I have really forgotten the nick of the guy who introduced me and others to the "easy" method of reengaging AFB after the LZB is released and you are in PZB mode (aka in motion), which is:

    1) Throttle to off
    2) As soon as you get back to PZB, drop AFB to 0 kmh, which SHOULD reset the AFB
    3) Put it in the value you need, lets say 90 kmh
    4) Now you can apply the throttle

Now, the usual method, which I believe also the DTG tutorial teaches us, is this (as far as I remember):
    1) Drop the throttle to off
    2) Set AFB to maximum value
    3) Set AFB to off (keyboard shortcut is CTRL+R)
    4) Set AFB back to on
    5) Set (drop) AFB to desired value, lets say 90 kmh
    6) Apply throttle
(Once you reengage the AFB, steps 5 and 6 are kinda interchangeable)

Now, I have been testing 1116 on Kassel Wurzburg, where, before the Wurzburg station, you have to do this AFB thing (or not, but I usually do), and I have noticed that the "easy" method doesnt work, cos I wasnt able to reapply throttle

Just to be sure, I tested all three Taurus variants on Munchen Augsburg... on DB and MRCE variants, the "easy" method works no problem, but on 1116 only the usual method works... not sure if the AFB/LZB works differently there, or they changed some scripts, no idea

Just so you know when you decide to take 1116 to highspeed routes in Free Roam - the EASY method doesnt work, you have to do it the usual way... it isnt such a big deal if you are experienced with this, but if you try the EASY method, you might be surprised you cant get back to speed :) so thats why I put up this thread :)

Feel free to further test this and bring your own results

All you need to do is to just set AFB lever to zero and back to new speed (Best using the mouse as it's quicker - Zusi3 has a keybind for AFB and Throttle reset). For three seconds after quitting LZB, the loco should not react to the lever setting to allow a smooth transition.

There should be no need to set the Throttle to off, this is optional.

Interesting. I hope the screen gets fixed soon. I've been using the "easy method" and I think seen it used in cab view vids too. now I'm wondering if my memory is that bad or if both are used or taught to drivers.

Zeroing Throttle just gives you time to adjust the AFB, as it will only be blind for 3 seconds. You can avoid quick and uncomfortable acceleration (and passenger complaints). (Though if you fail to set a new speed in time, brakes will kick in and try to match the target speed 0.)

You may also want to zero throttle if encountering a Vr0 or Vr2 immediately after LZB exit. This can be tricky, especially when encountering a Vr0 while still in the final LZB supervision, as PZB will be running in the background and already monitor your brake curve.

    ok, tri
ok, I tried it again, but the EASY method doesnt work on 1116, for some reason

The "usual" method is not related to LZB exit. It's for wanting to drive without AFB.

If the game forces you to do anything other than quickly zeroing AFB and selecting new speed as soon as the 85 (70/55) indicator lights up, it's not prototypical. Of course you have to take care of the speed limit yourself.

me too... thats why I was surprised at the end of KWG free roam run when I tried to apply power and it didn't unlock until I did it the usual and slower way

so I tested it, mostly on HMA, with all three variants of Taurus, from some station thats nearer Augsburg, so I could test it quicker... DB and MRCE responded as expected, I could apply power, but 1116 only worked if i set AFB to 230, turned it off and back on, and THEN applied power

I have been doing it the easier way since I learned it :)

right now I am on my way to grocery store for some late shopping, but will do a quick livestream when I get back home, so you guys see how it behaves - DB, MRCE and 1116 :)

haha managed to just join in time to see what happens with the 1116. weird that it works like that but I hope that and the screen gets fixed soon.

I mean, I have been using the method of just zeroing AFB and then back to certain value every time I did some LZB run, but here I was at the very end of KWG run with Taurus... did my thing and no throttle :D ... so I did the method taught in tutorial, and that worked, which is weird

as for throttle to off, usually when doing the LZB to PZB transition, there is a speed reduction, so I have to brake... and correct me if I am wrong, but braking usually works this way:

    1) apply brake (traction lock also gets into effect)
    2) if throttle is not OFF, then it locks
    3) you release the brakes
    4) it doesnt let you apply power again UNLESS you first get throttle to OFF, then on again as you need

What you are talking about is the method explained by Matt in the YouTube tutorial on the first ICE 3 (the 406) at the Koln-Aachen exit. If it weren't for the fact that the train, in LZB, drives itself, it would be undriveable without the distance bar from the next obstacle and the target speed. You only hear the alarms without seeing anything (other than the ENDE and the U). I don't use the HUD, so I don't have the distance bar replicated.

but since usually I have to brake somewhere around the point of transition, I still have to put it to off (since as far as I remember, once you apply brakes, even after you release them, the traction lock is still active cos of the brakes and you still have to get throttle to off, and only then you can apply power again)

only later I realized that the liveried one was MRCE... but later I also tried it with 182 DB which I decoupled from dostos... and result was the same - it worked as MRCE does

as for throttle thing - I tried applying train brakes, then electric brakes separately, then direct/driver's brake... and the only one that didnt lock the throttle was the driver's brake, others locked the throttle and I had to reset it to off and then on :)

sorry for splitting this, but I am reacting as I am getting partial results after more testing

you are right that you dont have to throttle off before doing that "AFB to zero, then back to VALUE" thing, provided you are not braking before that transition (which you dont have to lets say on Koln Aachen, direction Aachen)... then it starts applying power once you did that AFB thing

but if you have to use brakes (apart from direct brake) before that (aka you probably have throttle somewhere higher than zero, unless you throttle off before braking already), brakes lock the throttle... so after doing the AFB reset, you also have to throttle off and then back on... so it is advantageous in that case to just throttle off beforehand

Of course manual braking causes a traction lock that must be reset by zeroing throttle, but that's not related to LZB.

yep, you're right :) unfortunately they tend to put speed reductions right afterwards (happens when you pull in Wurzburg and also near Augsburg Hbf, etc.), so you need to engage the brakes as the AFB/LZB combo doesnt always manage to finish the job before that :) appreciate your feedback, it also made me refresh my knowledge of braking

and I could say that thanks to your feedback I developed a "new" method for myself - I mean, driver's/loco brake isnt very strong and I bet IRL shouldnt be used TOO MUCH, but I figured, if I started braking earlier to get into appropriate post-LZB speed, it wouldnt lock the throttle as train/e-brake would... Vectron has it the easiest, cos it has blended e-brake, which you can use - it locks throttle while in braking position, but once past 0, you go straight into throttle :)
