Next you'll be making some "What If?" Loadhaul liveries steam locos. (You'd need sunglasses to view those) PS - Did you see my message last week about Scenario Formations? If you'd like anything in particular then just give me a shout.
Strategic Reserve Black 5s in LoadHaul! Now there's a thought. I'm OK for scenario formations, David, but thanks for the offer. Now, after I've finished LoadHaul, there's always Mainline Blue...
A quick addition. 37697 in the interim LoadHaul livery, for locos with good paintjobs. As far as I know, only 60050 received this livery variation, (edit: also 60070) but I wanted to see what it would have looked like on a 37, and it gives me 3 LoadHaul 37s to go on my LoadHaul Iron Ore train!
Oh I really like that look. I think the two tone grey and logo would work well on the CL08 and JNAs too.
Crazy talk from someone I will only identify as "David" has resulted in this fine locomotive. Once again, it has to be said: "LoadHaul looks GREAT on everything!!!"
The 'WHAT IF...' files have been enlarge too. This time: What if... LoadHaul had ventured into the Passenger side of the railways? They would have had to acquire suitable locos and stock, so stored Class 47/4s and MK2 stock were overhauled and prepared. LoadHaul did not want to operate under the LoadHaul name, as that was synonymous with Freight, so LoadHaul Express Railways was chosen, more simply known as LHER. Livery was a variation of the existing LoadHaul Black and Orange, but with the colours reversed and the orange toned down. Bodyside stripes were also added to break up the orange. LoadHaul decided to dispose of the First Class moniker and chose to rename their premier service as 'Business Class', indicated on the coaches by a letter 'B' on the doors. (someone forgot to remove the old BR 1st Class stickers from inside the coaches though!)
The Class 47/4s included some of the Gateshead 'Generators' and so 47402 was reunited with its 'Gateshead' nameplates and 47408 with its 'Finsbury Park' nameplates
The curved lining is done with the quarter circle shapes. I add the quarter circle in the appropriate colour Then shrink it and fit it to the outside edge of the lining: Clone the shape; I've coloured it grey rather than black so you can see the placement: Shrink it down and locate it to match the inner edge of the lining: Re-colour it to the background colour. You will notice that the incremental nature of the tools do not always allow precise alignment, so you may have to tweak the fit, or add additional layers to hide the overlap. Other curves are available in the Livery Editor, but you may have to get inventive.
In a small distraction from LoadHaul, I thought it might be interesting to follow the livery changes for one particular locomotive. BR Brush Type 4 D1500 was the loco I have chosen. Up to now I have found 12 livery variants with photo evidence. I am unsure of one additional variant which I cannot find photo proof for, but I'm hoping it will pop up in my searches. (The variant is BR Blue, TOPS number 47401 with black headcode dominos.) The variants will be uploaded by date, starting with #1 in BR 2-tone Green with small yellow panels, as outshopped from Falcon Works in 1962. #2 is 1969 with full yellow ends and #3 is BR Blue, with number 1500. I've used the NTP model for this project. Although the WSR version has alpha-numeric headcodes which is correct up until at least 1977, it also has a headlight which is not right, so I've chosen to have wrong headcodes rather than a headlight. #1 D1500 in 1962 #2 D1500 in 1969
3 more up for D1500 / 47401. This time is the turn of the newly renumbered D1500, now 47401 under the TOPS system (Why not 47001, you may ask? Because D1500 was fitted with ETH from new and as such was placed under the 47/4 sub class [for ETH fitted locos] not the 47/0, which precluded ETH fitted locos.) 47401 as renumbered in Nov 1973 - Note, this loco retained alpha-numeric headcodes until at least 1978, but this cannot be replicated with NTP Class 47. 47401 in 1979, after receiving yellow headcode panels
Large Logo! 47401 in 1986. No orange cantrail stripe yet... One year later (1987) and cantrail stripe added. Probably my favourite livery (even above LoadHaul!)
Just one more year - 1988 - and the nameplate was gone as 47401 was transferred to Immingham TMD for freight duties. I cannot believe she was in her prime for so short a time!
Immingham TMD soon decided to spruce up their 'celebrity', and the loco first appeared back in BR Blue but with large logo and D1500 numbers in 1990 In May 1991, 47401 received new nameplates, first unofficially, but then recognised officially - "Star of the East"
Just 2 months later, in Jun 1991 and 47401 was transformed yet again - this time back into 2-Tone Green livery, 1990s style. The loco retained the "Star of the East" nameplates too.
47401 was withdrawn in July 1992. Preservation came soon after and the loco has been based at Swanwick, Midland Railway Centre since. Over the years the loco has received a number of livery variations, either BR Blue or BR Large Logo Blue. Most have been repeats of what went before, but 2 variations were 'unique'. The first, around 1994, was Large Logo livery, no cantrail stripe and no nameplate. The second was also Large Logo, with orange cantrail stripe, 'North Eastern' nameplates and No.2 end headcode panel in black. This concludes my little venture into the world of one loco - D1500 / 47401. I hope you enjoyed it and found a livery you liked.
Great exercise Dave. Well done. You should do one of those screenshots of every loco placed strategically around a turntable.
I'm sure I've seen some screenshots of some route with a turntable and 20 locos around it? But I can't remember if it was an American or European route. I'm not near my system at the moment but does Thornaby have modelled turntable?
It'll have to be on a British route as I don't have anything else. I'll take a look at Thornaby, but I don't think it has. The alternative is a yard full of locos in Free Roam.
Looking through my pics of Tilcon trains and I found one that I'd forgotten about. It shows the Tilcon at the unloading facility in Hull on one of the very early uses of the new JGA Hoppers in March 1995. By this time, Class 60s had taken over from pairs of Class 37s a few years earlier, my first sighting of one being in June 1992, but this day brought something unusual, perhaps unique, to Hull. On the new wagons were 2x 37/7s. These locos are 37886 in FM and 37883 in FP, the only time I saw 37/7s in Hull and possibly the only time 37/7s were on the Tilcon. I have uploaded these from TSW3 for use in TSW4 along with a repainted HOA Aggregates wagon in Tilcon livery. Although of a different design, it still looks better than the JUAs. Can't use the hoppers in Formation Designer though!
Meanwhile... A suggestion for a Freight 3-Tone LoadHaul liveried Class 08 has resulted in this 'What-If...' 08253 of Botanic Gardens (BG)
Also uploaded - Brush Type 4s (Class 47s) in pink and blue primer. There is some evidence that one or two escaped either Falcon Works or Crewe Works in primer livery for testing.
A turntable i’d suggest (for one loco pictures) is the one on LPC at Liverpool Lime Street, it’s right by the station so you could add your other liveries ‘pulling’ trains ( i say ‘pulling’ but you could just put them static)
I can't get Class 47s around that one - too long! I tried to get some LoadHaul wagons around it, but they wouldn't show in-game.
I'm really surprised that no-one wants the pink primer Brush Type 4! The first upload I've had with (so-far) no takers. This is a genuine livery folks, pics are out there - albeit few and far between! Don't miss out!!!
Tidying up the storage cupboard I found a few liveries I had forgotten about. 40009 - the last vacuum-braked only example - in BR Blue
97407 - the former 40012 'AUREOL' in its departmental days: 97408 - 40118 - for the Crewe Station rebuilding program
37245 in generic BR Blue while allocated to Tinsley TMD in the early 1980s 37673 in Railfreight General livery - for the introduction of Freight Sectors. The loco never ran with these logos and received Freight Distribution decals before entering service.
I put the word "pink" in the search bar and it came up on I think the second page. It doesn't help either that on mobile phones, when you go on someone's page to see their downloads it only shows you a handful of selections instead of the whole lot.
A few more from my 'forgotten' bin: The Centre Headcode Class 40 has proved to be bitter-sweet. Easy to livery, but hard to use in-game. It does not appear in Scenario Designer, which is a pain. 40060, which was one of Haymarket's allocation to gain centre headcodes: 40063, another of Haymarket's fleet:
Thanks David, and no, no pink 40! I'm not sure what colour their undercoat was. Grey? Only ever seen black & white pics and not sure any escaped the Works in undercoat.
A recent visit to the Dean Forest Railway has given me some pics of stock for repainting. First up is their resident Class 08 shunter D3937 (08769) in faded BR Green livery.
Three more Dean Forest Railway items uploaded. First is a representation of one of their Class 108 DMUs, using the TVL Class 101 as a base. This comprises DMBS E50619 + TSL 59387 + DMCL M51566 in faded early BR Green livery with speed whiskers. BR 5-plank wagon B497619 in BR Bauxite livery And GW 5-plank wagon in 'Trafalgar' Black livery. Listed as GW No. 61015 by the DFR, I have numbered it as No. 53 of the Trafalgar Colliery fleet
