I was bored and decided to have a look through my profile and found a feature where you can browse your posts in the order they were posted in. After much clicking, I found my first ever posting on this forum! https://forums.dovetailgames.com/threads/scotrail-train-anyone-know-class.57892/#post-530085 At the time, I was eager to not seem like a 'new account'. How paranoid I was back then! Eventually, I allowed myself to create a thread: https://forums.dovetailgames.com/threads/was-tsw3-delayed.58858/ Not much happened in it, but it did boost my confidence when it wasn't violently slammed. Now that I've finished reminiscing, I'd like to know what your first posts were, and how you felt about posting them.
I just tried having a look for this feature but I think I’ve posted a lot and it’s only showing 4 pages of posts each time, I would have to go back to before the TSW 2 release date ish to find the first and that’s a lot of clicks I don’t have the patience for I was about 20 pages back and still in 2024
Fair enough. It was annoying having to click 'show older messages' over and over again, but it was interesting to see glimpses of the past as I did so!
Initially my daughter set this account up for me and my grandson to share as he wasn't old enough to have his own and I said I'd do this with him. I remember the first post we made were in a suggestion thread: https://forums.dovetailgames.com/threads/steam-train-suggestions.48868/page-2#post-474965 Then I believe that I messed something up in the screenshot contest and so I didn't put anything on here for a month or two, just sitting with him when he were doing it, giving him bits of information and trying to maintain an understandable form of English, though I think he slipped in a few 'yeahs' in! These days he very rarely has owt to do with it apart from reading through making sure I haven't put anything rude! Then my first thread were a suggestion for the ELR from Boston to Grimsby & Skeggie which were received well enough, though sadly unlikely seeing as it's a steam route... The Perfect Steam Route? East Lincolnshire Line 1950s | Dovetail Games Forums
Wow, that is a brilliant story; a joint account with your grandson! It is interesting to see that your interactions were mainly with the Suggestions subforum. That is probably the place I use the least!
So, reading this piqued my curiosity. My first post here: https://forums.dovetailgames.com/threads/experiencing-a-crash.51610/page-7#post-630762 Was to report a crash. That crash is the reason I am here now, ironically.
That's brilliant! What a way to join the forum! I can imagine many share your story! Has that London Commuter crash been fixed?
I’ve only started 138 threads (mainly about bugs) so it was easy to get to my first thread, which was my first post too. September 2019, back in TSW2020 days. I was asking why the Class 47 on NTP had very little power. It was a PS4 only bug that had been around for a while and DTG were aware of it, and it subsequently took a lot of bad behaviour on the forum from a few people to actually get DTG to have a proper look at it and it did finally get fixed. It was a painful experience all round, not my posts specifically but getting the bug taken seriously and fixed. The final post in my thread was in May the following year while still waiting for a fix. There were other threads about it and for a while the issue was spam posted in almost every thread on the forum. I may have mentioned it a few times here and there myself at the time. I was inspired to buy TSW by the prospect of driving the Class 47 specifically so it was a major let down that I couldn’t enjoy it.
Turns out my first post was also my first thread. https://forums.dovetailgames.com/threads/a-couple-of-newbie-questions.41650/ Props to first responders Lamplight and solicitr for being helpful and welcoming.
A great read! I can't imagine what it must have been like to get that one bug fixed(!) It is also interesting to read the extremes that needed to be reached to get to a resolution. I feel like this is the best way to get started on a forum - asking for help. Fair play for not shying away from the fact that you were a new member (unlike me trying to act like I had years of experience). I find it amusing that they hadn't mentioned the scenario on the store page!
My 1st post was a TSC screenshot entry from August 2019. I used to be alot more optimistic back then, now I'm too pessimistic...
This Game Is Brilliant! OMG, Pipey was such a gullible poster. Shame on you - aeronautic237 - you made me re-read this! Praising the wonders of recently discovered TSW2. Knew nothing about bewitched patch and update curses. DTG's tap dance - 1 step forward, 2 steps backwards - was about to be discovered. Two years, lots of broken promises and 1800 posts later the enchantment is gone, disillusionment kicked in. This game should be a source of joy and entertainment. Only too often it is the source of anger that must be controlled. Something is fundamentally wrong here. I know, I know ...... " you don't have to play (buy) it, if you don't like it.™" blablabla. My purchase of a (used) PS3, later a PS4 and lastly a new PS5 was a child of the pandemic anyway. And it shure helped the whole family to get through these difficult times. But DTG needs to revise their capture of business ethics and morals. That also became clear.
Nice screenshot! I notice a similarity between it and your profile picture. I hadn't considered the possibility that people could join the forums through the screenshot contest! I too used to have an enthusiasm overload, but since Rush Hour (a fantastic release) I have naturally curbed it down a bit. Not much, but a bit. Ah, you were just like me - except I'm still full of enthusiasm. Perhaps it is blind optimism, but I like it that way. I too was rather embarrassed for myself reading some of my earlier posts (glad I'm not the only one), and the word 'Pipey' made me laugh. Despite my enthusiasm, I object to the argument of 'if you don't like it don't buy it'. Often, when buying a route, you are at least vaguely interested in it. It is only when you find dealbreaking bugs while playing it that you start regretting the purchase. Personally, I've never found any such bugs, so I consider myself very lucky!
It was this for me: https://forums.dovetailgames.com/threads/the-return-of-nec-new-york.27454/ Way too simplified, my suggestions are much more detailed now
Wow that is short! But it did get made (sort of) in the form of New York-Trenton, so well done! I am surprised no one mentioned its brevity back then. Normally people on the suggestions subforum who post short suggestions get told to make them more detailed. I also like that one of the suggestions in that thread was 'Boston to Providence would be a great section!'. Anthony actually predicted Rush Hour! It has been very interesting to see everyone's first posts! I have now read of many different ways that people joined the forums! I have also noted how many people made their first post an opening post - something I never had the courage to do! I look forward to reading many more first posts!
This was my very first posting on the forums from 2021 https://forums.dovetailgames.com/threads/lirr-babylon-branch.35929/ A portion of it is in game the Lynbrook to Hillside support facility via St Albans.
Used the "Introduce Yourself" sub on the TSC forums. I find it good practice when you are entering a community.
A poll in a first post! I would have never believed it! I imagined new members would only find the polls only after making a few posts. How wrong I was! I find it interesting that 5 people voted no. I wonder how it must feel to have your first post as a suggestion that actually (partially) made it into the game. I did see that (albeit, only after joining the forums) and imagined no one would actually use that. It is nice to see a first post that was from there. I didn't think it would work because I thought the veteran members would soon get bored of saying 'welcome' to new members every day, and would rarely check that subforum. I did also wonder why the other forums didn't have that subforum. Why do you find it good practice?
It helps to know a bit about who you're dealing with. I have no idea how old some of the forums members are, and sometimes it's good to adjust your replies depending on if you're talking to an overzealous young newbie reporting "bugs" that are none, or showing a little more forgiveness when talking to a 70-year old veteran....
Interesting! I try and stay forgiving to everyone (although have disappointingly failed recently), so never thought about how tone might change depending on who you speak to. I am now curious as to which category I fall under, but that's probably too much.
My first post was one bug report about the Javelin at Gravesend station in TSW2. Remember i was unable to depart Gravesend to Strood and i've found my fault on power change at Ebbsfleet: forgot to press DC for third rail and i was able to depart Ebbsfleet on AC mode to Gravesend and not moved again due to power mode
These are the moments I would look back on with joy. Way back when we had so much to learn - every run taught us something new! I think I made that mistake once as well! Certainly it was a common one to make - it is surprising how far you can get without changing power modes!
I kinda had the same feeling with being paranoid about being a new account. My first post was this: https://forums.dovetailgames.com/th...oadmap-december-2023.77045/page-3#post-768427 I wanted to say something about Salzburg-Rosenheim
Ah, so it wasn't just me! Fair play having your first post in a thread as big as the roadmap article thread, though!
https://forums.dovetailgames.com/threads/ayrshire-coast-line-ayr-glasgow-central-tsw4.54722/ Here's my first ever post. A suggestion thread for my local line.
Nice to see that you have been pushing Scottish content since day 1! I think I've ridden on that line once. I think I went to Paisley Gilmore Street to get to Glasgow Airport - I still have the ticket here somewhere...
