    Hi folks,

I have searched and seen several references to this issue, but only sporadically.

My 3080 is overheating and experiencing thermal shutdowns using TSW4, but only on certain routes. This is pretty shocking because I haven't seen anything like this with any other game. On certain (newer) routes, I regularly experience thermal shutdowns from my GPU (NJT & Goblin, specifically).

I have removed all mods, including, engine.ini and graphics mods, and it still happens at some point on both those routes, and occasionally others (eg. Harlem). I updated my drivers and cleared all shader caches that I could locate. I am logging with GPU-Z, so I know the shutdown happens around 104C temp at the Hot Spot thermistor. I pulled all my graphic settings back to High, then to Medium but the issue still happens. I have never been able to complete an end-to-end run of Goblin because of this.

I have never seen a GPU temp above 75C on any sensor using another game. Never had any issues with TSW3 or TS Classic. Only TSW4 on the newer routes.

My case is clean. I blow out the dust regularly.

Really pissed off. Any suggestions appreciated!

    Ambient temperature?
    Adequate airflow in case?
Do the fans work on your GPU?

I'd take it apart and repaste it. As convenient as it is to blame software, you have a hardware problem.

I run TSW4 on a potato PC with a GTX1650 and can honestly say never had an issue like this. Yes it occasionally hitches and stutters but never sends the hardware into overdrive. So as Cactusjuice suggests, something else probably at fault.

I see you have removed mods as I have noticed myself GodMode and its associated environment settings does cause a drop in frame rate. Are you running DX12 or DX11? If the former maybe try reverting to 11. Have you done a deep scan for viruses and malware? Windows Defender and Malwarebytes are by no means foolproof when it comes to stopping the sneaky stuff from getting in and there are so many sites out there now with phoney download links, it’s easy to pick something up.

Have you got an older video card you can swap in to check how that performs?

Might be worth downloading a decent stress test programme (as noted mindful of phoney links on utility redistribution sites!) and running that.

No problems with an RTX 3060 (12GB).
    I never exceed 65° even at 100%.
I play in ultra 1080p 60 fps consistently and even if 2 roads make me raise the map to 100% from time to time (semmerigbhan and cajon) the temperature is good, on average between 38° and 63° maximum!

I myself had a problem with an Nvidia driver once and I went back to the original driver to see if everything was working correctly.

You should do the same to see if it's a driver problem, completely delete your nvidia driver and reinstall version "516.94" (yes it's very old but to test your card it's good and this driver works on tsw4 without problem ) .

If your problem continues then I think there is a problem with your CG. Perhaps the thermal paste is bad or it is simply dying!

If it is under warranty I suggest you return it for repair or exchange!!

My RTX 4070 (12GB DDR6, Palit Microsystems) works at 60°C in TSW4 (DX12) - there's definitely a cooling problem with your card - which manufacturer btw?

I limited max frames per second in advanced settings. I saw the FPS peaking at 150 which was a waste of GPU cycles for me and generating waste heat. The lower the max FPS the lower the GPU usage and I found that would lead an overall more stable performance.

Do you have the latest GPU drivers ?
Is the fan curve for your GPU set up appropriately ?
Are all the case fans running ?
Have you set the game to max 60fps ?
Have you checked Task Manager to see what else your computer is running ?
Have you installed Malwarebytes and run a scan to check for unwanted code ?

Thank you for the suggestions. I have already tried most of the things suggested, as far as drivers, etc. I will try pulling the FPS limit down as the last thing.

I am probably at the point of disassembling the GPU cooler and re-pasting the heat sink. My case has really good airflow and I have custom fan curves for all fans…I run an overclocked CPU with a Noctua air cooler and have zero issues with that. It’s only with TSW4 that I have ever had a temp-related issue with my setup.
