https://live.dovetailgames.com/live/train-sim-world/articles/article/tsw2-roadmap-8-march-2022 Hi! I noticed that many newer routes if not all do not use the newer rusty rails at switches etc. that it mentioned and pictured in this article. Is it just forgotten or is there some reason for that?
I think it has to be done an ‘as per’ basis, and I reckon DTG are auto genning track at this point, so that’s likely why we don’t see it.
That's part of the charme you still get from the older routes. And IMHO one of the reasons why you perceive most of the recent routes as 'lifeless', 'steril' or 'anemic'. It is why I love to be on foot on NTP or TVL, but wouldn't care on Maintalbahn, as an example. By all means let the automation lay the tracks, it's 2024 after all. But then you have to brush over the most evident inconsistencies. Not everything was better in the past, but some things WERE. TVL had it all figured: But even JT sinned on BPO: And those are my favorites. Probably the interns are sent with a toothbrush to clean these tracks every day. Right?: Why's there nothing to cover this? A bush, litter or garbage, a donkey's ass, pink cat corpses ........ whatever. But nooooooo, this kind of track layout just shouts at me: "Gimme your cash, shut up, bugger off and get the next route! Suckaaaaaa!" *SIGH*
A polished and reflective rail head all the way through the terminal and further looks good? Hmmm, I dunno ... :headscratch: Actually I came across a stop in Traunstein on Salzburg - Rosenheim that shows that DTG DO know very well how to do it right ------> Sorry to suspect laziness if a majority of those terminals are not following the last example. To me it smells like automatic track laying with a manual finish skipped. A pity, really!
...which surprises me a bit, at NID and Maintalbahn we still have these faded rails. So far there has been no update to adapt these to the standard rails like on other TSW routes, where they realistically shine. This makes them look like in the TSC. But TSW runs on UE, so you shouldn't skimp on nice effects when they are available. Such a fading or dulling of the glossy effect actually only occurs when the rails have not been ridden for a long time, as corrosion slowly progresses. But then they turn into a rusty brown color. Practically speaking, something is probably missing in the material settings of the tracks or in the shader that is responsible for the shiny effect. I found a screenshot that I once took in TSW3. Using the example of the level crossing in NID, you can see how the inner rails along the cover plate shine due to the regular driving over of car tires, while the tracks appear dull and faded. If this effect were improved, NID would be even more beautiful than it already is.
