Welcome to the Unofficial Screenshot Competition This is a fun and friendly alternative to the official Screenshot Competition run by DTG. Here you can share your weekly themed TSC screenshots using any 3rd party / post shot editing etc. creations which are not allowed in the official competition. Rules: TSC only shots allowed. Screenshot should be in some way (can be very tenuous) linked to the theme. Otherwise anything goes. You can enter up to 3 screenshots, posted as separate posts. You can delete and replace if you wish. 3rd party content / Reshades / Reskins etc. are welcomed but are not mandatory. Previous week's winner to decide winner (can't enter themselves). The winner chooses the new theme for next week (and becomes the new judge). The Judge of the week's decision is final. We strongly discourage any negative comment or criticism of another entry by a fellow contributor, this is a light hearted & fun contest! This is a major "we are all friendly" thread and we hope it will always remain so. Please keep chat to an absolute minimum. Entries will close at 9:00 PM GMT on Friday, April 12th 2024 and will be judged by me - Craigie-C In the event of this weeks winner not responding by 5:00 PM GMT Sunday, April 14th, a new thread will be created using the theme with the highest votes in this weeks poll. Theme for this week : "Crossing" (Road crossing, trains crossing, river crossing, crossing tracks ...... it's entirely up to you, as long as something is crossing something somewhere in your shot, then go for it.) Feel free to interpret the theme however you wish. Good luck to all, but most importantly, remember to have fun.
One of Norfolk Southern's brand new* SD70ACUs trundles along what is legally a three quarter mile long grade crossing along Main St. in West Brownsville PA with a load of 122 empty hoppers on a mine run along the Mon Line. *they're rebuilds

What a great theme for this week and I may not be able to participate since I’m still on holiday for the next few days! Maybe when I get home on Friday (northern hemisphere time) I’ll be able to make it just in time with some submissions from me!!
"Crossing The Crossing" The year is 1995, and 86208 (which is fully owned by RES for mail services, despite keeping the InterCity livery), speeds over the diamond crossing just North of Newark on the ECML with the London Kings Cross to Edinburgh RES Mail train, bathed in the glow of the, low in the sky, setting sun. Loco:- AP Class 86, ATS Imbue RES Mail carriages. Route:- ATS ECML Kings Cross - Leeds - York Merge.
Sacramento Northern heading through Oakland California and past the interlocking tower where the main line splits off from the branch.
And here I am cheating with my own line I'm working on! This is an Oshawa bound local headed by 2 CN SD40-2W's over the crossing at Cobbledick Road just outside of Newcastle Ontario as a CN Dash 9 waits for the signals to clear for it's ride continuing up the Kingston District towards Cobourg and later on it's namesake. So far the map hasn't crashed from adding in these signals but here's to hoping the luck continues for the rest of the build.
Route: Koln-Koblenz Train: Vr DB BR 152, Vr DB BR 185.2 Spotted in the early hours of a july morning at Bruhl.
31128 'Charybdis' and 31271 'Stratford 1840 - 2001' double head the return of a BLS special. The pair had just set off from Holyhead to return to Oxford, and are seen here passing the crossing at Valley. Route: North Wales Coast TfW Edition Loco: PW 31128/VP 31271
An over and under crossing of a pair of freight trains just outside of Toton on the MML. Locos:- Class 66, Class 60 Route:- JT Midland Mainline
Nice, taking these old MEA+TTA wagons for a spin I've been running these about 3 years ago (with the 33).
Let the spam commence. I would appreciate a rule change, allowing for a single post. That aside. 1) Route: Weardale & Teesdale Network Scenario: Parson Byers Lime Quarry (TobBirk) Stock: Class 101 BR Green
2) A little earlier, back when I was still hoping to see a last sprinkling of snow. Route: East Coast Mainline, British Rail (simonmd) Scenario: My own green-maroon photo free roam Stock: Class BR-5MT Green, Coach Mk1 Maroon
3) Now the stretch. I considered a few Rio Grande and P30CH shots, the latter in the same location, different angle. (For some reason couldn't upload.) Crossing a lake, okay? Route: Pacific Surfliner Scenario: Quick Drive, San Diego to Los Angeles Stock: EMD F7 SP-BW, Coach ACF SP Fun fact: The never ending refinement of tags - beside the Black Widow, there is of course the Bloody Nose livery.
A bit of a German "Crossing a Crossing" situation captured during a quick run tonight. Looks like the barriers are pointing the way to go, love it. Loco:- vR EL DB151 Route:- Regensburg – Ingolstadt P.S. Craigie-C Loving the theme, what a great choice.
Why??? I support the "more the merrier" format. Why would you want cut down to 1 post each? The fun and enjoyment of this thread is that you can interpret the theme in (currently) 3 different ways. Just look at this week's theme. My 3 options this week are:- Crossing a Diamond Crossing. Two Freight trains crossing under and over a bridge. A German freight train on a road crossing Why would I want to ditch two of those options so they are never to be seen by the community? Is that not the main reason this thread exists, for us all to share a fantastic array of great screenshots for all the world to see? Why change something that does not need changing?
I totally agree, 3 postings each has worked ever since this thread was created, and to my mind is the perfect compromise from being spammed by 15 posts from 1 contributor, or the restriction of only 1 or 2 shots, as is allowed in the official comp. The current format works, no need for change. By the way, you only have 12 mins left to enter this weeks comp. I will be announcing my winner shortly. loving your contributions, they are all amazing.
Okey Dokey, Judging time has arrived. Firstly a massive thank you to all for making my decision so hard, it really has been one fantastic week of amazing shots by all of you. I hereby announce the podium places as:- In joint 3rd place DrTrenchcoat for this (for me) educational shot of the 3/4 mile crossing along Main St. in West Brownsville PA. and vogelm10 for this wonderful crossing of 2 classic US Locos. Joint 2nd place and runners up for this week are ................... vogelm10 for this terrific capture of a train crossing itself, fantastic take on the theme, well done. and cscarpenter for this great pointy barrier image of a a DB BR151 freight train. Finally, first place and the honour of taking over the virtual Golden Master Key just has to go to trainsandgames for this stunning capture. The location, time of day, choice of Loco, everything, just made for the most wonderful immersive image of two classic trains, from two completely different era's meeting head to head, crossing on on a diamond crossing. Including the " For The Fallen" liveried Class 91 was just sheer genius, I commend you. trainsandgames You have the honour of leading us forward into week 16. Thank you.
Oh my, I wasn't specific enough. 1 post with 3 pictures. As an option. Instead of having to post all of them individually.
Keep it as it is, it has worked fine since conception. Posting single screenshots allows for deleting or changing a single shot easily. 1 post with 3 pictures just causes confusion and an unnecessary complication which is not needed.
Totally agree with keeping the format the way it is. It works, and has worked since this competition started. It's not broken, why change it for a system that will cause confusion and unnecessary complication to a process that seems to be amiable to the vast majority of current users? Being able to delete / change a single contribution is one of the major reasons this thread is so successful.
Congratulations to the winners! Looks like you were quite on time with the results so didn’t have time to sneak in a last minute submission. Also in regards to other discussions I agree things could keep going the way things are in relation to posting each screenshot submission separately. Looks and works best that way; and we have had no problems from what I am aware. The classic “if it ain’t broke why fix it?” phrase comes in here.
Aww gutted, love to see your shots. Sorry, i am normally useless at sticking to timescales.Trust me to pick this week to be prompt. Here's to next week, I am sure you will make up for lost time.
Thanks for you kind feedback, it is much appreciated. I can not personally take the praise for running this comp. It has been going for nigh on 2-3 years with various contributors taking the reins each week. I personally believe that is why this thread has survived as long as it has. Long may it continue Best Regards
Thanks for the great theme this week Craigie-C! I absolutely enjoyed choosing the appropriate pictures and congrats to the winners!
I'm going to let everyone know that I'm going to make my 3rd entry a joke one each week and always have an Amtrak HHP8 in it. Because that engine is awesome! Congrats to the winner this week!
Oh yeah! Locomoto-fied Acela Express rules!! Also trainsandgames we hope to see you respond to your deserved 1st place announcement soon for a new weekly thread and theme under your judgement! [It says trainsandgames was last active on Thursday (might be marked as Wednesday for you northern hemisphere folk!) at 4:43AM ([7:43PM BST, 10:43PM GST) for me]. If you don't respond in time we will have to make a new thread for a new week with the highest voted back-up theme poll which at the moment seems that will be "Trackside Signage". However I'm sure if you don't end up responding in time and Craigie-C sets up the new thread with the backup theme and you see this after that new thread is up but not closed for the week yet; I reckon you can resume judging responsibilities however with the loss of not being able to choose your own theme as we would be sticking to the Trackside Signage theme as people may have already submitted screenshots or running scenarios / taking specific screenshots for said theme if / when posted up if all are in agreement.
Seeing as we have not heard from trainsandgames I will set up next weeks thread with the theme "Trackside Signage" as that was the favourite option in this week's poll. [EDIT] New thread is up and running. If we hear from trainsandgames he can happily take over the judging if he likes. https://forums.dovetailgames.com/threads/unofficial-screenshot-competition-2024-week-16.80645/
Sorry guys, slipped my mind to check until now because of revision and life things! Thank you for the win, I'll happily judge this week on the current thread.
No worries, it's all yours from here on. Life can really get in the way of TSC if you let it LOL. The thought of revision scares the LOVE out of me, I can barely remember what I had for breakfast. If you are struggling for time over the coming weekend just shout and we can sort something out. Good luck.
