I know earning points isn't a priority for some, but I was curious to see how others avoid getting points penalties for speeding in LIRR 2. With safety system compulsory it's very hard to know in advance if/when speed reductions are going to appear on the ADU - meaning that without any 'traditional' warning the speed limit can reduce by a significant amount. This means that while the safety systems require you to begin braking within a few seconds and acknowledge the alert (thanks, training centre!), I can avoid penalty braking from the train itself... but I still get a big red number in the score at the end of the run. I am aware that there are ways to predict speed changes by monitoring track signs and signalling, and I'm yet to fully learn all that - but is that in itself enough to prevent points reduction?
If so, that would make it unique in being the only DLC that you cannot avoid a negative points score by using the HUD alone?
Ah, understood - thanks. I know this is a unique DLC from this perspective, so just wasn't sure if it was working as intended or an issue
I had noticed the same thing. I thought it was a bit ridiculous that I got speeding penalties just in the training. Not that it's a big deal to me, I rarely even care about the points. I just came to see if this was a known issue, or learn how to avoid them, so thanks for the info.
is more about route knowledge. Once you get familiarize with the cab drops you will be really good at anticipating the cab drops which will reduced the force brakes. Brandon will be on a stream and he will go over all this in more detail https://www.youtube.com/live/bxc2HyVLblo?si=b6wnpIYbwXNu8Sj3
Many drops can be predicted, but not all. The reason for this is if you are following a train or have some sort of unexpected signal ahead that would slow you down sooner than normal.
So I guess my question is more about how points are deducted - if it's not possible to avoid speeding even with excellent route knowledge, can the points system be adjusted to take this into account? I would say, this isn't a big issue for me and I don't want to give the impression it's game-changing or anything. Just something I noticed and wasn't sure if I was reading the situation correctly or not. It's not a slight on the quality of the DLC, which I think is excellent.
A core change was made a few months ago that made it so the scoring system in the game looked at your speed relative to cab signal speed if you had safety systems on. It never used to be that way, and in my opinion should be reverted back. On a route where you can toggle the safety systems on/off (i.e. Trenton), it leads to situations like this: [Driving along with clear signal at 80mph] "Driving under speed limit +30" "Driving under speed limit +30" [Cab signal drops to 45mph] "Driving significantly above speed limit" [Toggles ACSES off] "Driving under speed limit +30" The current implementation is wacky. The system used to work correctly: the cab signal would drop, and you could leave safety systems on, comply with the drop by applying suppression brakes and acknowledging, but you would continue to accumulate full speed limit points unless/until the line speed limit changed.
