I'm new here so still learning and investigating stuff, is there a route that is long where I/we can test out new engines, like giving them a good thrash and hight speed and see how and when to slow them down, how fast they pick up speed how fast the drcrease speed without using the breaks etc.
I know we can go on the learning centre but I mean long run where we are free to try all this out without signal stops etc.

ECML from Peterborough to Doncaster. 80 miles of pretty much 100 MPH plus track.

Would also recommend Marseille Avignon for testing trains, big drops and high inclines, fast and decently long.

I am surprised no one has mention Kassel-Wurzburg yet. 186km of German high speed running.

I ran a high speed last night, I know one thing if it was real and not on the PC not sure my heart would take it going at those speeds, I used to ride a motorcycle once as well but not anymore lol.
It was fun giving it a blast, one thing that got me thinking was the level crossings are not marked on the running track thing in the top right like it has the signals etc, reason is I did see a 'W' prior to some but not all, I was late sounding the horn and I missed some as well, I never got any penalties for not sounding though.

Whistle boards are scenery, and I'm not sure if all have been put in place, but hey.

Actually, the LNER driver in the TSW video from LNER said that some of the whistle boards aren't there in real life!

The game doesn't know where whistle boards are, in the same way it doesn't know where trees are.
