Modders unlocked the forbidden livery on GWE thus potentially scuppering any further collaboration with GWR possibly forever. I’m fairly certain that if it is at all possible to mod the new LIRR trains then somebody will do it and the only thing left is to see what the ramifications of that are.

Some of the selfishness and self entitlement that exists today is breath taking!

You would rather ruin things for everyone else just to get what you want.

I think the modding community is wonderful and there are mods that have very much enhanced TSW. I do hope they ignore people like you and listen to Matt instead, and don't release any mods to the LIRR trains which risk the wrath of those who have granted the licence and indeed destroy the hard work by DTG to get LIRR updated.

In all honesty it potentially impacts future products as well - e.g. if I do X to satisfy a license and know full well based on history that modders will certainly undo it or get around it - then I can't do X, and that means I potentially can't do the product in the first place. It's a huge grey area because technically what you folks are doing is your responsibility, but we do share some of that responsibility and ultimately if a license holder see's the very things they required to not happen being done then that can cause problems.

I'm fully in support of what modders can do, but with great power comes great responsibility.

All I'm asking for here is a bit of general broader awareness. If you want licenses in your products you need to be part of the community that works with the license holders and operators. If you don't, then that actually makes a lot of things a lot easier for us, but you then don't get any branded trains. Similarly, sending shirty emails to license holders about them not being in the game, or imposing restrictions (yes, you've been doing both) isn't helping matters either :)

    Your choice folks.

    Matt.

Fortunately there were no ramifications from that.

If it looks like a duck, etc., it's probably a duck. It doesn't need writing "duck" on the side. If the only ramification of not having a license is not having branding, then there are no realistic ramifications. I can't fathom how people prefer branding over realism, but if they do and a brand sells more than the substance - its quite sad.

    Not "fortunately." Naturally.

Yes, it is all a massive gray area, but in most of the jurisdictions a developer can't be held accountable for whatever a modder does, by anyone. The reason licensors try to solve this out of court is because they know, if it's taken to a court, they'll both lose and might end up paying legal fees of the both sides. That's why they act all tough and scary, imposing unenforceable or outright illegal limitations and requirements.

You're rather missing the point. It isn't litigation DTG fears; it's having the plug pulled on an existing license, and potential future licences scuppered.

It's already happened once: why do you think there is no GWR license and thus the GWE route can't be reworked?

I think the vast, vast majority of players would disagree with you there. And you say it's a small price to pay for realism- but how much realism could be expected in future if RR refuse DTG any access to study their rolling stock?

It isn't just about the license to have the brand in the game. Having good relations with TOC's could give DTG access to information or feedback from the companies which may improve realism. This means that keeping to the terms of a license agreement will probably give us more realism then ditching brand cooperation.

That is the exact reason why DTG should take step you prevent modding from being able with the game

The reason why DTG make a new route for the LIRR is to make up for the fact that LIRR wasn't the Best route in the old TSW. There were lack of everything the atc didn't properly work, there was no city view, lack of train that failed to represent nyc vibes and environment, there was no building at all, missing station, overall it was a complete mess. You can say its somewhat like the MNRR that we have in game, where there are lack service and no city vibes at all, which i do hope we will see a new extension to Connecticut with the M8 and do justice like what they did for this LIRR 2.0 :D;)

Sorry, nice try. The comment from Matt was about something completely unrelated.

Watch it, counsellor; most judges will call out that sort of attempted equivocation.

I mean to be fair, plenty of the operating companies refuse access to study their rolling stock now.
It seems quite rare for the US for DTG to get good access, pretty much just Metrolink and Amtrak I think?

If it wasn't branded trains I for one wouldn't be buying any more DLC.

Thats the main reason I enjoy the game.

And I'm sure there are alot of others that feel the same.

As for being spineless..that is not why we aren't willing to jeopordize what we have it called rational thinking and being an adult.

The type of thinking your going with is why people can't have nice things.

And I'm pretty sure DTG can make it so that mods no longer work, or even so that mods are not able to be shared. So ruining it for the rest of us who play by the rules.

It's not a fully brand new route built from the ground up completely. They only added a small extension to an existing route we already have. They took an old route and made improvements. It's not the same as the Suffragette Line which was a brand new route

I wonder if DTG are learning how to make (much) better routes, so the state-of-the-art is different from where it was just a few years ago. It might not necessarily be easy to fix an older route - which could have been close to state-of-the-art at the time - without some serious rewriting, which the economics can't justify releasing as a 'fix'.

They do seem to have pretty decent representations of their locos, so would make sense.

Oh please. DTG admitted in the stream that other than the extension, they added a bit of extra stuff to the base route but it is largely the same route as before which is obvious given the amount of recycled assets used. This was not built from the ground up.

It would also mean they would be open to their EMU's if/when DTG wants to redo Peninsula Corridor with them

I didn't suggest that it was built from the ground up. However, I also heard on the stream that DTG (claim to) have put a lot of work into it. So what if a large proportion of the assets have been reused? If they're ok, why redo them for the sake of making you feel better? There's a lot more to the game and its DLC than just the assets. As always, if you don't like it, don't buy it.

As always, me not having to buy something doesn't make it immune from criticism. Considering that the route was claimed to be built from the ground up, it is clear that isn't the case mostly and I don't think it's certainly unreasonable for something to be advertised as such to have more new assets especially at that price point. Most of the work went into the singaling, timetable, tod4, the timetable and extension. Most of the route is still fundamentally the same

Where did they claim this? the signalling was done from the ground up aswell as the m9 but not the route. It got touched up and extension added. they were open about that from day one. Did ya'll really expect everything to be different?

Well not 100% everything but it's not an unreasonable expectation to expect that route to look more different at that price point I'd argue

Not at all. The old route was dust and tumbleweeds; this one is as busy as London-Brighton

I’m speaking from experience now, it doesn’t feel the same at all. Feels like a completely fleshed out route.
It’s extremely busy and the signals work, the route actually feels alive like an NYC bound commuter route should. It’s not the snooze fest it was before and you’ll need to actually pay attention in the cab

I'm still wondering why there are still 2 tracks leading to Hicksville instead of 3? Laziness, time/money, license? The schedule was still rewritten, just like the signaling, so changing the tracks couldn't break what was written from scratch anyway.

It's most likely much more than just add another track which would have required a ton of time. Dtg had to create the brand new extension and improve the existing track and overhaul some stations.

Then why is timetable 2023? Let's put the modern timetable for Leeds - Manchester. Why not? If it works on LIRR then why it shouldn't work anywhere else?
Did flying catenary pillar also exist in real life? Is that why they weren’t fixed?

I provided a screenshot above to prove that when you press escape while performing any service on LIRR, the game shows year 2023. Laziness by DTG. Nothing new.

Yes obviously they are lazy, I am sure no time or effort goes into creating content. Perhaps the only laziness is evidenced in your comments, it is easy to bandy words like "lazy" around without actually thinking about what you are typing!
