The Westbahn is a 312 km long railway line from Vienna to Salzburg, which was built in the 19th century and is now one of the most important railway lines of Austria. It is also one of the few austrian routes which are fitted with ETCS as a safety system.
I am hoping for the 124 km long part between Linz and Salzburg to get included to TSW. Why? Similar to the recently released Semmeringbahn, it has a low and a high speed part. You can reach speeds as high as 230 kph, (if the train allows it) but also as low as 90 kph.
Talking about trains, what kind can we expect on this route? Many.

    1. The Railjet

[We all know what it looks like, no picture needed.]
Reach speeds up to 230 kph. Drive the route nonstop or with 4 stops along the way. The railjet alone provide 75 timetable services, which take between 14 minutes and 1 hour and 19 minutes.
    2. The Westbahn

This is a train I'm really looking forward to. The Stadler KISS can reach up to 200 kph and also has a nice amount of services between Linz and Salzburg. The 56 services take between 28 minutes and 1 hour and 14 minutes.
    3. ICs, ICEs and Nightjets
There are other long distance trains which offer a few extra services.
    - 6 IC services
    - 4 ICE services
    - 12 Nightjet services
    4. Regional trains
Most importantly is probably the S2 which goes all the way from Linz to Salzburg and further to Freilassing. This service reaches Salzburg 2 hours and 26 minutes after leaving Linz (including a 20 min break in Vöcklabruck + an 8 mins in Frankenmarkt). The rolling stock used for this is either the 4024, 4744/4746 or CityShuttle.
You can also do 17 minutes long journeys between Linz and Wels with the REX trains heading towards Passau and 49 minutes long journeys between Linz and Attnang-Puchheim with the REX trains heading the Salzkammergutbahn. Those services use the same rolling stock as the S2.
By including a to 3-4 km long branch to Friedburg, we would also be able to drive the whole R21 service and parts of the REX 21 from/to Braunau. The REX 21 would use Desiros (BR 642).

All in all there would be around 190 driveable regional trains.
    5. Freight
Maybe I can't tell you how many freight trains there are, but I know that it is a quite important route also for cargo. This would be a great chance to include the famous RoLa trains (Rollende Landstraße), since there is a RoLa-Terminal in Wels. Most of them leave to germany, but obviously not all of them and I doubt that freight timetables are realistic on any austrian/german TSW route. There are many other freight trains leaving from Wels Vbf and Linz Vbf aswell. We have all the locomotives which are used for the freight services on this route, so the RoLa rolling stock would be a nice addition.

In conclusion we have 343 driveable passenger services. Though in the bigger stations, especially Linz and Salzburg, you would see many AI trains and obviously don't forget about the freight trains.
I know that 124 or 128 kilometres are not nothing and most of them aren't even in tunnels, but most of the landscape is just fields and crops, so don't worry. Also, Salzburg Hbf is already in the game, including the yard on the east end of it, meaning that you can just copy and paste that. Since there aren't too many timetable services, the route shouldn't be a performance beast either.
As a new vehicle I'd be wishing for the Stadler KISS, but more people would be happy about the Railjet, as a passenger train. As a freight train, I'm suggesting the RoLa coaches.

Thank you, that's all I had to say.

Would really love to see that! Hopefully, DTG or another third party will see this and think about it! The Westbahn is some of the most important routes here in Austria and to have it in TSW would be very interesting!

I'd love to see a full München to Wien route to include the whole westbahn. but I'd say to split it at Salzburg and Linz is the most logical. 312 km is a bit much for a DTG route. unless RSSLO makes the westbahn in parts and sells a 15 euro or something combine DLC. maybe extensions to Passau or Bischofshofen could be considered. For the current state of the game. 124 km is a lot for DTG, expecially because it's not just high speed only and freight on a mainly tunnel and bridge route like KWG. but even if it takes 3 years to make. The whole westbahn would be an amazing experience with so much service variation. Especially when the rolling stock pool of Austria gets improved and we can get all the REX, S and Fernverkehr trains. I would honestly love to see some basegame reskins for coaches though. 1st class and 2nd class coaches only looks a bit off on EN/NJ trains. of course not all countries give licenses so there are some issues getting citynightline for example. but ÖBB NJ coaches are very distinct and would make driving them really fun. I was pretty dissapointed on KWG driving the NJ with just DB IC coaches. Thanks Hannah for fixing that with a livery mod

A nightjet coach dlc would be quite promising. There are many routes, which those could layer on, but I've already made a suggestion thread dedicated to that.

I agree, a nightjet is something we need, but would you rather have the new Nightjet or the old one?

Bring it on and I made this route suggestion in 2021. Freight trains should be ending at Vbf Wels Salzburg Gnigl and Wien Kledering.

I think the old one brings more opportunities, since the new one is barely used anywhere.

Quite difficult for a train to end in Vienna if the route ends in Linz ...

Totally agree! Can't wait for the nightjets to finally go 230 kph.

they have to fix that AFB reset procedure after releasing from LZB - prototypically, you would only move AFB to zero and then back to desired value, but atm 1116 works only when you have zero throttle, AFB to max, then AFB off, back on, and then you can adjust AFB value, which is not very practical and not how it should behave

To explain that Vbf Linz is east of Linz Hbf and then followed by Wien Kledering East of Wien Hbf. That way both Linz and Wien Hbf is for passengers only. To Salzburg from Linz Freight Linz Vbf to Salzburg Gnigl Vbf Passengers Linz Hbf to Salzburg Hbf
