Hi all, Just wondering what you folks would recommend in terms of routes to play which are long. Ideally over an hour in length end to end etc, fun, and have lots of variety etc. Any suggestions?
Brighton Main Line. If you own all the layers. SEHS is long if you play the class 395 and lots of variety, again if you own all the layers. Dresden Risa is another if you own all the layers. It's the layers that add the variety.
SEHS is my most played route. There's enough there to keep me busy for a few years at least, that's with all layers as well. No runs on this route are particularly long (except the St Pancras to Faversham runs and the season 465s between Dartford and Faversham) but with all layers it becomes entertaining even driving for 10 minutes. BML is a good route even without layers (over 1,000 services with the Class 377 alone), although they add more depth to the route. Best services to drive are between London Victoria and East Croydon as that's where the bulk of services lie. Basically, variety sells. Some DLCs, even if not used, are worth it just for the layers they have on other routes.
I find the BML not that fun because of the stuttering etc that occurs even on modern consoles and its almost immersion breaking.
I can't say I've had any stuttering, at least not that I've seen. Then again I haven't played it much lately. But in all honesty, that's the only bad part about it (well that, and the 700 not there on console). Even to this day, it still stands out to me as one of the best.
ECML is the longest UK in the sim with a good opportunity to thrash the Azuma non stop from Peterborough to Doncaster, only downside being the very quiet sounds. LFR aka West Rhine is one of the longer German conventional routes (SKW is longer but 50% in tunnel or tall viaducts) with a mixture of fast and more sedate running and the very loud DB BR 103 electric loco. For the US, all a matter of degree. Clinchfield isn't that long but the low speed limits mean it can take 90 minutes to get from one end to the other. The (relatively) new Antelope Valley is quite long but is a bit of a crawl in the middle section.
