Just wondering . . . When will TSC2024 be released ? Will there be an autumn release before the Holidays ? Will it be next spring ? . . . or . . . ? What is your guestimate. please share your insight. I know I know, naming convention / yearly releases , bring it on
There won't be a TSC 20xx When DTG changed from having TS[year] to just TSC they said it would not have a yearly suffix Its not like you are playing TSC 2023. I suspect there might be a yearly package of routes but as they have not released much this year then maybe not?
I suspect that the only updates in the near future would be for core functionality and feature improvements.
> I suspect that the only updates in the near future > would be for core functionality and feature improvements. Sounds great ! The sooner the better. TSC2023 is great, but I love getting new toys / improvements ! But surely they will realease something before the Holidays to generat some Holiday sales ?!? > Its not like you are playing TSC 2023. Well, I think we all are
It'd be nice, but I wouldn't get your hopes up - the next phase of the core rebuild is perhaps the meatiest part. What we were given up to yet was just tidying in preparation for the work.
I think the core updates/upgrades will come as and when they are ready, by that I mean they won't be tied to a specific time of year release like the TS20XX yearly 3 routes and a new date suffix number added were. I do think they may keep the yearly three routes bundle release though as that is an obvious pre-Christmas ("Holidays" to those that can't spell tyres properly) sales push and you can't blame them for that as that's just good business practice. There are some (surprisingly not as many as I thought there'd be if I'm honest) that won't/can't/refuse to get past the TSC20xx thing but that's ok it's not overly important they get it and it'll probably eventually dawn on them after a few years of no date suffix added to TSC that "hey did you guys know there's no date suffix to TSC now". Tl;Dr No date suffix at the end of TSC title that ended with TS2022 when the title was re-branded to the all encompassing Train Simulator Classic (TSC to us)
The current package (bundle) was added on 2023-04-27, probably will take a wee while until the next pack. https://steamdb.info/sub/859676/history/

Cash Grab! Thats only what i have in mind now.... This game is in performance and graphics so unbelievable bad. I have a high end gaming pc and this game runs with around 15/20 fps in 60% of the most places. So if they doesn't fix this part of problems, like TAA and proper FPS for me its a absolute NO! The recent updates are nothing special and do nothing in performance at all!
100% agree Give us TAA and update this game to modern systems its horrible for my eyes !!! these flicker !! without reshade and TAA filter i couldnt play no more. and please let the game use the resources we have on our modern systems. cheers
A subscription model is actually quite an interesting innovation if it works out as a sort of "try before you buy" deal.
Not a cash grab and not needed to say no, you will get TSC2024 for free, downloads automatically. Has been like that for years. You only have to pay if you want TSC2024 complete with the mentioned routes or the special editions with additional routes.
Fair enough but there is nothing new! But correct me if i'm wrong what is changed since 2021 in a form of routes? They sell every year the same routes for a higher price? So the updates are free but the whole dlcs and monthly paid model are nothing more than a cash grab! If you make the game with proper TAA and a Huge graphics improvement than i say directly thats a good product but the game is far, far, far away from this point atm!
You do realize you have to want TS to make a very good profit. That is the key to survival for the game and the key to more train gaming fun for us all.
It's my opinion and you don't need agree with me! If you like to watch a lot of flicker and low fps its fine! I will not stop you from this game Its fine and everyone has different needs and happyness
My brain is old, not young like yours. I do not see any flicker over 50 FPS, so I have set the limit to 60 FPS and have lots of fun.
So go back to TSW with all the stuff you can not change. And you mentioned Cash Grab - Will TSW 5 be free when it comes out
So there is one little difference every TSW paid update has new stuff and not re used products and for the same price. So big difference there...
Sorry ive been very polite and he is free to have fun with this game.... And dind't attack anybody here... You didn't understand my answer there i guess...
the point is that in case of antialiasing the did nothing since 2009 and when u want to sell a product and specially want to offer some stunning alpine views^^ than u have to deliver its competition ! look what scs did with ets 2 and ats and they still deliver for the people. that all is not mentioned to talk bad about DTG its only a fair opinion in the hope they can do something. cheers
Because he is a known troublemaker on several forums... he tells all the TSC players not to criticise TSW, but at the same time he keeps coming to the TSC forums and braggs about how superior TSW is and starts arguments.
I think this may be very interesting. I have reviewed all of the content being made available out of the gate. I already have all of this DLC. What IS interesting is that they claim that subscribing to the new model will have new content being made available. Guess we will need to see what is in scope. Mr X: I see you are openly suggesting TSW is a better product. There are other threads to discuss this: https://forums.dovetailgames.com/threads/i-keep-coming-back-to-tsc.79679/#post-810707 Respectfully
May i ask you before you ask such things where you have read that i say that TSW better is than TSC? Let me be clear both games are perfectly fine and they are 2 separate games with small similarities. The only thing that i have written that there are huge differente in graphics.... So nothing that says about 2 games and which is better?!
Apologies if I misunderstood you. I saw reference to flicker etc and thought that you might like to contribute in the other topic rather than the one discussing TSC 2024. Respectfully
Fair enough thanks for youre honest reply.... Better is that this kind of written will be deleted by mods but after a report there is no response
It is good to see that TSC is still alive and effort is put into updating the core! Kilt46 has a good point! A subscription model without new content is useless. So new content will sure be coming whether it is DTG or third party.
I don't agree. I can see plenty of people who'd want to rent existing content. Either because they only want it short term, or to try before buying.
I wonder how much this decision to have a subscription model is being driven by Focus Entertainment? Now while I’m quite laid back so long as they leave existing customers and owners alone, nevertheless there is a slight niggle of concern that once established they will push the concept further. Look no further than N3V and Trainz where those who use the subscription model(s) get a newer version and features of TRS22 than those who opted to purchase the traditional version. What if TS2024 subscription does eventually become the only way to get updates? Tinfoil hat maybe, but this is business we are dealing with here and DTG are not necessarily the most ethical of companies (look no further than the promised but never delivered features and bug fixes for TSW). Well at the end of the day, so long as they leave existing TSC (and TSW) as is I probably have enough content to see me to the point at which I shuffle off this mortal coil. That’s before the endless, emergent gameplay that Run 8 offers and the fun I can have in ATS, ETS2 and Snowrunner.
Fair. But if you only use Steam DLC it might be cheaper to have a subscription in the long term as long as new content is added.
Maybe a more interesting question is whether DTG will have a subscription model for TSW as well? If I had to choose which one to subscribe to????? Maybe get the Mega Subscription Bundle and get fishing and Catan as well - Lol
I think people are confusing the ATS Subscription Model with the DTG version. With the DTG version it is aimed at people who do not own TSC and might wish to give it a try. So although the content is not new, to the regular players, it is to anyone who has not played the game before. The ATS version is for people who already have TSC and understand how the game works.
Combined with a couple other points, my understanding is that they'll keep rotating content in the sub, on top of some common core. So for example, December is Donner Pass, because winter, doh. Then January Köln-Koblenz, because it's also winter and a different area. For February, some UK stuff. Casual assumption that they'll actually curate, i.e. make conscious choices. Of course they could simply include a winter pack and have all three, or maybe offer loco DLC The announced sub price is relatively steep - saving 3 months would buy you the base game, or every 2 months you could afford a route and a train (assuming the usual discounts). One upside I can see is the absence of shifting through 1000 DLC during the first month of playing. The biggest downside - aside from dependencies - is whether it can reach people with specific interests. The scheme sounds like a bit of anti-abuse and anti-trouble. I used to say that I play one DLC per a month, figured it's more like 1.5, so the sub is the equivalent of a permanent 30-50% discount and so I could play whatever. "Abuse" would be using the sub to gorge content whereas "trouble" is that simply handing out the entire catalogue would cause struggle - disk space, slogging menus...
Seems no-one is really getting in to the details of the core update . . so here we go . . . I hope I got it right . . . This is nothing new for players who have been running the various Public Betas, but might be new, and perhaps even interesting, for players who did not. Below stuff has been Publicly Beta tested after the latest Core Update v75.8a and therefore MIGHT make it in to TSC2024 .... Public Beta Build 77.1a We have completed work to upgrade several tools to 64-bit and to support 64-bit addressing. 64-bit binaries have been added for the Blueprint Editor 2 and associated command line tools ConvertToGEO, ConvertToTG and Serz. These 64-bit tools have a “64” suffix to distinguish them from the 32-bit versions. The 64-bit Blueprint Editor 2 is contained within a Tools/x64 subfolder. These tools are currently considered experimental and feedback on their functionality is requested. Note that on first run of the 64-bit Blueprint Editor, the user should set the RailWorks Folder correctly by using the Tools > Options menu item and restarting the app. These tools are designed to be run in the Tools/x64 folder and should not be copied into a different location, nor should the Schema be copied into this x64 folder. Implemented a fix for the 64-bit build failing to start with some Intel GPUs on Windows 11. This could cause the application to silently fail before the splash screen. By default, PhysX is now initialised using software rather than hardware. The hardware initialisation could cause a crash on non-CUDA GPUs. Implemented a fix for SilverLining stars not being visible at night time. In some cases this bug could result in SilverLining sky being replaced by the default sky (although SilverLining precipitation would still work). The magnitude for stars should be adjustable by editing the SilverLining config file if required. Increased the size of the heap using for loading geometry in 64-bit mode from 1 GB to 2 GB to stop some out of memory errors on the streaming heap. Fix for a situation where a D3D "Device Not Reset" error can occur without first getting a "Device Lost" error. This should fix the remaining D3D crashes, such as those on alt-tab switching. The FPS limit now defaults to 60fps (as opposed to 30fps). This limit is now enforced during menus and pause screens in all cases (no matter what command line option is used) to reduce uncapped frame rates and excessive CPU usage whilst browsing the menus, especially with some Ryzen CPUs. Fast sound update optimisations have been implemented but are disabled by default due to triggering failures. These changes spread updates to sounds over multiple frames, but could cause problems with delayed sound triggering. This can be accessed by using the command line "-FastSoundUpdate" with an optional value for the update factor, e.g. "-FastSoundUpdate=10" (the default when enabled). A new command line option "-ShowScriptTiming" has been added to aid developers when optimising their Lua scripts. This renders an overlay on screen showing all the Lua scripts that are being called, the total number of calls, and the total time spent in them. A new command line option "-ShowAverageTiming" (which must be used in conjunction with ShowScriptTiming) has been added. This provides additional information - namely the mean and medium time spent in each script. This can be used to determine if the scripts are always performing poorly or if there are outliers. For example, an Engine script may be called 50 times, but one of those calls may take significantly more than the others (i.e. for the player loco vs AI locos). A new log filter has been added - "Script Performance". When enabled this will provide performance hints via logmate. Currently, this only has one warning - when a script tries to set a value to the same value it already has (e.g. via SetControlValue). In some situations, this Lua call can have a huge performance hit, because the text-based lookup can be very slow. In general, scripts should only set values that they know have changed. Note that GetControlValue has a similar performance penalty, so using that followed by a SetControlValue will have worse performance overall. Instead, scripts should track these values themselves using internal Lua variables wherever possible to minimise these calls. An example might be a loco script that sets headlights and rear lights every frame, rather than when the loco changes direction. With some scripts this filter can cause a huge amount of extra output to Logmate, so a new filter was added rather than using an existing one. Developers should be aware of this when using the "All" filter. Public Beta Build 76.5a Reverted Dispatcher change that was intended to make node deletion on pathing failure more robust, but instead could make it more unstable. Fixed an STL assert failure in Debug build (this could also cause a crash in release builds) - tunnel iterators were being used after deletion when rendering 2D map. Removed assert in Landscape texture that causes a crash/break in Debug builds. Fix for crash in loading of Lingbao to Mianchi Scenario 3 (and other scenarios that include reversing sections). Caused by fix to prevent decrementing a stack pointer when at the beginning of the stack. Previous fix was to change loop check, new fix is a special flag to prevent and recover. Added command line option "-DisableSilverLining" to fully disable Silver Lining to aid debugging the graphics device lost crashes on alt-tab and screen sleep. Updated to Silver Lining 6.42 to fix D3D device lost error on screen sleep (and potentially others) Public Beta Build 76.3a We've fundamentally fixed the last remaining issues relating to how TS allocates memory. Support for 64-bit addressing in all custom heaps in the x64 build. Fix for assert in STL when decrementing an iterator at the beginning of a list. More reliable releasing of landscape textures. New launcher app to fix launching the same build (x32/x64/Dx12) on graphical or resolution change. Workaround for screen resolution drop down in settings dialogue running off screen - added an offset to move dropdown vertically to remain on screen. Mitigation for serialisation crash during texture load. The most common crash in build v75.6a.x64 Code to prevent crash from the dispatcher upon freeing up the same node twice on routing failure. Added check for -1 pointer in ScriptGetConsistSpeed. Fix for crash in headlight destructor (5th most common crash in v75.8a.x64). Potential fix for a crash caused by a ray cast calculation going off the end of a vertex buffer, this was more common in scenario editing mode than drive. Mitigation for various crashes due to null pointers or use of uninitialized variables in Delta serialisation, Scenario Editor consist placement, loft building. Initialisation of the "Current Consist" to zero/null on startup so as to mitigate crash during signal script initialisation accessing current consist when it is undefined. Additional logging to aid debugging D3D error. But lets hope there will be many more improvements and tweaks.
For those of you complaining about the graphics get a decent monitor with a higher refresh rate and also supports HDR. I run this on a Viewsonic 27/28 gaming monitor at a 180Hz refresh rate with HDR on. Windows 11 and maybe 10 have an option where you can turn on auto HDR which improves the graphics on older games that don't support HDR. This is Feather River Canyon Enhanced recorded in HDR. Whether you see the difference on an ordinary monitor I don't know. Railworks 2024 02 28 10 39 41 01 (youtube.com) I also use RW Enhancer 2.
The attitude of a cash grab is a flawed one. Yes, there are no new routes. Yes, there are performance issues. But let’s remember that Steve Dark has been updating us on performance improvements, and I suspect the featured routes in some cases are ones that may have been targeted for improvements. Also, you get five routes, and I suspect the package would be heavily discounted for things you already own. in my case, I actually do own all of the routes. So if it would be $30 for 15 new scenarios…hard pass. I would consider that a very bad sales setup. Even at 75% off.
Well, there's always new routes, just not from DTG themselves who are making TSW content. RSSLO just released Wien - Payerbach for TSC.
I recall that there was plans at one point for improvements to the customisation of the GUI for Quick Drive consists, so you could organise your collection a bit easier. Was that plan dropped along the way after the sheer amount of back-end work that needed doing was uncovered?
I'm referring not to third party, but to first party. There are no new first party routes, and they don't have the agreement to bundle third party routes, which eats into the third party profits in a way they aren't planning for. So they can't bundle any new routes. Though I think I saw Suburban Glasgow is in this one? Must have an agreement with Rivet.
