly" thread and we hope it will always remain so.
    • Please keep chat to an absolute minimum.
Entries will close at 9:00 PM GMT on Friday, March 29th 2024 and will be judged by me - cscarpenter
In the event of this weeks winner not responding by 5:00 PM GMT Sunday, March 31st, a new thread will be created using the theme with the highest votes in this weeks poll.

Theme for this week : "Freight Trains & Bridges"
Feel free to interpret the theme however you wish.
Good luck to all, but most importantly, remember to have fun.

Is nice, but since the train reflection is floating in the air I would not call it amazing.

I think you have room within the base game already. Your settings seem to be on the low end.
One typical thing to note is that zoom (mouse wheel) doesn't affect asset rendering, resulting in lo-fi. In some cases, works well.
If you review my screenshots, they're entirely vanilla.
Most importantly, if you keep taking shots and judging them afterwards (which ones are the best and why), you'll gradually improve. Also comparing them to others.

Also, while rendering quality matters, composition and theme are play an important role.
It always helps to watch a couple videos about photographing basics, composition, etc.

That’s a rude way to put it. I didn’t even notice the bridge at first; it’s a good shot but more attention could be paid to details like that would be my way to put it. Also I think they were referring to other shots in the contest so far with enhancements being amazing from my understanding.

Personally I don’t believe enhancements are necessary to participate for wins so hopefully the user doesn’t feel pressured to buy a few; admittedly it makes winning easier but we have had winners without graphics enhancements in the past. Whatever the user prefers for their game though is up to them and what they do with their money (ReShade is free of course though but the likes of RW Enhancer and AP enhancements are not).
Welcome to the unofficial contest vogelm10 :D
It’s great to see new faces!

Yeah...I've only been taking train photos irl for like 30 years by now so I most likely don't understand the basics of photography at all . And yes I was implying the other photos with graphic packs looked amazing.

To get the bridge to reflect in the water make sure water detail is at maximum.

If you want to increase your graphic settings and re-submit, not a problem.
Just ignore the likes of WoodlandTracks they don't take part or commit to this thread, just feel it is fine to fire off one sentence criticisms to suit (they have been reported). Welcome aboard, loving your contributions so far.:D

Only months after leaving the factory, three of Conrail's brand new EMD SD40-2s hustle BC-1 (the daily South Boston to Elkhart Indiana manifest) west over the B&A in the summer of 1977, while New England's industrial decline was very much underway by this point, the B&A was still a busy trunk route with 16 daily road freights over the eastern portion of the line alone (as well as a variety of locals, two Amtrak trains and seven commuter trains on the newly formed MBTA) 20240221190221_1.jpg

Graphics enhancements absolutely help (I run the old AP weather on most of my routes for example) but a lot can be done by just tweaking the base game graphics settings to make the default weather look better, this shot for example (not a competition entry) was taken with just the default weather, no reshade or RWE.

While the weather on the Settle & Carlisle rarely favoured the photographer, the morning of 20th August 1966 is bright and clear. As such, the photographer has been able to enjoy a snap of Holbeck-based Jubilee 45697 Achilles as it slogs across Ribblehead Viaduct having been checked at a signal.

While the Woodhead line mostly saw electric traction, steam also made quite an appearance, and today was no exception. Morning all, apologies for my lateness in posting the results it has been one of "those" weekends.
Firstly can I thank every single one of you for your entries, this has been one of the best weeks so far for the quantity and quality of shots on show, also great to see new contributors, welcome to all.
Enough waffle, here we go, tough as it has been to select winners from this amazing collection I have decided to go with the following:-
In Joint 3rd Place we have cunningn#3154 for this wonderful combination of 1850s freight on an old rickety Trestle Bridge. Godmanchester river crossing by J15.jpg
and vogelm10 for this stunning SNCF capture, it just screams out "Freight & Bridge". Well done.
    upload_2024-3-25_23-31-40.jpeg
In Joint 2nd Place I have gone with Craigie-C for this Glorious combination on the Stainmore Route............. 20240326172523_1.jpg
...... and also Blazin for this wonderful offering, love the low angle and the terrific texture of the wooden bridge reflected in the water.
    EMD GP40 1.jpg
Finally I am proud to announce this weeks winner as Lily_Yoshimi for this superb Class 31 engineering train going about it's daily business. Love the idea of the misty dull day as an alternative to bright sunlight, it makes for a terrific moody, atmospheric image. Great choice well done.
    20240208203341_1.jpg
Over to you Lily_Yoshimi to take us all forward to Week 14, the choice of theme is all yours, as you are now the proud owner of our wonderful Virtual Golden Master Key.
Many Congratulations to all for making my choice so hard..

What a great week, loved every entry, well done to all concerned.
Major good wishes to Lily_Yoshimi for a stunning shot, worthy winner in my books.
Many thanks cscarpenter for the runners up placing. Totally unexpected given the quality of opposition.

Hi Lily; I recommend picking a theme that is less specific to a country as when you say The Midland Region it is specifically referring to the UK yes? If you would like to see something like the Midlands in the contest you will be judging for Week 14 but keeping it general so any country or place could apply, you could choose something like “Rural / Remote Areas”? It is up to you of course what you want to choose to make the theme less specific but that is what I would do myself.
Just to make sure you know once you are happy with your theme choice you will make a new thread under Creation Centre [the section of the TSC forums this thread was created in] name it the Unofficial Screenshot Contest 2024 Week 14 and copy and paste from the original post of this thread that cscarpenter made and simply change that you are the judge; the deadline and the theme. Then shortly after the deadline is over choose your top 3 screenshots of the week.
Good luck, let us know if you need any further help we are happy to assist. :)

[To those who frequent this thread I recommend we implement some kind of a judge recommendation rule to pick general themes; not country specific themes or other specific themes in general as it isn’t stated and often I see newer contributors, even myself at one point after participating for over a year, pick a specific theme that barely anyone participated in]

Gotcha. So if continuing with this theme would a “midlands” geographic region of any country / place count for your theme? If so I think that’s absolutely fine to go with. :)
Either way though I’ll still participate if I have some screenshots to offer; what I’m saying is mostly a recommendation so more people can participate as some people who want to contribute might not even drive trains in the UK in TSC.

Please forgive my intrusion but may I offer some advice on the new thread you have set up for week 14.
The competition always closes at 21:00 on the Friday evening not the Sunday. This allows the judge (yourself next weekend) hopefully more time for selecting and announcing the winners and also for competitors to have the chance to upload to the new theme over the weekend when again hopefully they have possibly more spare time for those that work or at school etc. during the week.
You need to also change the date of a "no response" to 5:00 PM Sunday 7th April not Sunday March 31st as that has now gone.
    In essence it should read:-

Entries will close at 9:00 PM BST on Friday, April 5th 2024 and will be judged by me - Lily Yoshimi
In the event of this weeks winner not responding by 5:00 PM BST Sunday, April 7th, a new thread will be created using the theme with the highest votes in this weeks poll.

You may, if you prefer, take the option of offering a theme of Freestyle as a theme as opposed to running a Poll if we get a "No Show" that is entirely up to you.
Please feel free to shout if you have any queries, or require any help or guidance.
    Best wishes

No need for apologies, I remember my first ever win, I practically bottled it trying to come up with a theme and working out how to post the thread LOL. As the saying goes "Every day brings new challenges, just remember to embrace and enjoy". ;)

Just thought I would offer a bit of advice when choosing a theme for the week in this competition.
As I live within the area you have chosen it floats my boat, big time.
On saying that spare a thought for our participants from the USA, Canada, Germany, Austria....................Australia............Brazil...........etc. the list is endless.
Narrowing the theme down to a minority audience discludes possible contributions from folks that have no interest or do not own DLC of that region.
May I suggest moving forward you offer our comp to the widest audience possible.
    Best Regards
